I think that shit is fucking hideous. All of it. the best at something in the eyes of some judges? Who are these judges? Clown like behavior. Letting others tell you someone is better then you. That’s the perversion of it all. Pure skate board fun is when you do skateboarding. It’s not any of the other parasitic nonsense that attaches itself to that act.

I 100% agree, on both fronts.  Arguing about whether or not the toy we all play with is a toy is silly and should stop.

I also never really got contests, because it's really all subjective.  High ollie contests and the like I get, because it's clearly x is better than y because the measurable number was bigger.  But saying whether a kickflip to feeble or a heelflip to smith is better than the other seems to not only miss the point, but it in itself is pointless because it depends on the person.

Then again I've never been big on playing SKATE either, I would rather just skate with friends and have a good time than make it into a contest.

They could judge it by how loud is the sound people make when the see the tricks, nothing more objective than that.

i dont know if this is unpopular but i have so much respect for Shane O'Neil.  dude has every right to just slip into the background, grab a martini and enjoy running what must be turning into an extremely profitable multinational company.  but instead he's out there more than ever.  he's getting into the shit at Copenhagen, bringing it a the contest scene, and skating with his team every fucking day.  on the flip side he could easily choose to be the franchise player for April or be all up in the videos but the only time he falls into the background is when someone on his team is getting their shine.

I wouldn't say really well. When covid hit hard and they pulled all the rims down from my local basketball  Courts because of covid and I took to skating as my main form of exercise I actually gained weight.
