if memory serves me these reissues were always dwindle, never ps or prime despite paul's involvement in og new deal. tons of the decks, including the screen printed ones hit the crazy ollie's/dwindle closeout last year or so.

There were not many and the small "special" runs sold out fast, but PS Stix did a few runs of various New Deal boards, more so right at the start of the New Deal reboot, I think all pre 2020 close downs of production and other issues too.

All the mainstream boards were 100% DSM though.

Ha no, I just like finding things out as much as anyone else.

Almost to say I enjoy the adventure in looking things up and finding out what was going on with brands, especially more so product than people, you could say.  People are interesting, in hearing some things like the interviews, but at least finding out about skateboard brands, parts, when things came out, who made what and all that sort of thing is way more interesting to me.

It is never about proving someone right or someone else wrong, but even if I get something mixed up or have incorrect information and someone else corrects me, I like to look it up and find out more about it.  That way I am still learning and it is easier to then help anyone else, be it in person, at the shop or skatepark, or online too.

To have this resource is so good for all the "Shoes and Gear" topics and everything that people contribute to it as well, so I am stoked to be able to contribute and spend time on here.

So, I bought a couple of Evisen decks on the cheap, expecting them to be Resin7.

The boards that arrived are DSM but definitely not R7. There’s a small DSM sticker on the underside (on top of the plastic wrap) but none of the usual markings over the front bolts, and the decks aren’t as flat as R7s.

Anyone know what these are? They look decent and I’ll skate them either way—just curious. Surely they’re not birch or some bullshit like that.

I actually wonder if Resin 7 was not just a Dwindle in house marketing name, so was only used by Dwindle, not by DSM as a whole, but overall DSM has a lot of different options, mellow concave, steep concave, mellow kick, steep kick, with combinations of those, which brands could choose and use, more so than DSM just using whatever boards to put graphics on.

Evison has been on DSM wood for as long as I can remember, with distribution clearly not through Dwindle, so I do recall seeing those top laser engraved "E" on them before when I had seen them in a shop or online, more in passing than anything else.

All DSM boards are made with epoxy resin, almost all skateboards are also 7 ply, which are the two names that Resin 7 came from, if I could say it that way, so maybe it is not so much what is printed or laser engraved on the boards, but more so the actual production process that is the same, without it specifically saying so.

They could be the exact same boards, same production methods, same everything, just different graphic brand, different laser top engraving and different price, using different molds but still the same all up.

Sidewalk decks are use EX7 not r7 so maybe it was a dwindle thing.

It never occurred to me until now, but I think all the DSM boards I’ve skated in recent-ish years were Dwindle or, more recently, Sidewalk brands. That explains why I didn’t realise DSM had all these different molds—I thought they were always that same “mellow concave, steep kick” variety I’d associated with R7.

Come to think of it, I did cop a cheap Jacuzzi recently and, like Twist said, it was marketed as EX7. The fact there was probably no R7 branding didn’t even click until now, because the shape and coloured plies were exactly like those old Dwindle decks I’d skated.

So yeah, I think you’re spot on—“R7” must have just been a Dwindle marketing thing.

Probably getting the Thunder IKP since they’re quite cheap in here but I remember Thunder bushings being very “moody” weather wise. Which bushings (not thunder) would fit +-? Ofc I’m thinking about trying ace in there

Ace do work in Thunders, maybe more so the Ace inverted option, as they are closer to the Thunder heights, eg 9 top and 14 bottom, or regular Ace with a squashed or cut / sanded / machined down top bushing.

Any specific recommendations for replacing the fat cotton laces?

If you're talking about their hybrid birch/maple decks. I can't imagine why anyone would want to bring that back.  Maybe Rolling Thunder? (Blueprint/Zoo/world/blind)

I had one year's decks snap felt hollow, and then it delamed. Sidewalk doesn't make pricepoint decks at the moment. I can't see why evisen would want to use cheaper boards in their line up

If your talking about impact, sk8mafia does a few of those for TJ, and Decenzo's brand still uses them.

