8.25x31.875 (14.3"WB) Polar
5.6 Venture TI with Ti axle/kingpin nuts
Bones Meds
51ish Spit 101 Radial Slims w/Spitfire classics bearings (too lazy to swap out the swiss for right now)
Mix of grip based on scraps (lazy)
Thunder bolts

It's a very comfortable ride - did a lot of gear-madness switching and this combo felt the best (even with the longer than I wanted WB+Ventures).
[close]

I didn't know Polar made an 8.25 with a 14.3 wb, thought they were all 14.125. Nice looking setup though.
[close]
Read from several posts that their listed 14.125 WB is a true 14.3 since Polar measures it from edge of mounting hole to edge instead of middle to middle.
[close]

I've also read that the polar 8.37 and 8.5 shape are actually more of a 14.37 wheelbase as opposed to 14.5 which would mean they're measuring those decks differently to how they measure the 8.25. So confused now lol. I actually wanted to try a polar 8.25 but was a bit scared the kicks would be one the smaller side but now just concerned about the misleading wheelbase.
[close]

Today I measured the wheelbase on a 8.38 from the latest release, it measured 367mm center - center of mounting hole. That's exactly the same as my 8.5 krooked that's supposed to have a 14.38 inch wheelbase
[close]

14.4488"

Thanks for doing the math

It's annoying companies can't be relied on to give accurate measures. I don't want to bring a measuring tape to a skate shop like a pedantic gear freak

I find that only the 'easy' increments are accurate (.125, .25. .5) and once you get into the odd ones like 8.3x" widths and anything between 14.25 - 14.5" WB are inaccurate as fuck...and clearly lots of shops/brands round up or down...but a 14.3" wb when it's supposed to be a 14.125" is just a communication fuck up (or perhaps even a 'run' fuckup).

Great, my gear madness really needed another factor!
[close]

I bought it specifically for the WB dimensions coupled with the wheel wells and sadly it's no an 8.125" as advertised. I'm still going to skate it as this WB used to be my go to if I could find it; If anything I'll swap out the Ventures with  Theeves or something to pull the WB in a little as I've always done on 14.3x wbs.

Swap out the forged baseplate for a cast one; shortened WB with that great Venture feel.

Kicks are medium mellow, nose and tail are nice and round (tail has a good taper not pointy but is long), they're full but full to be 'full' if that makes any sense, concave is medium.

Good to know, if the kicks are too small my whole foot starts dragging on tailslides. Reassuring that you like them with forged plate ventures which is what I'm also skating. Will probably have to try at some point.

It's annoying companies can't be relied on to give accurate measures. I don't want to bring a measuring tape to a skate shop like a pedantic gear freak

I know someone on slap that does that, haha.  I won’t out them though.

Primitive 8.25 x 31.875 x 14
Venture 5.8 Titanium
Bones Easy Streets V2 53mm
Bones Big Balls
Assorted hardware

First session after my country came out of lockdown and it was disappointing to say the least. The park was 45 minutes away (25 minutes by bus, 20 minutes walking), puddles in the park from night time showers, started pouring 15 minutes in and I tweaked my ankle trying to force a kickflip before the rain got heavier.

Setup felt way too tippy and lacked the signature heft of Ventures, I used to think 14" was my ideal WB but I'm beginning to believe woodshops stick with 14.25" as a good middle ground. Going to give the board another go with Venture 5.6 V-Hollows; hopefully the added weight and slight WB extension return some heft to the setup.

It's a shame, the gold deck and baseplate combo were looking sick.

What's the weight on the 5.8 tits? I think 5.6 hollows are around 325-330g so I can't imagine the 5.8 would be much lighter.

Foundation Corey Duffel "Barkee" 8.38" x 31.75" 14.38" wb
Krux standard 8.5
OJ from concentrate 54mm hardline
Seismic tekton 6 ball
Black widow grip

Wanted to support one of the local shops and the deck I originally planned to buy sold the day before so I figured I'd try this goofy looking motherfucker out. Don't usually do shaped decks but this is actually pretty good, it's like a longer/skinnier version of the AH Kanfoush Yinzer shape which is I also like.

The trucks on the other hand... they kind of suck. They're super high and tippy but don't fucking turn. Now I get why all those YouTube dudes ride them, if you just want to roll in a straight line and be able to stay on your board when you land weird these are great. The pop is really nice and they grind OK on concrete, but no matter how loose I have them they just don't turn. I eventually got them to a somewhat bearable point by doing bones medium with no bottom washer and the flat washer on top but I don't think these are going in my regular rotation.

