I think the other ones that were listed on the website sold out super fast.

It is a pretty cool process though, dipping the deck in a barrel of solution with the paint or something.

Most of the decks dipped like that went to Cockfight skateboards in Texas ( on the last run)

Then this

Not so cool to see they had issues with the woodshop listed below, but their response to that is also listed so you can make up your own mind in that regard.

Another woodshop to add to the list as well.

I also found another guy with boards, again most likely wood from "misc" woodshops, just heat transfers done there.

This post says BBS, but others look different.

Woodshop list updated with some more changes.

A question for everyone:

Do you think there is a need to have shop boards listed separately in here too, or is that going to be too hard to keep updated?

Eg

Active - Anno Domini

Black Market Skates - BBS

Skate Warehouse - Clutch?

Tactics - BBS

Just to name a few that have been talked about recently.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

So i got this hockey deck today and noticed this crack on the top ply going from the tail down to the flat. Looks just like a big stress crack, is that something to worry about?

Havent broke any boards in my two years of skating so im probably just going to grip it and forget about it.

I feel like that sort of thing is really nothing to worry about.

Had a few boards like that over the years and it didn't affect performance at all.

Given there are quality controls in place, some things do get through unnoticed, but I doubt that would give anyone reason enough to pull it from production.

has anyone seen a pennswood pressed primitive board? or was that just a load of shit

so i was talking to a friend of mine who works at primitive and he pretty much summed up the woodshop fiasco as this. i believe this was also explained on a previous page but....

the made in china boards are mostly for their licensed collabs, since they (the licensers) approve where the boards get made. interesting approach.

made in usa = pennswood. supply issues lead them to that.

the made in mexico are straight bbs.

This one popped up on something else and I thought of the 9+ boards but also post in this thread.

Saint Marks, from Sydney, Australia, reminds me a lot of Polar in more than a few ways, which I guess is a plus.

Made in Mexico

(guessing Clutch but could be BBS)

I saw a few Hopps decks yesterday and there was nothing to indicate that they were BBS are people sure they still are? The size stickers had squares with numbers in them, no safety sticker, no made in Mexico sticker, nothing you’d normally see.

Unless they’ve switched it up recently, I think that most all of the domestic/US brands that are under the Theories umbrella are pressed on Clutch wood.
Not 100% on this, but I’m pert near cert the Theories deck I’m currently on is Clutch.
Can anybody authenticate my claim for our friend @LebowskisRug?

The last time I was in my local shop I looked at some of theories new decks and they all were clutch from what I could tell. I'd steer clear of them if it were me, I like The brand's but that wood is not good.

@Mbrimson88 unless anyone has intel specifically to the contrary, I think Chapman should be removed from the list or at least the brands should be asterisk'd. Their woodshop closed a couple years ago and AFAIK they have just been screening graphics on Clutch-pressed boards. I have handled a few recent "Chapman" blanks that were Clutch for sure.

We have new Blood Wizard at the shop and they're Clutch, not BBS. Our Hopps decks aren't BBS either. Just a heads up.
[close]

I am pretty sure it has been posted elsewhere that Theories, Picture Show, and Hopps have been using Clutch to have some of their stuff pressed since COVID. Haven't skated or handled any and cannot confirm.
[close]
The Theories deck I’m currently on def appears to be Clutch based on wood grain & my limited experience w/ Clutch, but I’m not 100% on that.
Y’all be sure to throw a gnar at Brimmo for undertaking this task.
You’re a good egg, @Mbrimson88.

Looking back through with the old explorer search (not the site search) and on the first page there were lots of "Theories" words that came up including your own post, as above.

Safe to say, as per the woodshop list, it was BBS until 2020 and is now Clutch from 2021, as per the third list in alphabetical order.

I guess the first list from woodshop might be a bit more confusing.

Theories* -2020   ……….   ……….   BBS
Theories* 2021   ……….   ……….   Clutch

I am thinking there was a deeper dive into their distro a while back, with some brands still using whatever they were originally on, but more so their own in house brands are on Clutch wood, but I could be mistaken so any corrections needed, please let me know.

Theories, Hopps, Traffic, Picture Show all on Clutch wood now.

Magenta still on BBS, although some was "other" while they were having issues getting the normal supply.

Isle on BBS in USA, HLC in EU

Evisen on Dwindle

Studio on Control

Not a big deal, but I am happy to be done with 2021.

Let's see how 2022 goes.

Can someone school me on Excel wood? I’ve always liked Creature boards and have a few from 2021 in my stack (John Gardner pro debut). How’s the wood? Where is it pressed? Etc. Thanks in advance!

Excel is one of the most prominent and well established operations in China (established in 2004), but more hidden in name and profile than any others, espcially compared to Dwindle, which is the most well known woodshop in China, Dwindle starting in 2002.

