I'm a G027 fanatic, anyone skated both that and the 052 and have a preference/can comment on the difference in feel?

I’ve had both G027s and G052s. The G027 feels lighter on flat ground tricks but G052 feels a little better for ledges and rails, but I think they’re almost the same shape.

Just picked up a Girl Malto G052 to replace an April 8.25. The April was great. Super mellow and responsive. The G052 shape is almost the exactly the same but it’s slightly shorter and it has a little bit steeper tail and nose. It still feels mellow overall, but the slightly steeper tail and nose makes the manual point feel better to me. There’s more room before it tips. It’s a nice shape.

Man, I am looking at that G052 shape really often. What do you think about the nose and tail length? That's what holding me back to try one. Tail is 6.8 and Nose is 6.875 but with a 14 wb.

had a girl g052 last year and it was my favourite deck of recent times (also pretty surprised with the crail wood since i hadn't have one in 10+ years) good board all around

I'm really surprised at the G052. It's good enough that I ordered a second and have considered it as my main deck. I would like to try one of the Primitive or April shapes with a 14. Only thing I sorta dislike is that it tapers in the rear and the tail is a bit pointy.

I like it a lot! I’m 6’2” with a size 12 shoe so the extra room for my feet is welcome. Kind of like a best of both worlds thing for me.

You are talking about 2 shapes. The G052 is the Malto shape and the tail is shorter than the nose. Lots of fingers of flat, fuller nose. The G027 is the one with the longer tail and pointier nose.

According to the Crailtap site the G052 has a 6.8 tail and 6.875 nose. The G027 is listed as 6.8 tail and 6.75 nose. While the G052 tail is shorter than its nose, it is the same length as the G027's tail.

Are habitat and AWS decks in your opinion too steep for high ventures? What about quasi? GX? Are those on the steeper side too?

Edit: let’s add madness.

And what tail/nose length do you like best with high ventures ?

I've ridden the 7.75, 7.875, and 8.0 shapes from AWS over the past 4 years and have always paired them with venture lights (and thunder hollows). Not too steep imo.

For tail length, around 6.5 or a little longer works good for me (which is pretty standard iirc). I have more issues with the tail being too short when paired with ventures.

Thanks.

I ride 8 / 8.125/ 8.18

I wonder if I should ride my hockey deck with my new venture highs or old royals 🤷🏻‍♂️

I got a few more new decks here , but all that truck / wheelbase talk really made me crazy. Always thinking about what deck with what trucks etc

Welcome hooter deck 8“ has <14“ wheelbase btw too

I just skated an 8.125 AWS with regular Venture 5.2 his and had no issues. Good setup IMO

Even though I don't really like 8+ boards.. I've seen a few 8.00's that kinda interest me... so ... how are 8" decks with 14" wb? Basically the same? THink these are mostly 8x31.5 with 14"wb. My assumption is that it would feel the same, minus the extra width

I would say yes, similar feel to 7.75 / 7.81 boards only a touch wider, as per when I went to 8" they felt a bit wider but I found I had more room for my feet.

Then I went 8.1 as the shapes were better, and then up again, but that is just me.

The 8" deck with 139s (or similar) trucks and 50 to 52 mm wheels was pretty much the go to for a long time and still is I guess for a lot of people, even though now I think the average is more like 8.25 with 144s (or similar) trucks.

Cool thanks. I'm pondering an 8 (with 139s), I'd probably max out there. 8.25 is too much for me, especially when they're 32+ length too

Kept thinking you were riding more the 8.8 to 9" boards, but that was just those shaped boards then?

With the taper on that Blind reissue it came down a long way at the kicks too.

Yeah I have never had a popsicle over 8.18 the GO18

It doesn't matter too much to me aslong the wheelbase is short
There seems to be a couple of dudes who like lil pops and the big shaped boards

I definitely switch between the two

The Blind came down to about 8.4/8.5 over the back trucks

I didn't think they were actually out yet.

The pic of the board looks pretty much like a normal DLX shape, so I am thinking similar to the normal 8.5 only shorter.

Edit:

Had a look and sure enough quite a few places have them out now (didn't when I had checked the other day) but the best pic of the board is here:

I picked one up. Concave and kicks seem identical to a blue eagle, just with a shorter base.

Always happy to help and it was fun looking for them too.

I am usually a longer wheelbase board (with Indy) guy myself, although I do have most brands of truck too, but if you had to choose a truck for a shorter wheelbase, either of those would work well, as would Thunder and Venture too, which I know many other people ride and recommend.

The latest Ben DeGros video has a good review of the new Royals and AF1 have a pretty good review in general, so I guess it is more a case of pros and cons, price and availability.

If you already had trucks, try what you have on it and go from there.
