Thrasher Billboards
« on: September 20, 2021, 12:24:21 PM »
Thrasher has a handful of billboards popping up on the 10 freeway in the Coachella Valley. Seems kind of random... like there isn't a whole lot going on in the desert in the summer months. I was thinking that they were targeting that Coachella Fest crowd but that wont be rolling around until April 2022.
Anyways... I'm somewhat disturbed... Thrasher marketing to randoms driving by on the freeway. I've always liked the hard edge persona that was part of the Thrasher image, they were the gatekeepers. Now it seems the gates are open for all to get on the skate culture band wagon.

I'd be pretty hyped if I saw these billboards while i was driving down the highway.

They're better than any other skateboard billboard or large scale ad featuring skating I can remember seeing and it's not really advertising anything cheesy - it's just some cool skate photos.

Nice selection of photos. Much rather see these classic pics on such a massive scale than Ninejah on the NFL commercial I just witnessed.

Of all the things going on in skateboarding to make you feel like that, it's this?

you yankin' everyone's crank with this?

what's it matter to you if johnny no-ollie sees a Thrasher billboard and gets hyped to skate or turns to them for his skate media?

better than most other 'outlets' for skate info/product.

find something better worse to bitch about.

I specifically remember this was a welcome to toy ad also. They photoshopped the graphic out of the photo for a toy graphic. Can't find it now so maybe I'm imagining this...

honestly dont see how this is a big problem lol... Maybe some rando will get hype seeing romero & go buy a mag or sweater... Only puts more money back into skating... I always hate seeing the kid in a fox moto racing hat, monster in hand wearing a big DC shirt with a pair of destroyed vans Chukkas dressing & acting like they skate, but they are putting money back into an industry we all support aswell......

What hard edge ? THIS is when non-skaters start getting on the skate bandwagon ?

Random non-skaters have been wearing Thrasher gear for years my dude. When Rihanna and Bieber were wearing Thrasher, my local shop couldn’t keep up with the Thrasher merch orders and made a bunch of money off of it.

I’d much rather see this than JESUS SAVES billboards everywhere.

it’s true of any leisure industry- the people that sink the most money into goods are the people who are usually the least involved. bike shops sell 5 thousand dollar carbon fiber joints to people who think that’s what you need to be a cyclist the same way a shop will sell a complete, kicks and a full set of pads to me
