I'm back to skating Ipaths. More and more I just do not want to look down at my feet and see a swoosh or an N. No judgment in that it has just become my preference.
My foot loves the cats. And also areth

Can anyone who has had both the nb 440 wide and the asics japan pro chime in on whether the asics japan pro is wider in the toe box. The nb 440 barely work for me.

440 wides are pretty snug on my foot, but Japan Pros fit hreat, nice and roomy in the toe box, higher volume.

440 wides aren’t wide at all. I just ordered a pair. I‘ll have to send it back

If you are looking for a wider NB I would get the Jamie Foys. I am currently skating those. They aren’t super wide (I don’t want to get yelled at again), but they stretch out and have a decently wide and round toe box.

i can second that the japan pro is wider than wide 440 but it's not a wide toe box at all. it's also a very pointy toe and lots of extra space in front of toes. Like it's a bit less wide than an Es Accel and then it also extends further and pointier in front of the toes

Thank you for all the responses! I think I’ll try the asics japan pro as all I need is a little more than the 440 wides

A lot of skate shoes have a wide toe box. For me I find the issue is in the arch. The majority of skate shoes have aggressive cut outs in that area. Take the dunk for instance. Plenty of room in the forefoot but a torture chamber in the arch:

For flat footed wide footed people there is nothing better than es. Just look at the bottom of the Rogers’ shoe:

I know that the Rogers is going to fit my Sasquatch feet w/o even trying them on. The dunks hurt so bad I had to use two insoles to get above the rubber bumper.

I agree that's why I fux with the Jordan 1

Just got some lightly used Air Max Ishods and some Leos

The Ishods fit like a normal tight/narrow/tippy skate shoe and I'll maybe sell them or put a thinner insole in.. But the Leos are very nice and wide, remind of Jordan 1s.

I wear an 8 EEEE in like, Red Wing / White's boots... 8.5 or 9 4E in NB 993s

The size 41 wide/normal Birkenstocks are pretty much the exact shape of my foot

I get most my skate shoes in a 9, I used to get some 8.5s. I think I'm gonna stick to 9s. Lil extra toe space. With most skate shoes my feet billow over the side and I lose stability, and also wear a hole in the side super fast. I've broken my foot a couple times in the past from my ankle rolling over, funny my ankle has never been sprained but it's always just the outside of my foot that gets cracked

So if you're like a 3E or 4E the Nike SB Leos and Jordan 1s work for me in a half size/full size up. Of all the shoes I've tested in the last couple years, the widest ones I've tried were NB 1010s, Jordan 1s, and now these Leo Baker shoes

Not craaaazy wide but *just* wide enough for me

I want to try some Cats and lrab cm002s

Has anyone ever tried the Birkenstock sneakers? It looks like they have a wide toebox

i did and they were super great skate shoes except for one issue. The suede was super nice and lasted better than any skate shoe. They were comfortable, felt great skating etc. The toe box was a little narrow for me but good enough for skating and I liked the arch support. The thing I don't like about Splays and other wide toe box shoes is that they always go hand in hand with a minimalist bottom, whereas I really want like a Splay toe box with like a new balance 1010 underfoot. So the Birkenstocks felt really good for me

The one issue, and unfortunately it is a critical issue, is that the bottom is an extremely soft rubber made for comfort not a hard/durable material. It gets tore up extremely fast by grip tape and even the ground.

this was after about 3 weeks and during a time when i was skating less than normal. After this large chunks started falling off. They were unwearable within a week

Thank you for this review! I will try them on at my local Birkenstock Store and I will keep in mind that the sole is not really made for skating.

So those Nike Leo shoes are definitely wider than the average skate shoe but not as wide as Jordan 1s

They're really floppy though and super grippy, they feel like an old broken in vans Pro classic sk8-hi but wider

Might work for some people

I A to B'd them against Jordan 1s and the j's were way more supportive and comfortable while still keeping great board feel... And I can't just completely taco the sole in any direction

I figure if you used to like the sk8-hi Pros, the Leos in the same size are a great alternative and even slightly wider and more comfy. I used to p much only use sk8-hi pros but when they changed em to the "skate" line, I couldn't even get my foot in them anymore

8.5 3E foot in a 9 and they're great.. defo still not a shoe for like a 5E foot

The new suede splays seem like the top tier option right now for that

I have noticed that New Balance currently has the 480, the 547   Vulc and the 440 in “wide“ (2E). All of them are already wider skate shoes.

