Being a taller guy you might enjoy the longer wheelbases of the Cardiel (snuff & Huffer) decks.
[close]

Yes, decks with longer wheelbases are my priority but also I want a shape I like. If somebody knows how is the wood of Tired Skateboards let me know, please. I've not found any info online. Thank you!
[close]

Tired are BBS as far as I’m aware, I’m skating one of the 9.125 egg shaped decks at the moment (I think it’s the “Chuck” shape) and been really enjoying it. All of the shaped Tired decks I’ve seen have super mellow kicks/concave and most if not all have a 14”WB I believe (may be wrong but I think that’s the case), so maybe keep that in mind if you were thinking of grabbing one
[close]

rad if true. if you have any info to back that BBS mfg info up, drop it in the woodshop thread b/c i think the tired info is wicked out of date.
[close]

Just had a quick look at the Tired decks we’ve got in stock to compare to other BBS brands and the Tired decks have the exact same warning sticker as the FA decks we’ve got in (the FAs have the wee hologram sticker on em too so definitely BBS) as well as some other brands. The one I’m skating also had the circular puncture between the top bolts and defo feels like the other BBS decks I’ve skated recently so I’m fairly sure, will try to remember to post in the woodshop thread when I’m home tonight!
[close]

my Tired deck (1989 shape) does not have any warning/holographic stickers on it, also no dimple. could that mean Euro and US are difrent woodshops? or did the recently make the swich to BBS. the one i got came out over a year ago.
[close]

That one you have is older stock.

I think the BBS Tired boards came out maybe a month or so ago, definitely fairly new, like a few other brands that have changed in the last few months, including Skate Mental (Curren Caples egg shape) and GX1000 / Quasi who are going to be using both BBS and PS Stix for theirs, but not sure which for their egg shapes, just to keep it thread relevant.

Quasi are using PS Stix for their egg shape—at least for the this last run.

I noticed all of the clearance Primitive Villiani eggs were gone the first few hours of the SW 25% off sale. Still some Heroin eggs though.

i can atleast tell you the Black Label in Japan are straight from the US, i've been at the distro that imports them.
but in the end. i dont think you should worry too much. just get what you like. doubt you gonna feel the difrence in wood anyway.
[close]

Thank you! It's good to know because Black Label was one of my first choices.

I’m in Japan too. Black Label is distributed by Underdog distribution

And the boards are fine. I’m riding a Black Widow right now actually, and really like it. Have one more in the closet.

Where in Japan are you?

Forgive my noob shit when it comes to shaped boards, but in reading through a lot of this thread I see a lot of things like “9.0 but rides like an 8.5” — why would that be?  Because of the taper near the trucks?

What other advantages/disadvantages would an egg shaped board have?

I have a regular popsicle and a love seat
Yesterday afternoon I wasn't feeling like doing much but the love seat was sitting to the left of my tv
Just looking at it made me get off my ass and I went and skated for a couple hours

Long story short. shaped boards (especially eggs) make me want to go skate
That's the first thing I thought when I read your question

There's plenty of other reasons

new Freddy egg (9"wide is the only stat provided, but I believe that makes it different from the previous Raybourn egg)

Real estate in the middle. responsiveness off the tail and nose. you can ride a wide board that feels comfy on tranny but will still flip really well. and you can ride a variety of truck widths on them depending on how what and how you like to skate. for instance with a cardiel 9.18 Huffer, people dig everything from 8.5" axles to 9.125" axles. that's a big range.

on a personal note, being older than shit, my most progressive skateboarding years were when big shapes narrowed down to eggs and before the advent of the super skinny popsicle. so there's a nostalgia angle for me. to this day i find myself doing my best skateboarding on eggs and i love the way they look.

mostly skate the Huffer but also dig the loveseat/ couch and occasional heroin egg. really like the Black Label squared off 'blunted egg' shapes also, slide the spider egg.

Anyone know how the concave compares on some of these?

Thinking around 9” for my first egg, but curious about concave.

Loveseat vs heroin vs metal etc

If someone is trying to find some technical advantage of riding a shape that isn’t a popsicle maybe it’s just not for you.
For me riding a shaped board is a mix of boredom and being sentimental/nostalgic about skating back in the early 90’s.
Everyone’s experience is different but that’s just how it is for me.

my metal raybourn eggs are a standard mellow i m o. got two and they seem to be about the same so i can't speak to any pressing order # variations like antihero etc might have
that being said this is never a bad option

I can measure when I get a deck in my hands, but looks to be in or around 8.75 or slightly less. I've gotten used to riding Indy 159s on anything 8.5 and up so I'd probably go with them regardless.

Had a blast with this Polar 8.75 football. My first egg shaped board. And my first time back out since blowing out my knee out at the end of August.

Have to say…I was all in on the full/shovel nose shape (Quasi and Metal) and didn’t think I’d dig the egg. I had so much fun with it. I was most skating small transition and it really carved like a surf board.
