This is something I think about a lot, actually, especially as I'm old now and when I slam it fucks me up for a good few days. One of the guys I grew up with, Ben Woosley, had this innate ability to fucking cartwheel and tumble out of any bail and he never seemed to get hurt. And he skated far burlier than any of the rest of our little crew. I've noticed that when I fall I seem to have this little seizure as I'm making my way towards the concrete and then when I hit it I'm in fully-stressed mode, so I smack the ground and then either just grind on the pavement or stop completely. I also tend to throw the same body part at the ground as defense, usually my left hip and left forearm. Those are both so fucked up I had to go get a bone scan because my doctor thought I might have cracked my hip bone. I considered taking Jiu Jitsu or something to learn how to roll with shit, but the only thing I'm naturally good at is being lazy and so in the end I just skipped it all and continue hurting myself badly when I fall down.