I have tried on the 547 vulcs in wide. They are indeed a relatively wide skate shoe. I had to send them back, though. It was to large for me. Don’t size up. They fit true to size it seems.
[close]

nah this thread is for width well beyond that. those shoes aren't really even that wide among skate shoes. es accels are wider and many others. and NB employees admitted the wide sizes are fake, they just take one size up and relabel it as wide
[close]

Is that really true? @rothdigga ?
[close]

I dug up the post from the NB thread on this. They don't actually make a "wider" sole, they just use a size up and adapt the rest of the shoe. Note that this post was deleted so the situation may be different now. But it certainly matched my experience of getting the 480 wide 2e.

Elsewhere in the thread rothdigga says you're only getting 2mm wider or so usually by getting a 2E.

It would be sick if they made some 4E or really stepped out and made a wide toebox shoe, but i'm not holding my breath. I think the wide NBs are a step in the right direction, but they're not what we're looking for in this thread.

they need to rework what a wide is. i'm not convinced a 12 wide isn't just a relabeled 12.5 or 13
[close]
Lol that sounds hella dumb. Especially since they make wides in their other divisions and in the numeric line as well.
[close]
he's actually half right believe it or not. not mislabel but built on 1/2 size up sole.

Can Mr Roth or someone explain how the shape of the wides work, are the soles different? More material?

Did anyone notice the latest white 480 on new balance is offered in a wide??? Curious if that is in the heel? Or forefoot.
[close]

Curious about this too.  I find the toebox to be good in the normal 480, but the midfoot is a little narrow.
[close]
[close]
So with wides, we generally use a 1/2 size larger sole to accommodate the 2E last size and then adjust patterns so that the wide version looks visually as close to the standard width as possible. The last, just to explain it, is the form/mold that the shoe is built around, looks like a blobby version of a foot. Just wanted to explain in case someone didn't know what I was referring to.

I have seen a comparison on youtube  where a dude compares the NB 933 Reynolds Regular vs EE and the only difference was the volume of the toe box. Not the width or length. Call it a tall then not a wide.

I have horrible foot problems…..And the Japan pro’s have been my new go to shoe. All the wide new balances got sloppy quick. The es accel slims were great too. The asics seem like a much better shoe overall.

Reading back some of this thread, I noticed some good experiences with Lems shoes and while I was browsing their options, I couldn’t help but notice they have a sho called the Thrasher. Except it’s the Trail Thrasher. It actually looks like a normal basketball inspired skate shoe except the blocky trail tread on it. If they just make a Street Thrasher, we could have a winner. Then I could have a winner if they make a mid/high version of it.

I've really wanted to try a few of their models it's just they're all soooo expensive. There's a couple YouTubers that skate the Chukka but you have to get the hard rubber bottom version otherwise the soft bottom gets tore up really fast.

Yeah, it would suck to pay $150 or more for a shoe that doesn't last. Why this gotta be so hard?

Ok, those look legit but price is ridiculous. These Barefoot shoe companies be trollin since they know hey have a niche product that they can jack the price up for or the economies of scale doesn't work since most people don't know about or don't care about barefoot style shoes.

Every CEO who decides not to make sizes larger than 13 should be made to wear shoes two sizes too small.

Brother man, even 13 is a stretch for a lot of them, shit usually peaks at 12. I guess the skateboarding demographic is basically petite hobbit feet.

Not sure if it’s true for the bigger skate shoe brands but we’re talking about a very small niche within a niche type of shoe so it’s not surprising they don’t have a wider range for yet another niche within those. Once more people become aware of the benefits and start buying more barefoot style shoes, that will likely change.

Yeah, no, I was talking for all the brands, not just barefoot/footshape shoes.

Big brands (adi, swoosh, nb...even vans occasionally) are much better with this, which is understandable since they can afford larger runs and orders, while smaller brands have to skimp and cut corners.

thanks just picked up a pair of these off of this rec.  I have a very wide foot (I think) and this was one of the most comfortable out of box first days I've had.  been skating dunks/480s the past couple years, haven't skated these yet but i already feel like ill be getting more

After following wyde on instagram I have been bombarded with ads for barefoot sneakers. Has anyone tried to skate bareberics sneakers? They are cheaper than wyde and are a legit company according to some quick research. The only criticism I have read is that their soles are a bit to thick for barefoot shoes, which would actually be great for use as a skate shoe.

These would be good to skate I think:

I like this model, but it would need some shoe goo to be skateable I think:
