Picked up my stills camera a couple years ago and fell back in love with filming! Wish I had the time to get out more like I used to when we were kids.
Shot on Panasonic mirrorless's with Canon 8-15mm fish.

[close]
Looks good, what frame rate did you film with an export out to?

This project was all over the place as I was trying to find a camera setup that I liked.. multiple different panasonic cameras models, some shot in raw with a blackmagic video assist, even a couple clips with a blackmagic ursa 4.6k.

Frame rates were 24, 30, 50, and 60, final export was 24.

Future projects i’ll probably shoot 60 and deliver in 30!

Yo,
"Long time lurker first time poster" as they say, I've been following this thread for a minute but wasn't signed up to Slap until now.

Some really sick setups and results on here!

Just wanted to share some skatepark tests I've done with the newly acquired GH5, and the trusty Meike 3.5

All shot 50p 4k anamorphic + extra tele conversion, so no crop in post. Unfortunately I'm not happy with the chosen shutter speed and it looks jittery when exported at 25p, so I exported at 50p for this one.

I also want to shout out a budget option that never gets mentioned: the GH3. I probably would have kept it if I hadn't had a good GH5 deal come up. I don't really care for 4k, the result is even less than 1080p as I have to crop to 115% in post with the Meike 3.5, but for a budget option, like for homie videos, honestly I think the results are pretty good. Judge by yourself, the video below is all GH3.

has anyone figured out how to record gh4 4k photo mode with audio? the aspect ratio is different than anamorphic mode or any of the crops.
edit: i might be wrong and it just seems like its a slightly tighter crop.

This looks sick. Some of these fisheye shots' colors really look lovely, the 3CCD-like golden highlight glow, I didn't think AF100 looked this nice!

This one is lovely. I'm a huge fan of videos/films that embrace multiple distinct cameras and formats, each with their own look, and maintain those distinctions rather than trying to make everything homogenous. A 4K master finally allows all of the IQ subtleties in everything from Hi-8 to HD to cDNG to shine. Looking forward to the full-length.

On the 16mm, are those sprocket holes really from the scan/overscan or is that an effect?

Hey thanks dude! Yeah I agree, let them be what they are, don't force em to be what they never were never meant to be! Also yes, the 16mm is the genuine sprocket holes. No overlays or effects here!

It is a PSD so if you want to resize/position the file in Photoshop you can. Just make sure you are covering up any vignetting from your previous lens (even the blue fuzzy bits around it) so it looks clean.

Not quite 4:3, but working on a new video in 8:5/16:10. Slightly narrower than 16:9, but not quite the familiar 4:3, I find it's a pretty nice middle ground and like trying to do something different for each video I make.

Low Impact – A Kaffee Skateboards Video (2025)
Filmed entirely in Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Shot in 4:3 HD

What’s up everyone,

Just wanted to drop a video we recently wrapped up:
👉 Low Impact – A Kaffee Skateboards Video (2025)

It’s 35 minutes of raw, honest street skating – all filmed over two years in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Frankfurt is a strange city – a weird mix of ghetto corners, rich kids, and everything in between. But most importantly, it’s full of underground energy and heart.
This one’s for the locals – young, old, rusty, and ridiculously motivated.

It’s about skating despite bad backs, creaky knees, and aging hips. Keeping the fire alive, even when it hurts.
Real street skating, real people, low expectations – high impact.

---

Filming Setup (HD in 4:3):

The whole thing was edited in 4:3 (1440x1080) in DaVinci Resolve, with the timeline set to Crop to Fit Image.
We used a few different cameras throughout the project:

Fisheye:

Panasonic LUMIX GH5 with Viltrox Speedbooster + Samyang 8mm fisheye

Later switched to a Meike 3.5mm fisheye, which I ended up loving

GH5/Meike fisheye workflow:
I shoot in anamorphic mode at 4K 60fps, then enable the external teleconverter. This reduces the vignette and gives me that VX-style full-frame fisheye look straight out of camera – no zooming needed in post. Pretty happy with the results.

Long Lens:

Canon HF G26 (PAL) – similar to the NTSC Canon HF G21
Shoots in 16:9 like most camcorders

Some B-Roll was shot with a Sony Digital8 TRV camcorder

Recently picked up a Canon XF100 – stoked to try it out.
It has a built-in 4:3 frame overlay on the screen, which is super helpful when composing for 4:3 timelines. Still, the GH5 remains my favorite setup for fisheye.

Would love to hear what you all think.
Always down to talk gear or 4:3 workflow stuff.

Much love from Frankfurt 🖤

Good filming and Editing. I don‘t know about the footage of this guy Steffen. I think he can do better. He skates a bit slow. Not his best work.

Wanted to share a little 4:3 edit I made of a recent trip to Montana with the boys:

Shot on a Panasonic HC-x920 and Opteka 37mm fisheye, I acquired it right before the trip and am as amateur as they come so I just left all the settings on auto. Next project is a full length, so any tips on camera settings, filming, editing are all welcome.

Also…. HUGE HUGE shoutout to my man @cossrooper for the hooking it up with the camera, can’t thank you enough dude!!

I suggest putting the woodenmic on the camera's hot shoe.
less chance for it to get hit, and you can put light on the handle's hot shoe when needed

Are you shooting in 16:9 then cropping? I recently got the same setup, but it seems I can only shoot native 4:3 in SD. What am I missing?

Exactly that, I film everything in camera 720p at 60fps 16:9
In the camera settings there is the option to put a 4:3 overlay on the lcd display to get a good idea of where the crop will be. Then I just drop all the footage into a 4:3 timeline

Awesome, thank you! I didn't know about the 4:3 overlay, so I'll give that a try. The footage looks great.

GH5 + Meike 3.5
[close]

Looks so good. An actual improvement over the VX1K/Mk1, which the HPVX/Xtreme never was. Looks fast despite being 50p. Looks smooth because it's 50p. And because you shot it well. Corners don't wobble. Nary a cut off head. The whip camera moves don't make a person sick. You did it. This should be the new standard. Better still GH5 bodies are like $€400 and that fisheye is like $€150. Simply sick.

I know this is old, but is it just me or is this meike footage way sharper and cleaner looking than other examples in this thread? im pretty picky and this video looks absolutely perfect, but I feel most examples with this lens dont cut it for me...

the sensor in my vx misalligned itself and im just so over it at this point im making the jump to HD. really like the versatility of the Sony bodies(a7iii?) as im more of a photographer, but gh5 just seems so much better for filming.

it does look great, but also bear in mind that's JM Sneep footage, and he's a genius, and put in years with these setups to dial in the exact body/mic/handle config, settings, and shit to do in post. One thing i've heard is that it's very easy to get micro-jitters when follow filming with these camera bodies because of the weight distribution. He's also replacing the vignetting in post (@JMSneep correct me if i'm wrong on that)

But yeah if I ever went this route, my first stop would be GH5/Meike. but I think it would take me alot of fiddling to get it to approach Sneep levels of quality.
