for what it's worth, a lot of normal people aren't equipped to explore the topic of mental health in regards to providing guidance, even with good intentions.

OP, perhaps you could look at it from a group psychology perspective.  Humans are prone to act in some fucked up ways and slap is basically the Stanford prison experiment but with skaters.  You mourn not only slap, but the human condition itself.

Rob, dude, I'm sorry some of the dudes on here take cheap shots at you. I'm sorry you sometimes think I'm coming after you when it is really I disagree with your view on some things, which is very different than not backing you. And, I'm sorry that the cheap shots that have been taken at you negatively color normal discourse and disagreements.

However, a few key things I think might help you and everyone else understand the banter that happens with you is:
1) you come on here and I think most of the dudes appreciate you coming on here. There aren't many dudes who made it into the industry who bother to interact with the rabble. This is going to get people excited.

2) it often seems you play along with it and are part of the banter (and you've taken some shots back...including a few shots at me that I've interpreted as mean)

3) as a public figure you have way more visibility  than anyone else on here. Public figures are going to be criticized way more than normal people. This is a side effect of your position in the industry and not just staying behind the curtain. No one is criticizing Skerto (the TM (former TM?) at Oakley) cause no one knows he exists.

4) and most importantly, you have way more power than anyone else on the board. No one is asking our opinions and no one is promoting them. Our voices don't carry the way yours does. Anything you say off the board is going to have a greater impact than anything anyone says here.

You come down and hang out with the rabble, which is cool. But, remember, we all know no one gives a fuck what we have to say and there is a huge power dynamic here...one you've already won. Don't let it go to your head, but try to remember the power dynamic when interpreting any posts. Your voice matters and no one listens to our shit. No matter how well we say something no one gives a fuck what the rabble thinks.

As someone who is flawed and imperfect but has tried my best to create a space where people can be honest about how much they're suffering & receive love without judgment, it makes me really irked to see people lumping SLAP into a vague complaint about what Sneaks wisely (and with trademark wit) summarized as a parallel to the human condition.

THAT'S a mouthful and I apologize, but let me try and say it simpler.

It's okay to hate certain parts of SLAP. There are trolls & dicks in any community, SLAP or not - online or IRL. But that doesn't mean there AREN'T people who care & people who want to help each other, on the flip side of the same coin.

It's valid & important to criticize harmful behavior, fuck yes it is! But, before you tank the entire ship, consider your target & consider the impressionable people who are getting help from the same community it's convenient enough for you to shit on; let me be clear that SLAP is imperfect. But so are you. So am I.

I don't have a solution here - NO one does. But this shit happens every 2 months at least, and then the people complaining just dip. And meanwhile, the ones really doing the work anonymously most of the time are left to pick up the pieces. There's nothing constructive or radical about shitting on everyone at the same time.

As far as I can tell, if you look at useless wooden toy banter or photos/videos, the majority of the attitudes are going to fall into the liberal progressive side of things. People with conservative views aren't going to be particularly welcomed, especially if they post something that is challenging or argumentative (or trolling), though I understand that many times from their point of view they are trying to call out behavior that they see as wrong. It's an interesting mix where both sides feel their view is the correct one and the other is brainwashed.

But then if you go over to the Shoes and Gear thread, we have the greatest resource on the internet for skateboard gear knowledge and folks are more than happy to help each other out. I have learned so much from that section alone and am super grateful for it. Similarly, the health and wellness thread is very inspiring and helpful.

Ultimately I think it all comes down to reading the room properly and knowing why you're on here and what you want to get out of it.

I've been doing some research lately on family dynamics and roles that are assigned to each member in the family. Why do so many families have a 'Black Sheep' or 'Scapegoat?' What need does that particular position fill? Is it valid?

You are right. As are many others who have commented. I just saw the whole Rob thread and thought WTF. Instead of taking jab back at those I disagreed with, I made this wonderful thread.

I had a bit of rose, and a foul day, then took it out on one of the few places that still makes me chuckle.
