So is there any sticker or anything with "Made in..." anywhere on the board, on the packaging or elsewhere?

I am guessing it might be a case of BBS for USA (or associated places) but then China wood for other places.

Still don't know though, but I haven't really looked much either.

Main thing, how is the concave on that board, especially if you are more keen to ride it, compared to just hanging it or looking at it?

Thanks.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I came to the conclusion it must be china wood I removed the sticker on nose and there was no BBS dot. No made in stamp anywhere though.

Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

How is the wood from Legend, any good? CaraBeth Burnside pro model (!) from H-Street has piqued my interest.

Never heard of them, but is it an old brand that they wiped and changed their name?

Funny that the insta account with no posts has over twenty two thousand followers...

https://www.instagram.com/flytecc/

The Flytecc fanpage has only 62 but does have pics of the boards.

https://www.instagram.com/flytecc_fanpage/

I guess any one else with any more info might be able to help out here, or someone closer to the source.

* Also I see the Woodshop thread is now pinned to the top of Shoes and Gear - Stoked to say the least, not at all for myself, but just to help anyone and everyone out there who might be looking for more info on any board brand, or where it comes from or anything else like that.

** Remember, all of this is thanks to everyone who contributes to it, so the more people check and help with information, the more accurate this list should be.

.

Strike is (or was until earlier this year) a brand that seems to be associated with one of the guys who is now doing Flytecc, so looking at the info on there, they were through PS Stix, which makes sense, given that right now they might be cheaper or taking on more accounts than others, so it seems.

They could be providing boards for the new company too, but apart from that, I really don't know.

They are printed by quarter distribution in Berlin and they use Superply(?) blanks for all their products. The boards are from china. Quality is ok though

That would suck. Great shapes but boards dont last. Broken many in one session. Maybe if they switched to resin epoxy instead of water based glues.

Wish them the best nonetheless. Too much history there.

Damn! On that note, can anyone recommend another PS Stix deck that has full nose shapes like Quasi?

I am trying different wood since I got back into skating and really want something like that for my next deck. I will most likely just get Quasi but it might be easier if I have more choices.

Quasi is half Ps Stix and half BBS now.

WKND uses PS Stix, and have a pretty wide range of shapes

About time I made a few updates to the woodshop list.

Crazy to think PS Stix could be going belly up, but the margins and competition from cheaper board manufacturers in China is no joke, so it is only getting harder for USA / Mexico based production woodshops.

Re epoxy is only used in skateboard manufacturing with no restrictions on personal health of employees, such as when they are made in China, as they are not permitted by law to use it in USA or Mexico.  That was my understanding.

Oh cool.
My homies work with resin epoxy building kitchen tops and flooring. All they need is proper gear and ventilation, here in California no less. Did not know it was not allowed for skateboards.

Where did you get this info? I don't think this is true.

E.g. surfboard shapers / shaping factories use epoxy all the time in the USA.

Thanks! I knew about WKND too but didn’t realize Quasi was also using BBS. Sounds like GX1000 but they seem to be all BBS now.

Maybe Clutch? BBS seems to own the industry and I just can’t see PS closing. But who knows. Stranger things have happened.

Go look at the first page of this thread then go find one from 2020 or so: the PS share of the market has drop exponentially. I think people are quite tired of their shit. I skated a few PS shapes for a while then noticed the serial number and shapes changed a bit. All of a sudden the nose was a lot steeper and flared out wider. I emailed the company and they were like 'ya we didn't know and asked if we could have the old shape....' and it's like why would you randomly change shapes on some of your bigger customers when you're losing ground left and right?

I was talking to a shop that had PS pressed decks and they said never again. Tons of issues with decks delamming or going soggy extremely quick and multiple runs of the same size were completely different molds despite asking for the same molds every run.

I don't think it's Clutch. My local shop has 2 employees/part owners that own Clutch and it sounds like a super budget operation that still presses an insane amount of special issues/shop decks, but I'm also not really going in there like "Hey so how shitty is ur woodshop doing is it going under".

What I was more saying is I wouldn't be shocked if it were PS given they've lost significant market share over time and people seem tired of their shit.

I know, I was just kidding. I think I'm in a bit of denial about PS because I've always loved their shapes/concave.

*** EDIT - I WAS WRONG ABOUT CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS ON EPOXY ***

I could be confusing it with the urethane info, re a lot of the older urethane wheels were made under different circumstances and new rules regarding personal safety meant that it was just not cost effective or something to still do them that way, harmful chemicals and other things banned to protect the human involved.

Thought this might have been the case with boards - epoxy is more harmful, or at least woodshops had to go to more extreme measures to protect their workers in USA and Mexico, so it was just not cost effective to use it for boards, so they went with water based glues instead.

China has no restrictions on labour, personal protections or harmful chemicals so they have no issue using it there.

Anyone else with more info, please share too.

* A quick search and I come up with a number of reasons epoxy is more harmful than water based glues from google, but it is also said to be more expensive too, so there might be a number of factors there.

Water based glues - boards held together well but still has flex, lighter, crisp but slowly loses pop and stiffness.

Epoxy - boards super stiff (maybe too stiff for some) and heavier, so although it holds the stiffness, sometimes it is more likely to break than bend.

Heard it from a dude who works at a local shop

Also have it on good authority that they’ve been struggling for awhile. Their main engineer dude left because he wasn’t getting along with Schmitt. Engineer dude, meaning the guy who designed all the presses.

Heard he was pushing to diversify, but Schmitt only wants to make skateboards.

For anyone who doesn’t know, BBS also makes furniture and gun stocks