I'm probably going to put indys on this deck so I can actually enjoy riding it and move the krux over to a mellower flat ground setup, most likely my 8.38 blood wizard.

I had the same issue with Krux. Mine didn’t turn at all and after experimenting a bunch it turns out that the problem is the baseplates (imo). The part of the baseplate where the kingpin exits is lower than all of the other truck brands I’ve seen. I think this changes the angle of the kingpin and hangar so that there is little to no arc when the wheel moves from its resting position to making contact with the deck, it just goes straight to the deck when you lean to turn (or at least minimal arc).

Anyway, all that guesswork aside, the only solution I could find was throwing the Krux hangars on some Indy baseplates. Then they turned fine and I actually liked the grind on the Krux.

I got this one from DOA website around a year ago and had it in my basement, so I don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere online in at least 8 months or so. I’ll keep an eye out though and message you if I see anyone carrying one!

Probably just over 300g. The Titaniums add 3.4" to WB, V-Hollow add 3.5". It's miniscule but I'm committed to making the board work.

@rocklobster- i’m sure you’ve seen in the venture thread, but if you have a set cast baseplates maybe try those out. as opposed to hollows, cast will shorten the wb and still give you a bit of that heft youre looking for

The trucks on the other hand... they kind of suck.

Fixed that for you.

I had a set that I gave away after skating them for part of a couple sessions. I would start on them, then after 15 minutes grab a different board that actually turned.

The problem was the board feeling too light from the shortened WB, going cast would shorten the WB more and give an even tippier feeling.

Swapped our the 5.8 Ti forged baseplate with a cast one and grabbed a lightly used DLX 8.18 with a longer WB (14.38) so that should give more stability while reducing weight.

So I fucked up my shoulder (google translate says shoulder corner blast is what it's called in English)  mid january and was pretty much out of skating during the whole corona-scam besides a little pushing here and there.
2-3 weeks ago i got back into doing tricks and what not and my set-up felt so bad and rusty , I dunno if it was just all in my head or if the setup took a hit from just laying around. Normally I could skate whatever and was never too picky about stuff, but it just wouldn get better over a week of skating. Soggy deck, "heavy" trucks, Kinda slow rolling, just uncomfortable overall.
So either an injury really got to me for the first time (normally i would get back to normal Level within a few days, max a week, though i'm 30+ now) or my Set-up was/has become terrible.
Looking up info for Set-ups i ended up lurking on here and selling literally my whole shit on eBay and got a complete new everything for the first time since 1999, even shoes!

Old complete was:
Random German Company 8" PS-Stix
Polster Trucks Titanium (a Bit like Thunder 147s)
53mm blank wheels
Bones Swiss(min. 2 years old)
Random shop grip

New shit is this, thought I'd share it with you:

The JK deck was supposed to be green, Not too happy about the Pink color and fingers crossed the magnesium trucks are any good and ofcourse the Girl F.A.F. Bearings might be terrible...wish me luck !

Snapped the top ply of my deck, thankfully the shop is down the street from the park. Had a pretty good conversation with the shop guy about different rail brands while he was showing me the options (RIB BONES >>>>>>>>)

Hockey Battery 8.25" x 31.79" with 14.12" WB
Venture Hi 5.6 (anyone else find that the hanger wears down surprisingly quickly? Got these maybe three-four weeks ago, slappied these for maybe a total of 6-7 sessions and I'm almost at axle already.)
Spitfire F4 99a Tablets ~52mm
Thunder 1" hardware
MOB
Bones Swiss
Skeleton Key (Creature) Rails (INSTALLATION FUCKING SUCKS. RAIL DOESN'T SIT FLUSH WITH THE DECK AND A FULL SIZE SCREWDRIVER AND A POWER DRILL DIDN'T HELP. SPENT LIKE AN HOUR TRYING TO FIX IT BUT NOW I'M OVER IT)
Black Label/Slappy Hour stickers

Those green tablets have grown on me big time. Might have to track down a set.

They're actually teal, but definitely get darker over time to a darker teal that appears green-ish

I hit axle on my most recent set of Venture 5.8 vlights in about two months, the titanium set I had before that it took me about 5-6. I used to never hit axle when I skated Indys, Aces, Thunders and would just swap my trucks out when they fucked out in other ways. I'm definitely skating way more and also holding grinds longer on chunkier ledges lately, but it does seem possible that ventures grind down quicker than indys.
