Egg boards are soooo confusing.  Been trying to understand how to find the right size. I love the WKND board but recently got a razoregg twin. 9.5 I believe.  I normally ride venture but put on some ace 66 ont he razoregg and it’s been awesome. Can only nollie heel on it tech wise.  What board would line up flush with the ACE 66? I’m really liking the set up but I think if I could go a tad smaller without the trucks going over the edge.  I can only ride flush or a tad bit smaller. But I can’t ride with them sticking out.  Much appreciate any responses.  I was thinking the Frankie Villani 9.125 but at the taper would the ace 66 stick out?  Heated wheel has some rad ones too.  Thanks in advance!

Most of the time egg shaped boards are good going down one truck size from the total width, sometimes two, but that depends on which trucks and what options there are in their sizing, but usually trucks of size 8.25, 8.5, 8.75 and 9.0 are fairly easy to match up to approximately 1/4 to 1/2" up in board width, maybe more so 1/2" if you want the trucks to sit inside, more so than right on the board edge.

Example - the 9.1 egg fits well on 8.75 trucks for me, but some people do like them on 8.5 trucks.

As to your trucks, did you have Ace Classic 66 which are 9.38, or Ace AF1 which are 9.0 even?  Guessing AF1 at 9.0 but with only one washer on the inside, the wheels will sit way further in so you could go down to maybe 9.2 board width, give or take however much and even with slim wheels, they could fit well enough, but you might have axle ends sticking out some.

Some sites do have the board width over the trucks, so that really helps, even if you are not buying from the site, it can still be good to check anyway.

Thanks so much man! Seriously.  Super helpful! I ride the AF1 (9” axle / 66)  hollow with a 53mm v5 x99 wheel. What you said makes good sense.  I think the razoregg and the egg on brain is the exact same board based on dimensions posted.  I’ve been riding it well but just can’t flip them.  I came from an 8.25 w ventures. Variety of regular and switch tech tricks. The stability on the egg is insane and makes ledges and going fast the priority it also could be I just done practice or try flip tricks on it enough to figure it out.

With that said I think the 8.75 would be narrower than I want to go so I’m going to look for the 9.25 egg and hope it works.  Hate that graphic so I’ll have to find something more to my liking. Maybe old stock.  Much appreciate you taking the time to respond so throughly.  I’m 48 now so maybe letting go of flip tricks is part of the process.

What's good egg fam, I just retired my Prime UFO (https://primewood.la/products/prime-heritage-n20) that I bought when it was way cheaper, I really enjoyed it but I'm not interested in spending 90 bucks plus tax and shipping for another one. Does anyone have any recommendations for eggs in that size range that are more affordable? I also enjoyed the Blind Tim Gavin slick with the evil veterinarian cartoon on it (https://blindskateboards.com/products/blind-tim-gavin-dog-pound-slick-multi-8-125-r7-skateboard-deck?srsltid=AfmBOop85d_6opR9oBPkfopLqyN6e5tWGezuCaenHwlbpp_9ZcBpiPA2) if anyone knows boards similar to that, I'm pretty sure those two boards are relatively close in shape.

Op, you ok man? Being real here, you doin alright?

Mark-o @Mbrimson88 always good with the insights.

I've been thinking about trying an egg or a Polar 1991 / P9 shape to mix things up, but I don't want to accumulate a mountain of trucks for every combination. Is it safe to assume for egg decks you can go 1/2 or 1/4 a size down from the widest point? Been looking at a 9.1" egg from Death Skateboards, would Thunder 151s / Venture 6.1s work ok?

I've got a stack of popsicles and don't want to get too invested in egg decks, thought I'd try an Enjoi or Madness one on sale. Anyone rode those before? Like the Enjoi 8.75.

Re truck size to that egg board, yes that would work well.

Yes also had or seen those DSM eggs and they would be a good option for a tester or something to set up with existing parts that would be good to see if they work or not.

The Enjoi Jackson 9" egg is an interesting one too.

I guess one of the main things to note is although it is wider through the middle the kicks are often fairly small so some people get used to the shape easily enough, while others might struggle a bit, but that can also depend on the brand / shape, or a number of other factors.

