Really liking Hockey/FA 8.18 shape. 8.18x31.73/14wb

Love me a good bathroom floor board shot.

Shape looks good too.

I’m short so I’ve been looking for more boards that are sub 32” in length and 14” wb. Been skating the WKND 8.0x31.5x14 “BP” shape and I really like it. Gonna be on the look out for those boards. I also have a Hockey 8.18 in reserve that I’m excited to try, but it is noticeably longer. I’m trying to spend less on skate shit this year tho.

Short legs here too. Some of the April decks are below 32" in length with 14" wb. I am looking forward to setting mine up. Feels like cheating after almost 3 years of dlx lol

Those Full SE versions should be around and might become a bit more common, but for now, I would say if you find something that works, get a few of them, as who knows when more are going to turn up.

Shortages seem to be happening again for some things.

I only skate dlx 8.12 × 31.3 shape with 14" wb. Best out there.
[close]

what trucks n wheel size?
[close]

More importantly, how tall? 31.3"? FFS.
[close]

I love 31.3” length. I’m short, 5’8”, short legs for my height as well.

That dlx shape was good, I feel like Julien’s graphics, and sometimes Drehobl’s (so like the 2 best dudes) were on that shape. I very rarely see it anymore. As a side note, dlx has been jamming, catching up on product, to keep us all skating, but the boards have been a little.....boring lately. Maybe it’s just me. Probably. Still the best tho.
Thanks for all the ideas.
[close]

i think the recent Real team oval red is that shape

This might be my next board. I'm also five foot eight, but my legs are relatively long and my shoulders are a bit broad so I'm not sure if the 31.3 length will suit me. Regardless, might be worth a try.

Also reading through this thread has made me second-guess myself about my next set of trucks. Thinking to pair an 8.0" - 8.125" by 31.3" - 31.625" by 14" board with some 139 Indy hollows, but a lot of you prefer Venture in that combo. Thing is, I can't skate Ventures very well.

Honestly, I'm still jonesing to try out the "lightest setup" experiment. I had a light setup back in late 2020 and it felt really good, so...hopefully I can find a light 14 wb board because that's the wb I prefer, like all y'all.

I don’t skate indys, because imma weirdo that has always kinda hated on independent, as a company/vibe, but I skate 139s good, and they really are a well designed component.
I wouldn’t get too hung up in the matching of wb, to certain trucks and so forth. I think there is more information there, information that I don’t yet possess, that makes the setup work, than just this wb to this truck brand, etc.
I’ve skate 14wb, with aces (so smaller wb, with trucks that have a, if not the, smallest effective wb, and loved it.
I skate ventures, almost exclusively, and prefer them on smaller wb boards. I prefer wb less than 14 these days, but that’s difficult, and honestly to weird for me to recommend to most people (most folks are happy in the middle, good for them, skipping around enjoying their 14.25 to whatever wb’s).
If I was you, getting a smaller board, in length and wb, and I’d probably consider sticking with the same trucks I’d been riding, 139s would be great on the dimensions you mentioned: shorter boards=shorter kicks, ventures can make the nose and tail feel even shorter…more bs for the witches brew I guess.
I really like short boards. That stops at 31”, and if I’m totally true, 31.25” is great, 31.5” is ok. The length is an underrated measurement. Shit might feel weird at first, but kickflips and 360 flips on a shorter board are the shit. Ramps and going fast can be hectic, but I steer clear of that shit

Just picked up a Girl Malto G052 to replace an April 8.25. The April was great. Super mellow and responsive. The G052 shape is almost the exactly the same but it’s slightly shorter and it has a little bit steeper tail and nose. It still feels mellow overall, but the slightly steeper tail and nose makes the manual point feel better to me. There’s more room before it tips. It’s a nice shape.

Man, I am looking at that G052 shape really often. What do you think about the nose and tail length? That's what holding me back to try one. Tail is 6.8 and Nose is 6.875 but with a 14 wb.

I have a fat stack of boards on ice, but I wanted to know what brands out there make 8" decks with 14" wb. Preferably on bbs wood. I also don't mind 8.125" as an option as well.

Nowadays, it seems pretty easy to find 8.25" decks with 14", but a lot of 8" decks typically have 14.25" wb

I don't really see any here in Australia, and info on them is a bit patchy, even when trying to look everything up, as some are Pennswood and some / more seem to be Control (Made in Canada sticker).