They specialised in carbon and "other" materials as well as normal seven ply wood decks, but also do most of the budget completes for many brands now as well, so not just a woodshop but an all round everything type of deal.

I have a box with their address and info on it from pricepoint completes, but even in searches and other things not a whole lot of info comes up about them, which at times is a little frustrating, but they have a significant industry presence and deal with many major suppliers and brands.

As far as their known brands they make, the list is actually quite long, but as they don't have much info out there, combined with some people even asking for their brand info to be removed from under Excel, it comes across as a lot more limited or secret than it actually is.

The wood quality is good, with people liking the boards, so sometimes I don't get why some people are not keen on it being known where they get their boards from, but in saying that, it is definitely different to other woodshops based in Mexico and even noticeably different to Dwindle, although the concave and kicks are more similar to Dwindle than any other manufacturers, the products often being mistaken for one another too.

That is about it for my limited knowledge (or what I am willing to share on a public forum) but if anyone is able to correct me, help me out or anything else, I am also very interested to know more about them too.

I haven't heard of them before, but the first thing I usually do is DM their instagram account if nothing is listed anywhere else on their sites or shop pages.

It is interesting they have the two options for their concaves, eg

(*HC High concave
*MC Medium concave)

Not too many offer the same product in those options, but that might lead somewhere.

Pretty much the whole mid size range too.

On another note, UPS has some pretty good deals on decks right now, all the good brands with significant markdowns.

If you are local, I would say go in and stand on them, then compare them to some others you are more familiar with.

Boards from Rassvet 9 collection available through our stockists worldwide.

9XBET - 8.5 (HC)
999Земель - 8.25 (HC)
Angels - 8.5 (HC)
Peace Pattern - 8.125 (MC)
Earth Peace - 8.375 (MC)
Arrow Sun - Green - 8.125 (MC)
Orange - 8.25 (HC)
Purple - 8.375 (MC)

(*HC High concave

Also saw this with the usual warning sticker of BBS (Made in Mexico on the lower part) from an older board, but they could have easily changed for the newer lot as there don't seem to be any markings on the latest decks out now.

Cheers mate. I’m not in Sydney, but yeah some good deals and that got me curious at something different. There’s suddenly alot of cheap decks around (by Oz standards) so it’s very tempting to stock up if prices are gonna go back to $150+ due to shortage/logistics cost.

All I can say is "Get them while you can" as there is a lot of excess stock around right now, with people expecting to sell a little more but Christmas sales just didn't quite add up, from what I have seen, so many shops are already trying to make a bit more room and sell some product to get through the thin months coming up, which is always the case in the first quarter of each year.

Some woodshops have already experienced shortages, which are often affecting distros, including one significant Australian distributor who has had an absolute struggle to get more boards in, but others seem to be almost overstocked right now.

* Just check UPS shipping info too ($15 flat rate) but it still works out a lot cheaper than RRP on decks.

Is there a thread or some details on smaller independent brands somewhere?
I like to support smaller brands often like Stoned, Felas, various British brands etc. A lot of the brands on this list are fairly well established. I'm looking for small brands to support and wondering where they're made.

The whole list is crowd sourced really, so as people either work out, find out or read it somewhere, they usually add it to the thread, or at least share the information here, so it can get added to the list.

Many smaller brands often don't want to say where they get their wood from, which is kind of funny, but I get it if they don't want to say, you cannot make them.  Same with some woodshops - if they don't want to help update the list, or let it be known who they make boards for, then the only way to work it out is either be told by someone in the know (often someone in the industry, of which there are a lot of people on here, so it would seem) or if someone works it out, be it from the board construction, made in XXX sticker, specific information on the board, packaging or through somewhere like a distributor who puts graphics on boards from a certain woodshop.

On occasion people do ask to have their brand or other woodshop information removed from the list and forum posts too,
so if that happens, the info gets removed and it is up to others to share that info if they want, but it will not be in the main list.

The two best ways to find out are either asking the shop where the board is being sold, or just go directly to the brand and ask them, DM or email and hope that someone who answers knows and is willing to share.

Not the first time someone replied on a brand account with "I don't know" which seemed surprising at first, but then just put me off the brand as it was some random account manager who really had nothing to do with the wood / skateboard side of things.

More often than not, anyone who is using the good wood will be quick to let you know, but I have noticed others who are using wood from an unknown woodshop (usually China) will often say something like "Our boards come from the same place as many other top brands" or similar.  In that case, I just don't buy whatever they are selling.  Pretty simple.

Anyway, I hope this has helped, so if there are any brands NOT already on the list, or are incorrect on the list, please post info if you do hear back from any of them, so it can be added and then help others with questions too.

There are a lot of people all over the world who contribute to this, so more often than not the details will come up for something you are chasing, even if it doesn't stay up or get added to the main list.
