Re epoxy is only used in skateboard manufacturing with no restrictions on personal health of employees, such as when they are made in China, as they are not permitted by law to use it in USA or Mexico. That was my understanding.
Where did you get this info? I don't think this is true.
E.g. surfboard shapers / shaping factories use epoxy all the time in the USA.
*** EDIT - I WAS WRONG ABOUT CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS ON EPOXY ***
I could be confusing it with the urethane info, re a lot of the older urethane wheels were made under different circumstances and new rules regarding personal safety meant that it was just not cost effective or something to still do them that way, harmful chemicals and other things banned to protect the human involved.
Thought this might have been the case with boards - epoxy is more harmful, or at least woodshops had to go to more extreme measures to protect their workers in USA and Mexico, so it was just not cost effective to use it for boards, so they went with water based glues instead.
China has no restrictions on labour, personal protections or harmful chemicals so they have no issue using it there.
Anyone else with more info, please share too.
* A quick search and I come up with a number of reasons epoxy is more harmful than water based glues from google, but it is also said to be more expensive too, so there might be a number of factors there.
Water based glues - boards held together well but still has flex, lighter, crisp but slowly loses pop and stiffness.
Epoxy - boards super stiff (maybe too stiff for some) and heavier, so although it holds the stiffness, sometimes it is more likely to break than bend.
