What’s the consensus on the ikp version?  Do the kingpins loosen up?  I have a set kicking around I was thinking of setting up.
[close]

I've not noticed mine loosening (some say they have); they have the most threaded/engaged kinpin of the all the IKP so if it does loosen, it's going to take a lot more than the rest before your hanger falls off (which I've never heard happen to anyone here...cuz I assume they just tighten the truck if it gets a little looser?...anyway, mark the hex head and keep track of it if it worries you?

They extra grind clerance is worth it IMO.

After a year or two of sticking with ventures to work on my lack of ability, Royals are just plain fun. I don't like the IKP, I got a RAW 144 instead. I've ridden them quite loose and I can't wait to try them a little tighter. The IKP i'm almost down to the axle in less than a year's use from slappies. Basically on the only decent curb in a KC skatepark, it's not even bolted.

Perfect trucks for riding symmetrically imo. Been helping my switch a lot.
[close]

Having done a lot of back and forth between Vents and royals, once you get the royals dialed (tighter than stock for sure) the magic happens...all the venture goodness with turn vs lean.

btw, why didn't you tighten them over the course of the year that you skated them? if that is what you were after? Maybe I'm not understanding your comment?
I couldn't go any tighter on the IKP threads lol. And the bushings on my new RAWs lasted 1 session before cracking so I bit the bullet and put ace bushings.

Was riding some thunders with bones and got used to the bones bushing feel, swapped to a different board and threw on some BONE Hards (needed two washers on the bottom to match up to stock height). One washer on top.

With the 2 washers on bottom it matches up to stock height; gives them even more of a thunder vibe (but with better stability and no/less wheelbite).

My set comes in today, I’m sure everyone is tired of reading me be elated, but I’m getting back on a normal setup after tearing my ACL, I ditched my previous ace lows (because of bad ju-ju) and picked up some raws and some ace hard bushings, and some x99s to see what the fuss is all about, prolly won’t be doing much in the way of grinding them for a bit but I’m hyped to try something new and do a bunch of Ollie’s in a parking lot

X99s are gonna do goon on your knees. Mine have been sore after a gym incident, and I can skate longer on them without pain.

My indy forged hollows are starting to get old, and I want to change.. What do you honestly think of Royal ? I really want to buy the classic raws version, not the inverted kingpin. I watched the video of Ben Degros saying that it was a good compromise between thunder and indy, is that true ? And I have the impression that these trucks only work with craiptail boards, but maybe that's an idea I got from seeing the guys from Girl/chocolate skate them !

And, is there a feeling of "solid" trucks or rather trucks with a sound that gives a "plastic/acute" effect ? If you know what I mean ! I have the impression that these trucks are underrated, afterward, I'm also afraid of the solidity.. Please enlighten me ahah

At the same time, I'm so attached to the feeling of the Forged Indy that I don't want to change because all my sessions go wonderfully with these trucks  ;D

I am skating DLX Boards (There, Real, Krooked, Anti Hero) and I am soon to be on my third pair of royals.
No idea why they would only work with girl boards  :)

If you don't have anything bad to say about the indies and are happy with them. Don't change :)
I had a short rendezvous with ace trucks because my IKP broke on a trip and I went straight back to royals after a week.

I think the royals are great @FrenchSkater . I have three sets I’ve ridden for different sized boards and they are really a perfect blend of all the trucks imo. I know some people can have issues with the bushings being a little soft, but for me who prefers medium-to-loose they ended up feeling really great.

Not sure what it’s like in EU but here they’re also super affordable, I think it’s definitely worth giving them a shot.

Suggest you read this entire thread as it's all been said already.

My indy forged hollows are starting to get old, and I want to change.. What do you honestly think of Royal ?

They're great. 'Raw' / standard royals are as light as Indy Titaniums (ultra lights are great/super light), turn earlier/better than ventures, faster than Indy, and smoother than thunders.

Your forged indys are 53.5mm tall - Royals are 52mm tall, so 1.5mm difference/lower than what you are used to.

If you look at Venture and Royal, it's clear the royals are based off venture DNA, however, they're very stable like a venture yet turny like indy or ace (not 'like' them but much turnier than Thunder  or Venture). Bushings are soft, depending on how much you weight and how tight/loose you ride you might want to adjust the bushings. The kingpins are just a tad longer than other trucks (not ACE) so you will have a few threads showing with stock bushings; the bottom bushing is taller than most trucks (except ACE) - this is why ACE bushings are literally the 'perfect fit' for Royals. Medium ACE bushings are my suggestion of you are below 180lbs or like a turny truck, likewise, suggest ACE hard bushings if you are over 180lbs or prefer a tighter truck.

I really want to buy the classic raws version, not the inverted kingpin. I watched the video of Ben Degros saying that it was a good compromise between thunder and indy, is that true ?

Pretty much, yes.

And I have the impression that these trucks only work with craiptail boards, but maybe that's an idea I got from seeing the guys from Girl/chocolate skate them !

That's like saying Indy are only good for Creature or Santa Cruz boards...or Thunders are only good on REAL/Krooked/Anti-Hero/There; simply not true.

