Unrelated to the previous post today so kind of random but can anyone confirm if Erik Herrera skates the Lo's? I thought I spotted some in recent footage as well as in his Bunny Hop part but it's difficult to be sure just on video alone.

As promised here is a little basic truck evolution with some Venture Low 5.0's.

From front to back:

1) Old Awake logo: I'm not 100% sure but possibly featherlites from the mid-90s?
2) Street Corner V-logo: I would guess early 2000's.
3) Deluxe V-Hollow polished: 2020's.

Interesting to see how the basic hangers have changed over the years.

PS Excuse the blown/replacement bushing situation, I would upgrade them if I had them set up! :)

A friend skates with him and says he skates 5.6 highs on an 8.25 or 8.3

I'm glad to have skated every style of Ventures from 90's to current iteration. Although back in the day they didn't turn for shit I had to adjust for lack thereof turning ability they are a solid truck company. These are great pictures definite nostalgia for them.

Here's a close up of a Featherlite. The trucks with the awake logo are Superlite's from the late 90's/very early 2000's

Nice one, unfortunately they aren't the original bushings in the picture, just some green mini-logo ones I happened to have have spare as the originals were beyond saving.

Thank you for the precise identification.

If the opportunity to add more variants to the collection arises, I'll add them to the line-up on here of course! :)

Wonderful selection you have there, are those 50mm tablets you have on the current lows?

holy shit, I completely forgot I had awake ventures. the first time I bough ventures. lmao. I was like 13, and I skated those with the first run of baker decks when they first came out. 🤣☠️ so I’m gonna assume it would’ve been mid 2000. It was the OG baker bootleg logo, with the elephant 🐘. with a piss yellow background, and it had “PD” under at least one set of bolt holes. lmao. it was a 7.5” x 31.63”

oh, and the trucks DID NOT turn. lol. I couldn’t do any tricks really yet, so it didn’t matter anyway.

I don’t think I’ll ever regain that level of pure happiness again for the rest of my natural life on earth. for other obvious reasons besides the skateboard.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Excellent spread. 2nd'ing the question about the wheel size. They look bigger than 50mm?

Also if it's not too much trouble, I'm curious if there are any variations in how each baseplate affects/affected wheelbase. Could you take a photo of all three with the holes aligned and hangers off?? I don't know what gnarring is so here's one in advance.  :o

I did and it's been glorious. The pop stability (and yes, still being able to turn) is unmatched.

Fresh Bones Hard bushings (flat bottom washer) for me tho, it just feel right.

Quite simply, it is down to whether or not you like it like that, or how well you adapt to it from whatever else you have been on.

Some people love the quick and heavy snap pop of Ventures on steep boards, while others (myself included) can not deal with it at all.

In saying that, I am old and broken and have double drilled a lot of Venture (and Indy) trucks like the V8 option and that makes any board work really well for me, while others find it way too light on the kicks, so there is always going to be someone that will love something, vs someone else who will not be able to skate it at all.

Some of the pro dudes will ride whatever boards or gear they get sent, including steep boards on Venture trucks, so I guess if you have any doubts, maybe even just put them on an old board and just stand on it and pop an ollie or two and just feel them out, before setting them up and going for it.

Any new truck is usually going to be a bit funny at first anyway, bushings needing time to wear in and just feeling out the new setup, but if you already have them, it wouldn't hurt to see what they feel like compared to whatever else you have set up right now.

* Ventures do work well on shorter wheelbase boards, which FA / Hockey do have too.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

to me, and i could be very wrong here, the violet shapes look inspired by old alien/fa. most of violet is in venture.

i’ve tried to do the matching a decent the trucks, but i have better luck just skating the trucks i want to skate, with whatever. more often than not, i skate venture. for reasons of culture.

my current want is a to get a specific fa board and some venture lo’s.

blah blah blah, skate whatever ya like. (but i too try and and skate the similar parts as the people that the boards are designed for )

many people skate fa/hockey boards with ventures
i have in the past and it was great, the 8.5/14.25wb
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

Case example: last year I had this mellow Sour 8.25 deck (HLC) with a 14.25 wb. I skated it with forged Indy 144s, and my pop was just all over the place and basically just shitty. (I'm normally riding Indys with a 14.38 wb deck, steeper kicks preferred.)

Well, tried slapping on a pair a pair of forged Venture Hi 5.6's, and lo and behold, my pop came back all snappy.

Ergo: Ventures might and can work when your deck feels too light pop-wise and if the wheelbase is a bit short for your liking.

Just one example, anyway. Gotta feel it out yourself, of course.

So is venture presumably gonna keep making V8 trucks after this run of koston ones? Just cause it would suck if these were a one off and you enjoyed skating them. I'm very tempted to buy a pair since getting to have a more narrow WB on ventures, especially with longer boards, would be great, but don't wanna have venture stop making them.

Also has anyone gotten a definitive measurement on these for WB, and if so is it +2.75"?

Yeah, there are regular polished ones, including 6.1s. I can't remember whether they release in one of the spring or summer drops, but it looks like they will be part of the regular lineup.

Hi, not sure if that question was for me but I could try and take some holes aligned comparison shots with the three models I have this week for you if that helps? I don't want to clog up the thread with bad/possibly inaccurate wheelbase measurements though so keep in mind it'll just be a basic visual reference.

Also, as mentioned before and by others, there are more hanger and baseplate variants (forged/cast options etc.) which can all have an effect on wheelbase.

Cheers!

Damn that's a good point about the hangers. Didn't think of that - those look totally different and probably throw off any wheelbase comparison without them. I guess a better way to do it would be from the side of the truck with the hanger on? Like a profile view. I forgot where I saved this attached image from that shows where the axle ends up relative to the baseplate holes... I've never tried to take a photo like that myself and it looks like it could be difficult. maybe not idk and probably not worth your time at all! haha

I did mean to reply to the other poster who has the three with all cast baseplates haha but all good! Also they look like they are banned

This thread is smoking. I love living at old dead stock.

Also, someone asked what’s the best combo with ventures. In my opinion it’s been the Metal products. Especially the 9 with the 14” plus 5.8s. But all 3 set up of several shapes sizes and wbs. Those was the top. Also this Alien reissue Art blah blah blah. My friend gave me off his wall. It had a screen grab from memory screen in it of people with gas mask on under the UN flag and bunker.

That particular ps deck was magic. I’ve yet to try fa or violet. I imagine all that shit is sovereign insect in nature.

I also really liked all the glue stuff I got. That was also a PS Stix big nose small tail stuff.

From all the messing around I have done with different trucks on different boards, as well as trying the double drilled options, you are right in that the regular shaped / pressed boards with shorter wheelbases work well for Ventures, eg the Alien Workshop decks, Metal and associated board companies who all have that same shape and fit.  Some Primitive and April decks too, for that matter.  They have what seems like normal length pressed boards, with slightly shorter drilled in hole patterns on the decks which means any longer wheelbase truck will fit on there quite well.

Regular or normal boards with longer wheelbases feel so heavy on the pop with normal Venture trucks for me, but at least with the V8 or double drilled baseplates, it makes almost anything work a lot better in that regard too, for myself and a few others anyway.

Some people had said it makes it too light, but I think having the option for either drilled hole position really makes things way more accessible for many more boards, but not everything, so I noticed.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.
