Any pals in Osaka? Might be there for a few weeks over Christmas & NY to look after a friends cat while they go back to the US lol.

How's the city during that time? Is it too cold to skate? Any recommendations for spots to check out, etc...? Being single also curious how it is dating there if anyone can touch on that haha. I'd be coming from Brazil so I'd imagine it's the polar opposite.

I'm here until Wednesday or else I'd say let's grab a beer. I've stayed in the dotonbori/namba area. Right now it's light jacket weather, but I'm from Texas and usually sweat my ass off easily lol. So I've just been running t shirts. We found a small indoor skatepark at the bottom of the "big stepper" mall.... pretty cheap session but hella slippery.. super friendly locals..

Dating... eh lol met a few super cool women. Mostly at bars. Just gotta roll with it. Go to any random bar and see where it goes. My buddy and i went to a karaoke bar and this woman tapped me, "i love hardcore music" i was wearing a power trip t shirt. Went from there. Thought that was pretty cool. Also Met tons of other super friendly tourists...

Have fun. I truly love it here. Sad Its almost over.

Making my second trip to Japan in June of next year. I’ll be there for a couple weeks and I’ll be busy for one week then free for the second week. If you had roughly one free week in Japan and you’d already seen some major sights between Tokyo and Kyoto, what would you get up to? Not sure if I wanna do a deeper dive on Tokyo/other major cities or try to venture out into the countryside but would love to hear y’all’s recommendations

If you havent been to Hokkaido, consider heading up there at least for a few days. You could def spend a week there in the summer no problem. Sapporo is a really cool city, kind of like frontier-ish but Japanese style. Go check out Niseko or Rusutsu if you're into mountain biking at all. Didnt skate when I was there because it was January and snowing 3 feet per day, but I've heard Sapporo and Otaru have spots. Furano area is super pretty. Eat sushi. I thought it was way better up there.

If you're near the dotonbori area, i had probably the best burger I've ever had. That's a bold claim i know being from Texas. It's the freshness and quality ingredients. Crispy French fries. I think they have vegetarian and non beef options too...

I've only been home a little over a week. I'm really missing the 24/7 ramen spots... after a night of drinking a hot bowl of ramen for under 10 bucks... can't beat it.

Unoki in Tokyo?
theres a bank to curb under the railway bridge next to "Tamagawa Marukobashi Green Space Junior Baseball Field"

The Yago skatepark is pretty close. other than that no idea. never been to that side of tokyo.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be a lot of spots in this area. I've explored it a bit before and skated that bank to curb but not seen much else.

Exactly what we did... seemed less stressful. Walked around and if something looked cool we checked it out.

I'm going back in November. I cannot stop thinking of the 24/7 fresh ramen...

I'm actually thinking of going for a month - like potentially mid july- mid august. A lot of people are telling me that it's super hot/humid and raining almost every day during this time. How bad is it really? The timing for around then is much better for me but I could postpone it, need be.

isnt rain season in june?
anyway. i would definitly avoid summer. shits extremely hot and humid. im from a pretty humid coutry by european standards but the tempratures they get there daily is like a once a year thing that would shut my whole country down.
my friends band toured there in august last year amd they were drowning in sweat just walking to a store. they hated it. cant imagine skating in that.

spring and fall are the best times to go.

As someone living here, Disclosed has a good point. It’s a fucking sauna in the summer. Evening and night skating is possible, but fall-spring (if you’re somewhere that doesn’t get snow) is the best.

There are a lot of parks getting built nowadays, and there are pockets all around with some great scenes.

I’m in Nagano, and the crossover skate/snowboard culture is strong. Some street in the cities, but a decent amount of parks (indoor and outdoor) with some pockets of DIY projects too.
I’m trying to be every mom’s favorite skater’-&&

Having been multiple times, normally in the spring, I will say the one time I went in August was miserable with the heat. Nonstop sweat, honestly felt embarrassing. I can't imagine skating in the summer. I would only recommend summer if you want to catch summer festivals, or if it is the only time your schedule permits you to go. I'd try to wait until late September or October if possible.

I live in Brazil and will be visiting friends/fam in the US during July - mostly in NYC. NYC is actually the fastest connection to Japan from where I'm at here which is why I was thinking of doing it then. July/August is like dead of winter here in Brazil so it's like 20ish during the day, 10 at night, but nowhere has heating so also a little brutal.

Anyway, I'm from MS and it can be like 40c and super humid there during the summer. I've been to Thailand, South Korea, and China during the summer which was brutal - always drenched from skating. I guess I'll see how I can sort it.

Been here in Tokyo 5 days so far. Extending my trip to the end of June. Nice respite from Australia where everyone yells just to speak to each other lol. As an introverted type, it's a welcome change. I'm still getting used to not having to be so hyper vigilant all the time.

I've never made it to Japan, some day.
My friend Mark Litchfields,  Father David used to live in Japan .
I remember when they'd come back to Calgary, Mark would be showing me spots in Japan, all I remember is marble.
Japan, I love you guys , I'm going to make there eventually.
I skated with Shin Okada , so much pop , one of the best ever on a skateboard n as a human being as well .

anyone ever spent time in kitakyushu? Skate spots, stuff to see? looks like the palace team went to fukoaka which is a close neighbor.

We heard kitakyushu has a pretty heavy yakuza influence and there isn't much skateboarding. We also heard that it's more like a college town. Anyone got any insight?