Graphite is a known "dry lubricant" and can definitely be added to bearings, so long as they are completely dry and free of anything that can either cause the bearing to get gunked up (liquid or any other lubricant or similar product) or things stuck in the bearing to cause it to not roll freely.

A number of people can and do use graphite powder in the little squeeze tube on their bearings, usually running them without shields and keep them as dry as possible.

Once any moisture gets in there, they get very messy, but they are just as easy to clean out if you do it right.  Also never putting too much graphite in there is important too, just like putting more than one or two drops of speed cream or other wet lubricant, things get very messy very quickly.

Take out the good lace, measure length, and now you have the correct length you need... Give amazon a search, or hit your local, they may have extra laces laying around, or extras for sale.

Quantum StackZ with Graph-Flo is available and comes with Isotopes and other lines of their ceramic bearings, however I hated it because it is grey, and got all over EVERYTHING.  Regardless of the benefits, I couldn't deal with the mess.

Try new nuts. The nylock might be dead/worn.

Do you mean the axle nut is coming off?

I am thinking that more so than the bearing slipping out of the wheel, but that has also been another issue people had been having and not quite knowing where to turn.

Curious to hear more, eg what type of axle - solid, hollow, ti and on what brand of truck.  If the axle ends are severely worn down, then there might be more chance of issues too.


* Not going to suggest replacing axle nuts, unless the end has been cleaned up, maybe even a rethreader used, but I have also seen some where the axle threads strip, so any or every nut you put on there just will not want to stay.  One guy had that issue and ended up using super glue to hold the axle nut on.  Very much not recommended, but it worked for him as he didn't change out wheels much at all and then could still get it off easily enough with a solid metal tool when he did have to finally swap things out, but that is a one off, more than something I would recommend anyone else to try.

I didn't see your post until after the thing reloaded, but yes, it is funny how many people don't just replace axle nuts, or kingpin nuts if they come loose like that.

If I can finger tighten anything down to where it needs to be, or right on to any thread, that nut is done and not worth using on that setup, although sometimes I have been able to swap some nuts around and have them work better on other ends, for whatever reason.

I hate brand new everything and would consider having to do an entirely new set up a near catastrophic failure in my life. I replace as few things as possible at a time. I even put old bushings on new trucks. old bearings in new wheels, old wheels with new bearings, etc

Depends! Sometimes I want a fresh start if i felt like my gear was getting wonky near its end, I'll bite the bullet and break them in stock or swap aftermarket bushings of preference.

If I can, I will maintain the existing bushings in the new trucks to make it easier on the new trucks. Some do new wheels/bearings with new trucks, I only do that if it's a must, otherwise everything else stays the same

This is a funny one.

Just like people above had said, I used to hate new setups, the more new stuff the worse it would be having to get used to it, but I think I have become more used to breaking in new things, especially a new complete, with a very gentle mini ramp session or two first, which just gets the bushings working nicely without putting too much pressure on them.

Sometimes new setups still bug me, if they are too steep or too stiff, but more so now, if I am setting up new trucks, then I will most likely set up a new complete.


New deck can go on anything, apart from almost destroyed trucks, wheels, bearings.  I save those and make completes with well used gear, or others with very well used gear, mainly for kids / others to skate or keep if needed.

New wheels just work better if they have good bearings in them, not specifically new, but at least no noise or issues.

New trucks can have stock bushings, but I will often swap in others depending on what the brand is, but as trucks last the longest, it is easier to start fresh with new trucks, so new everything else too.


I don't think I go through gear half as much as I used to, so it is not a worry to set up a new complete and then still skate my other boards if I am going somewhere I don't want a new board to ride, so I guess that helps too, not having the one board I have to get used to and that is all I can skate.

Some people I know are like that, but more often than not, they just deal with a few crappy sessions first as they break things in and then it all usually works better for them after that.