Maybe check with the shop selling the board.

The only place that still shows as in stock doesn't have an 8.5 but they list all the specs and they are said to be 14.0 wb on all.

I’m skating the g027 right now, and it is the best flicking board I’ve had in a long time. It has a shorter nose than tail. I’m skating thunder 147 on it.The wood seems good, and I’m really hyped on it.
I had one of the ps stix g052’s over the summer, but I don’t even think the dimensions were a true g052 as the tail on mine measured only 6.5. It was a great and light board though, and I liked that one as well but am definately loving the g027 more

April 8 has 14.0 wb (at least one of them does, that is)

Frog shows one 8 with 14 wb

Real Full SE 8 is one of the few DLX boards with 14.0 wb

Zero Vines 8

Evisen shows as 14 wb on an 8 but not BBS

Girl Geering one off

Studio is on Control which is fairly similar concave

Uma Maite shaped deck shows 14 wb but I only put it on the list in case anyone wanted something a little different.

Others from a local shop I usually check include Dwindle brands, Skate Mental, FA and Hockey, Free Dome, Alien Workshop and Habitat, among others.

More than I thought though.

Yeah it looks like it would work well.

More just skimming over all the boards (and there were a lot) with those dimensions and that one surprised me as it was not a cruiser or a coffee run type of setup like some smaller "fun shaped" boards but actually looked quite functional as well.

I recall when some boards would come out with shovel noses or squared off tails (even before Welcome came out with all those weird shapes) and some people would take to them, but others would always have that kind of weird look on their faces, like they just heard a joke but didn't get it.

It is unique enough to make it interesting.

Thanks you guys, I had thought they were 14 from pennswood but their website currently says 14.25 so I was a bit confused. I DM'd to confirm and I'll report back.

14.25 is not bad, but I really like 14 the best!

Just read this now, thanks mang! I was thinking Thunder titanium lights as well...would be nice to actually try out different setups. 31.31.25" might be too short for me, I skated a Habitat like that and it didn't work out...maybe, though...

Just read this now, thanks mang! I was thinking Thunder titanium lights as well...would be nice to actually try out different setups. 31.31.25" might be too short for me, I skated a Habitat like that and it didn't work out...maybe, though...

Yeah well disregard all of my rambling! And the grammar! Jesus. I was really out there.
Anyways. You wrote, clearly that you have long legs and broad shoulders. I have stumps. So I like short boards, small wb’s. I think a big reason for me liking these smaller setups is that was what was in at the time I did my best, and also, I’m short as hell.
You could like a short board, with your long legs, or not.

I like it a lot! I’m 6’2” with a size 12 shoe so the extra room for my feet is welcome. Kind of like a best of both worlds thing for me.

what trucks are you running?

Initially Venture V-Hollow 5.2 Lows but then I put a set of regular Thunder 148s on that I had and I think I them more.

Madness split overlap 8

Others from a local shop I usually check include Dwindle brands, Skate Mental, FA and Hockey, Free Dome, Alien Workshop and Habitat, among others.

More than I thought though.

Thanks for this!

Wanted to get an Evisen, but the „made in China“ made me uncertain. Does it matter if made in China or States /Mexico ?

Do you ride just all shapes as long as it has a short wheelbase or do you prefer full shapes or non full shapes?

You are talking about 2 shapes. The G052 is the Malto shape and the tail is shorter than the nose. Lots of fingers of flat, fuller nose. The G027 is the one with the longer tail and pointier nose.

Referencing the "Made in..." there are always going to be those people who say anything from "XXX" is going to be better than anything from "YYY" or "ZZZ" but the reality is nowdays there could be good and bad products from anywhere and a lot of boards from somewhere that used to have poor quality product are now right up there with many others.

The concave and kicks are the main thing to note, so depending on what you prefer, some woodshops will agree with your choice of concave and kicks more than others.

I personally cannot ride steep anything anymore, especially the tail, but others cannot ride anything mellow or flat feeling, so something that I might recommend for me, might not work for you.

Best thing is to stand on boards, when or where possible, but failing that, at least knowing which woodshop and approximate concaves and feel of kicks definitely helps.

Thx. Will ride my first Hockey deck soon. Pretty exited and wonder if I will like it or not.
I know some people who only ride fa and hockey because of the shape.

had a girl g052 last year and it was my favourite deck of recent times (also pretty surprised with the crail wood since i hadn't have one in 10+ years) good board all around
