The Scrape Report
« on: February 21, 2021, 10:05:47 AM »
anyone else fixated on how your paint scrapes off your board?  i find myself flipping my board over constantly to see how the slide marks are coming in.  i can't be the only one, can I?

as you can see, I'm pretty heavy on the slappy noseslides.  its my lil warmup before my legs will let me ollie, so a dozen or so when i first get to the park.

the tail is pretty messy.  i'm trying to re-learn back tails, and i'm still being a pussy and not committing, as shown by all the 45 degree marks

i tried to keep the "forbidden 14" intact, but couldn't resist a few lipslides

Going from the serenity of regular front nose marks to the insane scars of those from slappy noseslides really set me off, so I relate

My tailslides suck, I can get up there but I'm lucky to slide a foot before my muscle memory just turns me back out. I'll occasionally ride it backwards and do some longass noseslaps on the tail just to make it look more balanced.

I relate to this on a spiritual level.
Well I have like 9 Andy Anderson dated flight decks.

No I can’t tailslide :( but I just learned switch slappy noseslides (kind of as a joke, to myself, as I bemoaned my shitty frontside tail marks.) But they’re fun! I made a promise I was going to F14 my past two decks but I keep blowing it.

My tailslides typically fade out quickly too because I never lock in correctly. I just do 5-0 to tailslides to keep my morale up. I tried to find a picture but I usually only take them when the deck is fresh.

I love this thread! I’m the same way, constantly always looking at the marks on my board and trucks. Kinda hard to see because it’s a blank, but there’s enough transfer wax/dirt to get an idea. Board is an 8.38 prime blank, definitely on its last legs.

I feel like this little piece of history is a good way to show how my boards used to wear.

Hardly been anywhere since covid besides my ramp, so there is almost no wear at all on most of my current setups.

Excuse the poor collage. Some recent boards before and after that I remembered to take pics of.
Usually try enforce the forbidden 14, but after a few accidental violations its open season. I do like smith grind marks on the side though.

The forbidden 14 = so good!

Yeah it was funny when that was a thing, even with some people getting so pissed that someone else scratched the middle of their board on purpose when they weren't looking.

I’m torn.  On the one hand, I get the aesthetic appeal of the Forbidden 14.  On the other hand, I still think boardslides on ledges look cool a la Chico Brenes in the Love Child video.  Or, Tony Hawk’s street part in Ravers.  I think he did a handful.  Used to be a thing.

Oh yeah board/lipslide variations are so fun and look perfectly great. Its just a matter of how it makes your board looks if you care about that at all. My go to spots don't have anything thats super fun to do board/lipslides on anyway but its always tempting. I'll usually try go at least the first week without doing them though.

Top middle is end of life board, lots of front board bonks on the end of ledges and curbs.

Bottom is recent deck, some shitty marks from missing a few things on the end of ledge

I feel this! forbidden 14 is usually adhered too but yeah sometimes I'll do nollie bs disasters on the little quarter pipe at the skate park and once it gets going, I might start hitting the flat bar

Haha, I remember he eviscerated some poor ding dong that floated in here and posted a setup with really gross slide marks.  I believe he told them they should be ashamed of themselves, haha.

But yeah I’m a total freak about that stuff.  I have to immediately get some nose and tail slide marks on a new deck and I am constantly checking the bottom of my board out.

I’m super sensitive about my tailslide marks too: I get bummed if I see a bunch of 45 degree angles and swirlies on the tail.  If I’m lucky enough to have some nice laser beams along the baseplate, my whole body feels like the tip of a penis and the world is one big microwaved fifi.  I’ve never been good at them, so evidence of some nice ones are like a little badge of honor.

This is all super petty and vain, but whatever.  You all get it.

Thanks! My favorite trick, trying to hold them for more than a couple inches while still coming out clean.
