Whenever Ive had foot/ankle problem and need to take time off skating I always end up skating half cabs to get back into it, I guess they are my main "Post Injury" shoe

Fifth eyelet from the bottom.
Middle metal eyelet.

And for no reason at all except these shots are fucking awesome.

Enjoy your life.

Skating in them = done up tight to the top.

Wearing them as slip ons most of the rest of the time, still all laces in same holes, only loosened off with the ends just hanging down a bit but not dragging, but I did have some older pairs I took out the top or second top and did them up just to wear as slip ons and never have to touch the laces again.

Most of the rad dudes I knew only ever did them up to the middle eyelet and cut off the extra laces or just put in laces from Eras (100 cm) instead of the 140 - 160 cm laces that normally came with the various Half Cabs.

They really do feel so good as slip ons for me, way more comfortable than any normal slip on shoe I have ever tried.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I haven't had a chance to skate in my latest ones.. I tend to obsess over lacing to the top or leaving one hole open. Old Skools I would always leave the top hole open, but thats a totally different shoe obviously

One of the only skate shoes ever made that has looked good in every single era it was skated, even in retrospect.

very true statement, even in late 2000s/early 2010s they added a style point to the atrocious fits, even though there were some wack colorways.

there’s some mid 2000s footage of nick trapasso and he made them look sick as fuck

for example the fs flip at 0:42

Yeah totally, as well as one of the only shoes to go through consistently for the last 30 years at all too, isn't it?

I guess there have always been the Sk8 Hi, Old Skool, etc as well.

Definitely a long lasting good style shoe for everything for me for a long, long time.

half cabs, the only shoe that matters  ;D

I prefer to lace mine up to the metal eyelet and tie em up tight with a double knot.

@Mbrimson88 dude, they do make mighty fine slip ons. especially with the pop cush insoles  ;)

Ha yeah!

Agree - If I look back I am sorry that there where
times I don’t Skate a halfcab.

But sometimes it was really difficult to get them.
Even today - most vans shops don’t have them.
My local shop orders every colorway every season for me.

The new Vans shoes in general are a really tough break in, if i skate them before breaking them in I always get a couple blisters.

Despite that, in my experience (once broken in) they have been much more durable, comfy, and had better impact protection/insoles than the old Vans.

I can’t wear them anymore because my sad old achey breaky flat feet etc. - but I still think they’re one of the best looking skate shoes of all time. Anyways, I’m certainly getting waves of nostalgic joy watching Fred Gall get clips in HalfCabs.

Did I imagine it, or did I really see a cupsole halfcab prototype somewhere on slap not that long ago. That would be so dope if not a dream.

what I really like about the insoles in the new ones, I think it's pop cush, is that they've kind of mold to your feet. there's no arch support or anything, but rather they shift/sink with depending on where you place foot pressure while standing. Not quite the same as crocs but not so different. I love it.

I wonder if the insole is the same as the 33 DX Anaheim Factory version.

The older Anaheim shoe version of some others I had pass through my hands a while back had what was an upgraded version of the Classic footbed, so a fairly plain and simple one, not at all like a pro or Skate thick contoured removeable insole, but it clearly felt a little thicker and more spongy than the plain Classic shoes.

I would imagine that is still the case, as per looking at some other Anaheim clearance shoes in a Vans store not too long ago, but I didn't pull up the footbed to check those ones - just saw that they looked the same as what had been in the other shoes that I had pulled up a while back.

I don’t know what the 33 DX Anaheim insole is like but I skated the white pair of these and the insole is stitched in. They skated good. I liked them.
