Any of you older guys on here pinpoint the moment you started slowing down turning 32 next week and I can definitely feel it

close to this, 27 confidence started going down hill and wasn't able to skate as much

32 now and skating more than I have in the last 5 years regularly and starting to feel good on the board

I was only half joking. For some reason the latter half of my 20s was a real struggle but then by my early 30s, I stopped giving a shit and learned to enjoy skateboarding again and lo and behold came some progress. Skateboarding without the pressure of trying to meet a certain standard and skating what and when I wanted to, helped a shitload.

I took a lot of years off (work, drugs, depression) and came back to skating at 30 so I kinda skipped the slow down and had to restart all again just at a new level.

Enjoying my once a week Trip to The skatepark sometimes even more than When I could go Street skating Daily. Not feeling like having to proof anything makes it a lot more fun to me personally.

41 here. Curbs.. Actually love the curb revival. Low impact and fun as fuck. That said I'd give my left nut to be 20 again.

That’s crazy because 25-32 were super slow down times for me. I think it’s just a strange point in having to grow up. After i turned 32 I quit warming up, I used to get to a spot and have to land every basic trick before trying new ones and once I stopped that practice I got much better and started learning again. Just turned forty and am still learning new ones, albeit on lower ledges and smaller obstacles in general.

Dude, 32 is still very young! I felt like 20 when I was 32...

I'm 43 now and still feel pretty young, and yes you might slow down a bit, it's not necessary though and you can still skate hard. And even if you do, there is still plenty of scope to learn new things and have lots of fun.

I don't think fear is the main factor, it's more caution and risk aversion. I'll still do gnarly stuff, I'll just make sure that when I do I will land it and not slam, that way I can avoid unnecessary injuries and time off the board and work...

glad to hear the late 20s slump is real!

I blamed my rapid decline on having a kid and a new family and not having time to skate but possibly not... just turned 30 and the last few months i have been enjoying skating more than i have in a few years.

I just turned 31 and some days I feel like I’m slowing down but I’m learning new tricks and dif variations of old tricks all the time.
Recently filmed a line I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
I don’t wanna slow down.

Right around 19/20 I was having fun and skating decent, but that’s when I got into the gnarly, gnarly drugs so that little burst faded fast. Spent the next 15 years too drunk and high to do anything resembling good skating. Got my shit together in my mid-30’s and was skating really well (for me anyway). Then I broke my leg and it all went shit. Now at 43 I have health issues that have wrecked me physically. No energy and no strength, so skating now consists of playing around in the street in front of my house and the very occasional disappointing trip to the park. No street missions anymore. It’s a bummer, and hopefully I’ll be over this shit soon and can put in some actual effort, but it’s still fun to roll just for my own mental well being.

One thing that I got better at with age was being able to think through a trick and actually have a good idea of what I wanted my body to do. Nowhere near as many Hail Marys just hucking myself and my board around. Problem is my body can’t do what it used to.

The slump is not necessarily inevitable. I'm in my 40's but I still have all my tricks.  I thought I hit the slump in my 30's but, as cliche as it sounds, I started stretching more, eating better, and doing some core strengthening and got all my tricks back.

I was hurt from 24-28 and didn't think I'd be able to skate again. A few months after turning 28 I dove back in but kept getting frustrated because nothing seemed to work out and I felt real uncomfortable on a board. Now after turning 29 everything seems to be working out again, the only big thing is that I can't skate more than two-three hours without feeling like I ran a marathon. I meet up with some guys that are in their 40's to skate street and they kill it. Some of them say they've skated more in their 40's than their 30's

31. If I can't jump up it, I don't need to jump down it. I've learned to really appreciate the little things and learning a new trick feels like discovering the Holy Grail. Self confidence on board could definitely use some work.

I slowed down the most after knee surgery. Just passed thirty not too long ago and the biggest concern of mine is being poor and getting hurt like that again.

If you put in some effort into conditioning and strengthening your knee, it helps you keep up

In my 40s now and there are ebbs and flows. Some nights I'll eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's and the next morning I'll be landing everything first try; some nights I'll get 8 hours and eat a sensible breakfast and then airball every kickflip.  ???

Going to the gym a few days a week helps tho.

Turning 29 in 3 weeks and I feel the least comfortable and confident on my board than I ever have. Bruised my tailbone a month ago and just had my first session since and felt real shaky. I still had a good session after 30-45 mins of warmup, but I definitely noticed a difference.

It sounds stupid but there was for sure a moment during that session where I thought to myself “I will never be as good as I used to be”. I realize this is the least consistently I’ve been skating too (job, girlfriend, responsibilities, blah blah), but nevertheless I noticed it. I’m happy to see this thread knowing there are others going through the same feeling!

Skating is still fun and will always be there, so it could definitely be worse. Looking forward to 32 after seeing everyone’s response.

35 here. I had a serious back injury at 32. Couldn’t skate for about five months, and then it was just cruising for another few months. After I got over all of that, I have some pretty big mental and physical blocks. Speed is a big issue sometimes, fully mental, and I can usually work through that. My pop is fucked. I’m not “springy” anymore. Even with yoga and exercise I still can’t Ollie more than a curb. It gets frustrating, but I find what works and go for it. Curbs, wallrides, tranny. I miss skating ledges, luckily I can cheat rocket ollies into noseslides and k’s

Definitely had a slump from 26-29. Just turned 31 and have been skating more now in the last 1 to 2 years than i did in those 3 slump years. Still feel good. Sometimes all it takes is some new gear like a new deck or wheels to get hyped again on skating. My kickflips have disappeared but switch flips still work well

30 was when I lost confidence on rails due to a bad slam.
32 was when I was starting to lose tricks,(I worked 60 hours a week which led to most of this).
36 was when the pain kicked in
