I’m starting to warm up to it, but out of curiosity, I hit up my local music store and sat down with a bunch of different guitars to get a feel for other options.
Not a huge fan of the nearly raw feeling satin finish on most cheap Squier necks. Tried the Jag and Cyclone, and I think I’m not just an offset guy. Les Pauls and Gretschs are quality, but maybe a little too beefy and heavy for my tastes. Oddly enough, I did like how the ES-339 felt, like the heft was fitting for the size but not too much. Tried the newer Affinity Jr Strat which is a 7/8 scale, and the neck felt really good but body just a touch too small.
Picked up a Fender Player Series Strat, and I’m sure it sounds great, but it didn’t feel $1100cad great. The one guitar that instantly felt right? Squier Classic Vibe 60’s Strat. I’m not even partial to glossy necks, but it just felt cozy all around. If I can trade or sell the JM, that’s probably what I’m going for.
