Anybody know if the FA logo embossed decks (or any embossed) means that it has a slick bottom? I’m contemplating an FA but want a slick bottom

Not a slick. Just embossed wood. Fun decks tho. I keep going back to them.

FWIW, the Metal Fred Gall deck (8.5") feels A LOT like a Hockey deck. I know Fred was skating FA/Hockey stuff for a minute and did that guest board with them. It's a fantastic deck. Feel amazing and you can really sit on nose slides. I run Indy 159s with 56mm/95a Slimeballs. Perfect crust setup.

I'll try to add a photo of the one I have on ice so you can get a good view of the nose.

Per a Metal Instagram post: "[T]he shape was designed by Fred based off his favorite shovel nose board."

Just killed my 8.38 Hockey so I downsized to a 8.25 FA embossed. Love the shape and short WB

I've skated a few embossed decks, they do slide a tiny bit better than regular, until the embossing wears down, then it's business as usual.

What’s the difference in shape between an 8.25 FA and a 8.25 quasi proto ?

What’s the difference in shape between an 8.25 FA and a 8.25 quasi proto ?

I don't seem to have easy access right this minute, but the FA 8.25 board I have seems to be straight through the rail, whereas the Quasi boards I have seen before always seem to have significant taper from front to back, which is fairly common in some brands / woodshops / shapes.

FA being BBS steepish and squared kicks, Quasi being PS Stix so big steep nose and smaller not so steep tail.

https://www.tactics.com/quasi-skateboards/proto-fade-825-skateboard-deck/yellow-pink

SPECS
SIZE   8.25
LENGTH (IN):   32.125   * 31.8 when measured straight across
WHEELBASE (IN):   14.25
NOSE (IN):   6.875
TAIL (IN):   6.5

Random FA board from their site:

https://faworldentertainment.com/en-au/collections/boards/products/jake-anderson-class-photo

.25" x 31.79"
14.12" Wheel Base

FA boards have a shorter wheelbase, so longer kicks for almost the same overall length, with steeper kicks.

There are pics on both those links too, so it is easy enough to check those, but here are the side by side comparison pics anyway.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

If you are used to BBS then PSTIX is going to throw you off your game. I prefer PSTIX but I don’t flip my board anymore.

I have been really liking Snack decks. They have really square noses.

Wow, that looks nasty. How does the tail compare to FA/Hockey in terms of length/steepness? Found some of the older models listed with 6.5 tails but no info on these super square ones.

I haven’t had the super square one. But when I compare my snack deck to a shovel hockey deck they don’t look too different. Without standing on one the hockey deck it seems to have steeper kicks and mellower concave, but I really don’t want to make a claim cause I never rode a hockey deck.

Thanks for the links I been out the game a while, and haven’t heard of snacks before. They had a few 8 and 8.12 for 28 bucks I just stocked up!

I did a comparison of Manderson board to something else not too long ago, but looking at GX1000 boards, they don't seem that square or full in shape.

The other thing is some are PS Stix and some are BBS so there is that to make sure, when you are looking.

Tactics have the top pics, so there are some of each on there:

https://www.tactics.com/gx1000/og-logo-85-skateboard-deck/black
BBS

https://www.tactics.com/gx1000/greene-burning-breath-85-skateboard-deck
PS Stix

The other post here with Manderson board:

https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=120185.msg4193701#msg4193701

Although I don't recall seeing any GX1000 in person recently, I do have a Manderson board, which is very blunt and squared off in kicks, this one crazy steep, but as per all DLX boards, look for a I or II stamped top (steeper / top of the press), not a III or IV stamp top (not as steep / bottom of the press).

The GX1000 site also has the same info, good pics, info on which woodshop used, etc.

Guys pls recommend a 8.25 deck similar to alien workshop. I like the long tail, the concave and everything, it could be a tad bit shorter.

Doesn’t need to be that Squarish. I don’t care.

All out of ideas, besides the DLX 8.25 Full SE shape, of which there should be some out again soon anyway, but in the mean time, the Manderson seems to be the easiest to get hold of and is not that much bigger anyway.

Usually available everywhere, is out every drop, so not too hard to get hold of, maybe some questionable graphics from time to time, but you can always paint over, or sticker up a board, or just skate it on something rough and don't have to deal with the graphic anyway.

Size   8.38
Width (in):   8.38
Length (in):   32.0
Wheelbase (in):   14.25
Nose Length (in):   6.9
Tail Length (in):   6.68

Nice!

I knew they were coming out from the pre book info, but hadn't seen any around as yet.

So yes, for anyone wanting an 8.25 Full SE shape, there they are.

Tactics has incorrect info on their dimensions though, unless these boards are significantly different in dimensions now, otherwise they would be like this:
