Aside from America being a unique country that offers tax deductions to home owners, tax deferrals for rental owners due to "depreciation," other tax write offs for rental property owners, few if any deductions for renters, and little to no investment in a government run housing corporation to compete with the private market, this hardcore libertarian belief that everyone should learn how to game the system for their own benefit instead of adjusting the rules of the game to better benefit all players is silly. It actively promotes an unhappy society where everyone is just clawing at each other to one rung higher than the next.

This anti-community/people hyper-individualist libertarian nonsense throws out any notion of social good/bad, right/wrong, and firmly leans into power is the only thing that matters. If you have the power to make life harder on others, do it. If you don't have the power to exploit others, you better got get it and stop complaining. It has to be the most primitive notion of how people in society should interact with one another.

And, when it comes to this ridiculous rentier society, it somehow mixes this hyper-aggressive notion of "go exploit and dominate" with the goal of becoming a bum. The goal of landlord economics is to sit on one's ass while living off the labor of others. It brings America back to an economic system akin to feudalism where one has property and the others must go out and work to sustain themselves and their landlord. My neighborhood is filled with empty commercial spaces and mixed use spaces that have sat empty for a couple of years now. A couple half way finished buildings too or that took more than a year to finish. No one is going to buy or rent these spaces but it's cool because the money that built and bought those buildings is just some investment group, likely at least some foreign money, but for sure mostly people who don't live in the city let alone the neighborhood. So that money is just parked there. not losing any value, and we've had a growing unhoused population that desperately needs space and it's all just legal and fine.
