If I went to Atlanta I'd probably go to Ruin and steer clear of the "hEsH dUdEs RaGiNg" scene or whatever.

Every single one of those "hesh dudes raging" is almost certainly much better than you despite being over 50 and not always sober.  If you go to Atlanta and not Stratosphere you are blowing it.  Plus its way closer to bars and Bell South, Ruin is pretty far out there.

Pretty funny that Pat can't even get out of the car for 10 minutes to show the camera crew an empty lot under an overpass without bringing a beer along. It'd be bad for his brand to be seen sans beer I guess.

This made ATL seem a lot more hesh than it really is, and totally omitted the more "street" side (Andy Howell, Brian Chung, Fred Reeves etc) but Stratosphere is rad and these dudes aren't "hicks"-they just like beers and bowls and are southern.

black blocks isnt the same as it used to be. the metal seats are knobbed so your choice is to either skate flat (with no obstacles) or, if you can, skate the blocks

yeah i dig but there's still a lot of history. just thought it was noticeably missing since there was a ton of older bell footage and blocks is another instantly recognizable atl spot.

Longtime ex-Atlanta resident. It's a rad city. However, this video isn't about Atlanta; it's about ||| ATL ||| (AKA Stratosphere). All that stuff about "getting involved with the younger generation" isn't really extended to anyone who chooses to pursue a path that doesn't involve drinking beer and skating ramps, and you can ask most anyone who came of age in the greater Atlanta area over the past fifteen years how the Strat dudes (not all of them, for the record, but a few key players) vibed them out. They'll have an answer.

Also, Ruin is the best, and I feel like all anyone really regularly sessioned at Black Blocks was the flat. Mad love for Stormy, as well.

If you want a glimpse of the street scene in Atlanta, look no further:

I agree with pretty much all of Hecklers comment.

I’ll also add that the bridge spot, was treated like a private club up until they tried to save it.

The Atlanta skate scene way more diverse than this. This is just one piece of the pie

I watched it on Netflix.
Now, we used to say we put on our tights to put on the world. So I don't think it tarnishes the image at all.

Based on all the videos with GT and friends including that dumbass Patlanata it never looked like a welcoming scene.

Yep. Swedish. It was alright. The apparent Aspergers (never mentioned) of the main character, not to mention her leather pants made it fairly comical. Does that make me ableist? Whatever. Anyway, it wasn't enough to make me wanna watch the next season.

The spot that they were talking about the crackhead burned down, and claimed they wanted it for future generations

yep Heckler and jorge nailed it. this is total circle jerk of a very small side of ATL skating. there were so many other things I wanted to see in this episode but I had a feeling early on it would focus on GT and Strat to the neglect of everything else going on. I spent several years in ATL in the mid 2000s skating a lot more than I am now, and loved all the Atlanta Hates Us blog posts, the Matt Creasy videos (especially the VHS one), SEC videos, etc. So many other important players in the ATL scene who could have had a chance to say something.
