My brand, Losers 8.25, woodchuck wood
Tensor ATG mag
Ricta speed ring 52mm slim
Bones swiss
Grizzly grip

I actually made this graphic last year and my PO got mixed up with another order back in March, so I’m only just now getting these boards after element and hoops both had their peanuts inpired graphics.

All of the Losers graphics are fantastic. Great looking boards man!

sweet..gud to know..i havent set up mine yet.still need to go through other eggball boards..

I have 159s on mine and it’s perfect. With the way the nose/tail tapers you can run 8.5-8.75 trucks and be ok.
Lil Jawns just reposted my set up, but it’s pretty similar.

Quasi Chembaby 8" / 31.75" / 14.5"
Thunder Silvas Team Hollow
Thunder hard bushings (black)
Spitfire F4 OG Classic 54mm 97a
Bones Swiss
Indy bolts
Jessup

My first new set-up in 24 years.  The last being a Big Spin blank back in 1997.

Damn let us know how a 14.5 wheelbase + thunders go

I've had a couple of sessions with this board now and it doesn't seem to have that much pop.  I haven't skated properly for 24 years so it could be my legs (I hope not!) but I'm wondering if it's the long wheelbase + Thunders giving a long axel length?  Is this what you were getting at?

I'm thinking about adding some risers pads and/or using 56mm wheels.  Otherwise I've got a pair of Indy Stage 11 hollow which will give a shorter axel length.

Your wheelbase plus how much your trucks add to it is overall wheelbase. So regular Indy's are kinda right in the middle and add 3" to your overall wheelbase. Team Thunders add 3.125" making the overall wheelbase of your setup 17 and 6/8th" when a standard might be something more like 17.25. Depending on your own personal measurements, this might be too big for you to manage and why you're not feeling the pop.

You can read more about this here if you're interested: https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=108580.0

I will say I'm pretty sure the chembaby 8"s were supposed to have 14.25wb but that doesn't mean you didn't accidentally get a 14.5

Thanks for the info, this is really useful.  I knew I wouldn't get my set-up right first time but other than the pop I'm really happy with everything else, it feels comfortable to ride.  In the pre-internet era guidance concerning wheelbase just wasn't readily available.  I'm not even sure if many people took this into consideration, decks could be so widely different that you just stood on them in the skate store and picked whichever felt most suitable or which graphic you liked most!

I measured from the centre of each bolt and it's definitely 14.5".  How accurate are manufacturer measurements usually?
I've seen a different length for this deck also, I think this is because it was measured with the concave.

I might be fucking blind but I see the rear bolt hole directly above the 1/4" mark

I've had that Quasi shape and it's not the first I would recommend for someone that hasn't been skating for a while. Quasi tend to have steeper noses and shorter tails and are "less traditional" of a shape. I found that shape a bit squirrely and tried it on a few brands of trucks. Team Hollows are a pretty middle ground truck and don't stretch the WB as much as Thunder forged or any Indy options.

I would recommend a BBS option in the 8.125-8.25 range, keep your Team Hollows, and maybe go down to 52's.

That's not 14.5.  That's 14.25.  You have to measure from center to center of the bolts, not edge to edge.

 Currently on:
Sweet sktbs 8.0
Film hollow pin 5.25
Ricta speed rings 52 mm 99a
Mostly hard luck ceramics with 2 or 3 bronson g3
Diamond yuto 7/8 allen
Classic diamond dust grip

Just set up because I'm curious and have an insane amount of trucks, wheels and bearings, just like my shoe collection if you saw that post in that thread:
Sweet 8.0
Venture yuto 5.2 hi light with flat top washer
Mosaic sq miramon 52 mm 102a
Mosaic super 1 abec 7
Doomsayers 7/8
Mostly mob with old sweet cheetah strip.

Just about done with the quattros, started skating the 440 with remind medics.

It's the angle of the camera, the start of the tape is definitely over the centre of the bolt.
Yeah, I do notice the steep nose.  Why would you recommend going up in width?
I have some Bones STF 52 v4 which I tried but they feel way too small and are horrible for skating the pavements in my area.  I had 60mm 97a(95a?) Rat Bones on my last board.

Ya dude that is a 14.25 WB.

So, it depends on brands, but a lot of brands tend to have 8 or 8.06 that are fairly long. Quite a few have fairly long kicks: Polar I think has longer kicks on their 8 than their 8.25. I had a Carpet, which uses generic BBS shapes, 8.125 which is the Black AH Eagle shape and it actually had a longer tail and nose compare to my 8.25.

Shapes are not straightforward now. I’m on an 8.5 with a 14.25 that feels basically like an 8.25, but I’ve had super long 8.25s I hated. Things don’t always linearly scale up. Personally speaking 14” WB decks don’t pop any better than a 14.25 and 14.25 with an 8.25 puts you at the exact middle of the range of modern board dimensions.

Your deck has 14.25 wb for sure. That's good news if you ask me because like mentioned before that's middle of the road. Also mentioned that Quasi decks have short tails, so maybe give it a few sessions and try different foot placement to get that pop back. Anyhow nice setup you have man.

Ok

Excellent comment.
Quasi for certain with the smaller tails, in my experience. Messing with where you put your popping foot, in relation to the tail, can make a big difference. On a shorter tail the ball of my foot goes nearer to the tip of the tail. That’s just me, it depends on what trucks I’m using, how big my wheels are, etc.
I take long breaks from skating. Give yourself some time to get back to it.

Bigger wheels lift the board off the ground more, if you were skating 20 years ago wheels were tiny so your tail was closer to the ground making the board feel more snappy and responsive. Even going up 2mm from 52mm to 54mm can have a noticeable difference in pop feel.
Venture Truck Height:

5.0 & 5.2 LO
STANDARD - 1.88” - 47.75mm
FORGED - 1.85”- 46.99mm

5.0 ,5.2, 5.6, 5.8 & 6.1 HI
STANDARD - 2.09” - 53.09mm
FORGED - 2.04” - 51.82m

Also some Quasi shapes have steeper kicks than decks used to have. I’ve never gotten used to it really and can’t skate much over the mellow end of medium. Thunders can make the pop feel even heavier since they stretch the WB slightly and make the tail take longer to hit. The shorter/steeper tails can take a bit to get used to as they hit much later. Took me a few years of being back at it to figure it out. I skated from 1997-2002, 2004-2009, then stopped until 2017. I basically stopped skating on setups that don’t really exist anymore and it took a while to find what I like.

I’d say stick with it for the life of the deck, then when you get something else. When you do get something on the mellower end of modern but keep the trucks and WB the same so you can isolate one change at a time.

I think they were 54 when I got them probably around 50 now. They’re fine but I intend on going back to 99a as these aren’t always the most power slide friendly.