And, is there a feeling of "solid" trucks or rather trucks with a sound that gives a "plastic/acute" effect ? If you know what I mean ! I have the impression that these trucks are underrated, afterward, I'm also afraid of the solidity.. Please enlighten me ahah

They are very solid, if more 'muted' than thunders.

At the same time, I'm so attached to the feeling of the Forged Indy that I don't want to change because all my sessions go wonderfully with these trucks  ;D

If forged Indy are working for you, stick with them?

If the Indy’s are working for you then stick with them. Royals are great with the ace bushings. When I got mine they only had 144 and they’re great I had fun with them but I think ima go back to Indy simply for the fact that I learned I prefer a 139 for my flip tricks(plus the little height makes a difference). Again tho these are fun you’ll enjoy em for sure but if it ain’t broke…

So my madness has led me here.. should I go raw or light? Going to get 149’s and I normally skate 8.3-8.5 and sometimes 8.25. Going back and fourth between venture and ace and the ace low and I want a middle ground but don’t know if I should get standard or light. Is the light gonna be too light?

Do you normally worry about weight when you ride Venture or ACE?

For ref:

149 royal standards are 353g ea.
149 royal ultras are 326g ea.

AF1 55 396g ea.
AF1 55 ACE hollow 368g ea.
AF1 55 ACE low are 379g ea.

Venture V-HOLLOW Lights High (cast, so 53.5) 5.8 340g ea

Honestly I don’t lol. Light might be nice but there is for sure a limit. Point taken though. Did think I might get a little more height and might be better on the old knees with a little less weight tho

These old legs prefer lighter setups. Royal ultras, to me, are best in class (size) weight. Not too heavy, not too light.

Sheeeiiitt. Thanks for the input. I do like my ace lows but I want a little higher for pop and I NEED something more stable and just can’t get aces to the point I like as a 195 pound guy so I plan on throwing hard bushings in the royals. I respect your option on the matter so I trust ya haha

ACE hards once broken in, paired with royals is some serious voodoo truck perfection (and I've fucked with bushing/truck combos faaaaar to much) - you can use mediums and tighten them up enough, just depends on how loose feeling you want them. You can also use thunder bottoms (same height as stock royal bottoms)/bones bottom with TWO washers under them...losing stabilty the narrower the conical bottom of course.

I’m gonna order some for orchard since it looks like no locals have them, and orchard shipping is pretty quick to MD. I have some used hards I can probably use

Pulled the trigger. Worst case I’ll go back to the ace lows but really don’t want to

I think you will be pleasantly surpirsed with the royals. Especially if you are bouncing around between Vents and ACE. Royals, even  with hard bushings are just a turnier venture (especially at the start of the turn)....

Royals, when you wish your ventures turned sooner, your ACEs were more stable or your thunders wouldn't wheel bite so much (or your plates would actually touch).

little update, got them in two days from orchard. set up and skated for about an hour just trying to break the trucks in. really love the manual on them so far which was something I was worried about from other posters.trucks are very light which is strange feeling coming from a heavy truck. a little higher than the lows has me a little ghost poppy but I went down to a 52 from 53 and that offered some relief. I have a long session coming up on Sunday and im excited to see how they feel in a park with multiple things to skate

Got mine in from a shop out in Florida, really dig that union discount website that one poster started, but yea they’ve been sitting on my coffee table waiting for me to pull the trigger on a deck, I pick them up constantly and am super hyped to get them setup, I’m coming from ace lows so I’m sure there will ad an adjustment period, but I think these are gonna be a good ass truck, I like the way the metal looks and seem harder than aces, which is what I was missing most from switch over from venture to aces, and I’m sure the turn is either on par or better then vents, so I’m excited

Put some 100a Thunder aftermarkets in some 159s I set up on an 8.75" (was riding them on an 8.5" ages ago). Went harder duro to combat the width/more pressure and man, these are awesome like this. Still stable with the harder duro but crazy nimble (much more than when I was running rpyal 144s with Bone hards).

First real session in them yesterday at the new ocean bowl park. Skated for two hours and I’m pretty happy with this. I enjoyed the turn and I could still ride loose but not get a little shake when I bend down to pop which was my hugest issue with ace. Weight is great and they grind similar to ventures to me. Did a pretty good manual that got some audible approval from the park which was nice. Haven’t figured out crooks with them yet but I only tried a few.

Really I’m just happy they stay stable when I’m trying to pop which was the biggest issue I was having.

Super happy with the ultralights

Can anyone confirm what factory Royals are made in? I had a set of those and the new Lurpivs next to one another and I noticed a few similar details- like the kingpin looking almost exactly the same. Not necessarily the same length, but the polish of the metal, # of threads the way the end was faced, etc. and they grind really, really similar to me.

I just set mine up today with my skate warehouse blank and stuff, still can’t figure out how upload photos but I cruised around on them in the front of my house and they feel nice and smooth turn wise, popped a couple Ollie’s can’t wait til I’m able to do some fucking tricks, not heavy, but definitely felt solid, I think I’m gonna like these trucks

Did you get raws or ultras? SW blank...I'm with ya.
