That shape is grossss- Ben even called out how pointy it is due to the width and kicks. Most people I know ride it in Indy 149 standards which Reynolds designed it on.

that shape is not gross, max disagree

totally agree with the indy standard 149s seeming like the truck for that board.

The kicks look like a little kid tried to draw a sword. Def my least favorite Baker shape it's the 8.1/8.25 kicks and they only added width in the middle. I gave the one I had to a friend and last I asked I think it's had like 4-5 homes and everyone is like "this shape is just gross".

But anyways at 14.25 and mellow kicks I'd use a cast Indy or Venture personally. Help offset some mellowness with a heftier pop feel. I haven't gotten forged and Baker to ever feel right to me unfortunately although Reynolds seems to now and I guess if it works for the GOAT then it has to for me.

Hi, I'm taking the liberty of bothering you with a little question. So far, I've been riding an 8.125 14WB with AF1 44s, Aces hard bushings, and a 56mm Radial Full. It's pretty nice, but not very comfortable for my 46-year-old self.

So I got myself an OG Mellow Baker in 8.47 14.25WB, and now comes the truck choice.

I have Thunder 151s and Inde 159s, but I was wondering if trying a Venture 161 or V8 5.8 could make this setup more responsive by requiring less effort, despite its height, but more stable than a Thunder, if I remember correctly.

I'll probably also upgrade to 52-54mm, but I'm still hesitating about the shape.

I'm not sure if that makes sense, but thank you.  ;D This would save me from piling up the material...
[close]

og baker 8.47 (b16) is a sick one and i want to get another.
imo those baker boards really work well with indy’s.
that particular shape tapers down over the back bolts. i rode that board shape with a lot of different trucks: 147 thunders, 149 indy’s, 159 indy’s. the 159s were real ride in the back, but that’s not so bad.
from what you have, the ventures might line up the best.
no wrong answers

Is the B16 shape the 8.475 x 31.875 x 14.25 shape ("OG shape, mellow concave" on the sticker")?

If so, I have one on ice and it looks effin' sick. Been planning to skate it with Indy cast 149s and some 55-56mm wheels.

Tail looks pretty tapered but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. My no-comply 180s might require a bit of readjustment, but that's not a big issue.

The spring is getting to me. I've been on Ace for a couple of years but felt a need to switch things up and ordered a set of Cast hi 6.1's on a whim. I even messed up and ordered the normal set instead of the loose conversion I intended to but it might even be for the better. Can't wait to set them up and I hope I don't hate them haha.

Ok

i love that description, little kid trying to draw a sword.

i currently skate, by far the most often, a gx 8.25 shovel nose shape. it’s some old alien/early fa looking thing. in some ways it skates a bit bigger than the 8.25 sizing. i like it. good company, board lasts well, i like their graphics.

what i like about what is almost the opposite end of the spectrum, that 8.475 b16, is with the pointy sword nose and tail, board skates smaller. comes around on the treflips. the tapered nose/tail give me a sense of nostalgia as well. and then it’s mellow, so that’s really nice too.
ok i’ve most likely edged myself into buying the next one i see

At least you can buy the aftermarket loose kit on its own to add in, because you can't buy the stock Venture bushings on their own.

Easy enough to modify the stock bushings as well, so you have more options in that regard, compared to just having the one option buying the loose truck version.

The only other thing would be to drill them out like a V8, but I think I am getting a little too ahead of myself there, in terms of modifying options, from stock standard, to loose, to V8 double holes, etc.

I was under the impression that the loose kit was sold out? If all else fails I think I'd be good with the Ace hard lows since those seem to be available locally too. Or just let my freak flag fly and try some weird combos.

And knock on wood that I don't need to get into the double drilled baseplates. ;D I know my comfort zone and I usually adapt to changes within that in a few sessions so I'm more concerned on getting feel of the other features of the truck & geo. But I'll just have to get into it slow and give it a little time.

Ha yeah, could be a funny one - too many options.

I just saw a restock of those Venture loose bushing kit here in Australia, then checking other places, some shops have sold out but in USA, Tactics currently has 34 sets in stock, so I guess they are around, if not at the very least, minimal or limited stock in some places.

Today’s sesh was trying to hold nose/tail slides for as possible. Coming from Thunders, that baseplate helped a ton. I’ve been on the fence on Ventures for a while but I forgot how nice it is to have a baseplate that makes decent contact

I had a first session on the 6.1 Hi's last thursday. Nothing crazy, just feeling them out. Coming from Ace's I was surprised how good the turning felt. No problem sidewalk surfing and I had the confidence to bomb a small hill within a few minutes on them. Felt good and solid on skatepark QP's especially when getting down low. Super stable. I was popping ollies on the A frame and hip for a good while just because the pop felt so good. It felt very nice to roll around without doing micro movements all the time to keep things going straight. The only thing that I didn't fully figure out on first session was slappies but I think they will come when I get accomodated to the turning better.

Ended up leaving the park because it was starting to turn into a playground and checked out this old mini plaza where I stupidly tried to pop on a bit (for me) higher ledge. Maybe I was too cautious or I whiffed the pop and ended up on the grass over the other side of the ledge. Took my whole upper weight on the outside of my left hand and now I have a broken palm. So now I'm super anxious to skate but have to keep it mellow for a while.

There seem to have been a lot of Venture trucks released in the last while, definitely a lot more in the last year or so which have stock green bushings as well.

Maybe a nod / throwback to the original green bushings they used to have, or people just like them, but I got a few sets of various trucks with the green bushings in them, mainly for the bushings than anything else.

Then there is also the loose truck kit, which has green bushings.

A few options now anyway, but that is really only because the original green bait and tackle bushings seem to be totally sold out and very hard to find.  The green were 94 duro, which was a very common option back then too.

Kind of funny how many Venture trucks with green bushings come up now on a search, eg Ted Barrow versions, Kader trucks, 92 versions, Shake Junt, Cash Only and more.

These Labor shop trucks from 2019 also come up, which look pretty good:

Bushing color talk is fascinating to me. My bushings get so grimy within a couple of sessions that I genuinely can't tell the color anymore. I have currently set up the light blue bushings from the first V8 drop, but they don't look any different than the stock purples ones do once they're broken in. Do y'all care because of those first couple of sessions or is my board just especially dirty?

I'm 100% sure the purples are harder.

And yes, I do keep my board clean to the extent that the color of components is clear. :D Mainly a quick wipe with a paper towel after a dirtier sesh, puddle weather or whatever, no toothbrush scrubbing or anything like that.

Interesting re: cleaning your board. I guess I'm just a slob. And yeah, I agree the pale blue ones are softer than regular stock bushings... That's how I know it's them.

Good one.

The e30 m3 only has 4 cylinders but I think Ishods black one is a 325i..

.. there was an Alpina e36 v8 though, so Ishod just has to get one of those and it could be a Beamer nerds wet dream.

finally going to go back to 5.8s (getting the loose team trucks with the real wood riser pads) after being on AF1 55 hollows with risers for awhile now. i just miss the venture pop feel and the stability!! i saw that it was mentioned above but are the washers on ventures still an issue in terms of tearing the bushings? is the move to still use flat washers?

finally going to go back to 5.8s (getting the loose team trucks with the real wood riser pads) after being on AF1 55 hollows with risers for awhile now. i just miss the venture pop feel and the stability!! i saw that it was mentioned above but are the washers on ventures still an issue in terms of tearing the bushings? is the move to still use flat washers?

for sure, the standard top washer cuts into the hanger, especially when they're loose. the bottom washer is fine though, i use flat just for the tops
