finally going to go back to 5.8s (getting the loose team trucks with the real wood riser pads) after being on AF1 55 hollows with risers for awhile now. i just miss the venture pop feel and the stability!! i saw that it was mentioned above but are the washers on ventures still an issue in terms of tearing the bushings? is the move to still use flat washers?

for sure, the standard top washer cuts into the hanger, especially when they're loose. the bottom washer is fine though, i use flat just for the tops

Anyone in the know aware of plans for Venture to do a non-Koston V8 in the near future? Feels like it’s been long enough to put another one out.  Give someone not milking their career some shine.

^I'm pretty sure someone on here said the V8s are going to come out as a standard plain truck in various sizes soon-ish. That'd be really nice.

Got another one for the Venture experts. If I am riding a Thunder 148 hi, which venture best aligns with that? 5.2? Completely venture illiterate. Been quite some time since I rode them. Are the bushings the same as thunders? as far as how they feel? duro and all?

i just switched from thunder to ventures. i was riding the 148 thunders that are 8.25 and i got the 5.6 ventures that are for a 8.25 deck.

the bushings are the same duro (90a) but the shape is different.

Forged 5.6 (V-Light/V-Hollow) is ~52mm tall.

Cast 5.6 is ~53.5mm tall.

They don’t make Lo 5.6’s…so high it is….which will be an adjustment but it’s still lower than an Indy.  The pop will take a minute to get used to but I think you’ll like them.

i had a fun first session riding the 5.6 v-cast's coming from the thunder IKP 148s.

there the first trucks where i haven't swapped out the stock bushings. they work great!

For the Australian market, the V8 is out now in the Koston truck, in 8, 8.25 and 8.5, or should I say in 5.2, 5.6 and 5.8 so if your local shop doesn't have them, you can ask them to order some in.  I just got a set of the 5.6 to try and compare to my other DIY double drilled baseplates, so most places should have them now, or should be getting them soon enough.

The plain V8 truck in all those sizes in 8 and up as well as 6.1 / 8.75 width is out next drop, but will not be here until later in the year, maybe just nicely in time for Christmas or so, I would think.


* The only reason I say all this is other people had shared the info previously, so it makes sense for roughly that time line.  If you are not a Koston fan, it is simple enough to use paint stripper on the graphic and you have the plain trucks too.  All the V8 trucks are said to have the light blue bushings, so they would be the same truck regardless, just a little less paint and maybe six to eight months later.

I haven’t seen it in any catalogs, but the Fall Drop 1 catalog made the regular V8 a staple, which is a good indication that the V8 baseplates are going to stay in the lineup as long as people buy them. Also, Nikolai Piombo said in an interview that he wanted his signature ones to be V8, but it was going to be a Koston exclusive for a bit.

Considering he has [non V8] V-Hollows in the summer drop, his next signature truck will probably be V8, but that is going to be a while away. We’ll probably see someone’s signature trucks with the same configuration.

TLDR: Polished V8 becomes a staple starting with the Fall drop and pros dig the V8 baseplates. It’s only a matter of time before there is a V-Hollow V8 set, but it’s probably going to be someone’s signature set.

I’ve mentioned this before in that while I’ll moan about wheelbase, but I won’t kick down and source the right board.  It’s width, manufacturer, brand, price….buy.  Real and April seem to make smaller wb’s…..

Tons of companies make super short WB including DLX with their true fits. Very few Venture pros seem to be on V8 with Koston mostly on Forged plates in most of his footage and photos, but a few limited ones like Nikolai.

As said by others too, I haven't seen any mention of them, but that's not to say it won't happen.

Drilling out forged baseplates is very easy though - drill from the top because of the uneven finish under the forged baseplate, but all I did was mark it out, go carefully and then it worked a treat.  Maybe try on some older ones first if unsure, but overall they drilled out way more easily than I thought, maybe because they are thinner, but in my head I was thinking the metal would be harder to get through.

If you have access to a jig or something, it might be easier bolting them down and drilling from the underside, but I did what I could with what I had here, nothing fancy really.


* Any offset baseplates are easy enough to drill out - cast or forged - usually about 1/4" most comfortably for me, even though it might look a little too close to the other holes.  I know others have used a six hole baseplate as a template, which is 3/8" difference, but I feel like that puts the bolt holes too close to the front, which is where they were originally anyway.

The V8 baseplate is slightly more than 1/4" each but maybe because Venture does have the longest baseplate in the main truck market, it works easily enough, especially with the longest wheelbase on Venture too.

This would be great as the "normal" V8 is heavily on the heavy side.

The initial drip of the v8 caused a stir and people seemed interested but at retail the average consumer seemed confused on what it actually did, and why they might benefit from it. I explain it at the shop and the people who show interest don’t seem to understand wheelbase too well or realize have a longer nose/tail is a benefit.
We still have the kostons left and I only ordered a few sets of each size.

I really wish they’d just sell the V8 baseplate seperate. Ace does there’s seperate and I think that’s cool like maybe I’ll swap to lows next or something idk. Plus I’m old. I like venture but I wanna run hollow hangers cause the whole being old thing. I can’t justify in this economy buying a new set of trucks to combine with my old hangers

I’m confident I’ll eventually reasonably grind through my trucks so I bought them.  I’ll prolly hit up my homie who has a drill press and drill out the forged.  Then I can get use out of the Koston Hangers…. Im confident I can grind through my trucks….

It just seems how DLX is doing it with thunder too, not selling things in parts.  In their defence at least with thunder, they don’t send you parts when they warranty, they send a whole set of trucks usually.

On bushings, I think anything conical makes a difference.

I just got myself some brand new V-light 5.8s for like 30euros randomly on Vinted, (it's less than half the price of a set of V8s, so not too shabby). Now the plan is to drill those forged baseplates and put them on a Polar 1991 Jr I got waiting and hope I find the same shear of joy&motivation I had years ago riding a shaped deck for the first time  :'(.   

(I still have some brand new Kader V-Casts 5.6s I bought a while ago. If I fail miserably at my DIY project I'll put those baseplates on and rock it as it is)

I have a couple of DIY sets on the DLX 8.38 shape, the 14.5 wb comes down a lot, maybe almost too much, but it works well enough, especially on the Venture forged baseplates on that board - 14.0 wb feels comfortable there.

Anyone who either wants a really short wb from a fairly regular length, or a longer wb type board is going to benefit from the V8 option, especially if it has shorter kicks, but even on my own boards, I found just having the back truck in was the happy medium for me, more so than having both trucks in.

Its working well for me on the palace 8.3 board thats like 32 long, super short kicks and 14.81 wheelbase lol. Perfect for v8s.

Anything else, I'm probably gona run them in normal position
