What’s 2mm between friends? Smiths over at Timefactors do a nice explorer homage but I would go with their rendition of a Commando.

I‘ve looked into the smiths as well, i‘m torn by it.

I really appreciate all the looks (the commando as well as the everest/explorer models). Yet i‘ve read horrible reviews concerning quality and customer service.

Also i‘m not sure how i like them using the name „smiths“. The original smiths brand was the watch that was on the wrists of hillary and norgay when the summited everest (not a rolex explorer how rolex tried to tell us for years). And somehow i don‘t like how a micro brand tries to make use of that legacy.

The dials look sick tough.

Good to know about the quality issues with Smiths - I’ve pondered getting one for a while but that’s put me off - I’m not really a big fan of homage watches anyway.

Just back from my travels in Oz - and taking the MoonSwatch worked out great - not having to take your watch off passing through security/ metal detectors was one less thing to worry about.

Man the skateparks in Western Australia are insanely good - brand new ones popping up everywhere.

Smiths’ customer service always gets really terrible reviews so I always use my money elsewhere, I feel like at least in the vintage market you can get some great deals on stuff for the same price, my CWC for example cost me less than 500 usd; it’s from 1976, is true mil-spec and it’s not a replica or a homage.

Probably not ready to go for it, but have had my eye on a speedy reduced since you mentioned it on here like a year ago. Feel free to hit me in the dm's, do you have the original bracelet?

@artskool dm-ed you son! Easier if I can just send pics/ vids via insta tho so hit me up if you have an account!

@baggy spandex hamilton is finally starting to get it together with their sizing I feel, good to see they have lots of sun 40mm options. The initial murph was just way too big for most wrists!

Saw there is a northface/supreme/g-shock watch coming.

The watch I bought off ebay died after one day. It winds up but the arms don't move. The dude did send me one of the "Russian warship, go fuck yourself" stamps thou so not gonna complain. Can only imagine how hard this winter is gonna be over there.

If there's one thing I've learned from browsing through this thread, it's that GISM never wastes a chance to mention that most watches should be smaller.
haha, underrated (and mostly true) post! It's honestly something I wish I learnt earlier though, it would have saved me a lot of money/ time.
people get in heated online discussions about how anything sub 40mm is a womens' watch, but they fail to realize that something like an air king was actually considered big at the time. Air kings and explorers et. al. have also stood the test of time with their dimensions; no one is ever going to look at an explorer and write if off as a girls watch. I cannot say the same of big watches, they will definitely look dated in years to come.
By all means, explore and enjoy what you like in the world of watches, but classic designs and sizes will never go out of style and once your eyes and wrist start to adjust to smaller watches, it's really hard to even go back above 38mm cases. My speedy reduced is as big as I would go these days...

Hey I’m fully committed to sub 40mm watches - I have skinny wrists so 34 or 36 works for me. But having said that, my Tudor was being serviced so I broke out my enormous Seiko ‘Turtle’ for a few weeks - and it was a pleasure to have such a legible dial to look down on…..my eye sight ain’t great so it makes sense to wear a bigger watch. But generally I don’t like big watches……

I thought there was a bunch of places that made those connectors so you could nato up your g-shock?

I've been monitoring my local offerup seiko listings. Pepsi divers are so sexy but there's a guy selling a beater 6106-7097 that I've had my eye on

try on a lot of watches before you buy, look at the lug to lug when it’s on your wrist (it’s like wheelbase on a skateboard), is it hanging over? It shouldn’t be…
My SKX013 is actually a SKX015 with a black bezel and I have the original Pepsi one which has now faded the red has turned a nice shade of pink, not quite #ghostbezel status but it’s getting there, very similar to the pic ↓

https://www.instagram.com/p/CEEAl8cDtGc/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

There’s a lot of value in vintage Seiko too for that 6106 you’re looking at, vintage models can be a tad sensitive though so make sure you’ve got a good watchmaker locally should it need some attention.

Yeah there is plenty around. But they are all made of plastic/resin.

Since the GMW-B5000 is fully stainless steel i‘m looking for staineless steel ones.

I only found one chinese seller on ebay. I bought them i‘ll show you how that turns out

Thanks for the tips gism. I wear a lot of vintage clothes and have a smaller wrist so I'm obviously very partial to smaller watch faces and vintage styles. I've already got a gold seiko dress watch, I just need a silver one since I wear mostly silver rings and have silver piercings

I just realized tissot released a 35mm prx automatic

https://www.tissotwatches.com/de-at/t9312074133600.html

Its marked towards ladies, yet it would be so sick if they came up with a wider range of more prx automatic models in 35mm.

Maybe similar like the oyster perpetual models…

Also has anybody seen the citizen tsuyosa models in person? These things look sick…

@DaleSr yes, I get matching the watch to the accessories. If you have a mix of gold and silver accessories you can also rock two tone watches for ultimate steeze. The best vintage Seiko I ever owned was this guy:

yes to tissot bringing those bad boys out in 35mm, they must have someone with a brain working for them. I think they also now have a (quartz) 36mm diver too!

Real confession time though, Tissot does absolutely nothing for me … and it kinda weirds me out because people go nuts over them, not sure what I’m missing.

Haven’t seen those new citizens yet, they must be pushing them more on the o/s market as opposed to domestic…

Found myself trawling eBay for Bulova ‘devil divers’ named after their 666ft depth rating. That led me to ‘Sea Hunter’ skin divers……and I thought I was over the vintage watch thing.

And lastly I noticed Yema do a lovely retro inspired dive watch, the ‘Pearl Diver’.

There is a theme going on here as my son is named Hunter and my daughter is Pearl.