From having a lot of DLX boards, the DLX egg 9.1 or so was easy enough to ride and I have 159s / 8.75" trucks on it, so if the concave is similar to what you like or is known to you, then it shouldn't be a problem riding whatever board, egg or regular popsicle, or other shape of whatever kind.

Hope that makes sense.

Ordered a few eggs and some 8.75 / 9.0 trucks to go along - pseudo birthday setup for myself.

I haven't Venture-d (heh) past 54mm wheels in the past 5 years back on my board, what size wheel could I go for without needing up risers? I'll be riding Film (55mm) or Indys (53-55mm), thinking 56mm might be the max?

* Adding this "Forgive my humour" because sometimes it is a little off, but here goes:

Starting out with a generalisation, people riding eggs to be period specific should be on sub 50 mm wheels, like some awesome humans I know...  If you can't get Lil Beatdowns, then OJs have a Lil Chubbies range, or really I guess anything with LIL in the name should be about right - Lil Smokies good wheel, good price!

Now I got that out of my system, the reality is any and every skateboard no matter what the use, really only needs up to a certain size before things get out of control or become detrimental to the overall use.  That size is determined by a number of factors, but generally something that is not going to be going super fast / down hills / vert ramps or the like can easily be anywhere from 50 mm through 52, 54 up to 56 mm max.  I guess this is also why the most common skateboard wheel size is still 52 mm, even though that seems like a running joke for some, it also goes with 8.25" trucks and 8.3 or so boards, as the most common size parts.  Size 10 shoe as well, if we really want to go middle of the road.

But getting back to wheel size, sure I have 60+ mm wheels on some boards, also have 43 mm wheels or even rounded down some old wheels into the 38 mm wheels of the 90s, but overall most of my main boards now have 54 to 56 mm from new and more often than not they are closer to 50 than to the original sizes they started from new.  Riding larger wheels often doesn't help me much, but it is fun to get out a board with bigger wheels every so often just for kicks.

I don't skate big ramps, deep bowls or even a whole lot of street tech, so my take on this is pretty limited to smaller ramps, skateparks, small spots, curbs, or similar things, not really going super fast either anymore, but I find that the wheels I have on now are perfect for almost everything I like to do and work well for where I am at in my skating.  That's not to say you just had a birthday, getting older, slowing down, or whatever else, but then the question is, what wheel size do you really want to go up to, before you think you maybe should have stayed at a certain size and going past that was a little bit too much fun for you?  I think maybe 54 mm is a good max / soft limit, unless you find a wheel size / shape / other option that you really like and want to give it a go.

Not even going to get started on different duro options to maximise performance and overall use, but there are a few too many things you could take into consideration here, along with wheel shape, wider or narrow, skinny like a Classic or fat like a Radial Full (Spitfire shapes sure, but other shapes too) and all that other stuff as well.  Even the newly reformulated 97s in the Pedro Radial in 55 mm are almost a bit big, but they work well and I have enjoyed them on one of my boards, but I think the other size in 57 mm is just a little too big for me, even on 9" sized boards, where I often like a little bigger / wider wheel to make things look more in proportion.

That's is probably already over my word limit for today, so I will leave it at that for now.

** Making a fun setup is worth the effort, so look around and get whatever tickles your fancy, give it a go and see if it works.  If not, take things off, change things out and experiment and see how it goes.

Thoughts on the Anti Hero Blue Meanie? It’s egg-ish shaped, it’s Deluxe, and the size is exactly what I’m looking for.

Good insight, slight size up from 54mm to 56mm sounds like the plan, still want to have my limited flip tricks in there.

It’s a lot more rectangular than it looks in my experience, does not feel like an egg. I enjoyed riding it but it’s sort of a plank

For anyone in Australia looking for a 9.0 twin egg, I was able to get a few of these made up locally through Omni Boards.

I've been riding it for a few months now, and its been fun and versatile to ride, paired with some AF1 55's

Width (in):   9.0
Wheelbase (in):   14.25
Nose Length (in):   7.0
Tail Length (in):   7.0
Front Axle Width (in):   8.6
Back Axle Width (in):   8.6
