The last toy machine I had was USA made. Screen Printed. came with a large sticker too! about as wide as the board

I thought it may have been South Central because of the weird bevel of the rails
[close]

That board looks like a really good shape too!

Was that from this year, last year or longer?

I think of any bigger brand, Toy Machine has been one of the most inconsistent with random / irregular woodshop changes, seemingly whatever they could get to fulfil order numbers, more than keeping things of a level quality of product.

It would be good to have some better boards out there, not just in USA, but I really don't know what is going on there, hard times, changes in distribution, etc.

Thanks for posting that one though - I recall our old friend who I haven't seen in a while posting about all the different wood options with Toy from when he would buy them there in USA too, so it is good to have some more info there.
[close]

After watching the last video and all the spam about buying our skateboards, etc., the garbage that are the Toy Machine Europe boards, one and no more, Titus is full of them, surely some of them are American but it is impossible to know which one is Chinese or America
[close]

Just checked Titus web site, quite a few do have stickers that I can identify, so use this as a guide - still subject to them posting pics of different board tops - but the red and white round sticker in the middle of the front bolts is BBS, as per this link:

https://www.titus-shop.com/products/toy-machine-deck-monster-natural-0101251

PS Stix serial number on this one:

https://www.titus-shop.com/products/toy-machine-deck-pattern-logo-multicolored-0267209

Then this one is China made (going by seeing those same stickers on some boards here) but I could be wrong, if it is another sticker almost the same with Made in XXX on it, eg Mexico.

https://www.titus-shop.com/products/toy-machine-deck-last-supper-multicolored-0106522

I think the best thing is usually going in to check, because most boards usually have a Made in XXX on the size sticker, or the warning sticker.

Of course, being on the other side of the world doesn't help much, but even calling and asking someone to check stickers on top of boards can help with some things.

If in doubt, just buy something you know, rather than go for a lucky dip and most likely ending up with something you don't want.

At least most of those listings, if not all do have board dimensions on them, which is always nice.

careful. I have ordered decks from skatewarehouse.com that hat BBS stickers on the pictures, but turned out to be chinese. You can't really go by the pictures....

I'm about to order the classics fists, always wanted it, and it seems to be BBS.
They send from Poland so hopefully I won't get that nasty Chinese one.

That sticker is the very "average" China wood board, from that top sticker from that pic, same boards that we get here in Australia.

Yeah that is the unfortunate thing with some shops just using any old stock image top.  I even saw one with old stock being whatever good woodshop, but the newer boards were all generic cheap wood, didn't update the pics, just the logo board pretty much the same graphic for another brand I was buying boards from, so I am glad I saw the boards in person and didn't get them at the time.

The list is getting longer of what was "Made in Mexico" that is now "Made in China" from a fair number of brands, whether it is more prevalent in EU, AU or Asia than USA, but even there, some brands seem to be getting all their boards from China, with the costs increasing for production in Mexico now, compared to US dollar and all the rest of the goings on that are affecting skateboard prices.

Another listing with the China made boards, good top pic for reference:

https://www.skatedeluxe.com/en/toy-machine-pattern-logo-8-5-skateboard-deck-multi_p149935?cPath=42&brand_id=67

This was one that had a different sticker - BBS in USA.

Just make sure though, as said, sticker pics can be changed.

Another one, this time with white size sticker with Made in China at the bottom of it.

I really like the Toy Machine team and I want to support them as an oldhead. I've had 4 TM boards in the last several months and all have been from PS Stix Made in Mexico - All but one of those decks I ordered straight from their ToyMachine website.

I can definitely attest to their shapes and dimensions being inconsistent though. I may post more later because I actually just went through a really good episode of brainworms/madness trying to figure out what was going on after I got 2 "identical" boards ordered right off their site that had different dimensions to one another, and neither matched the description of the board on the site.
Ironically I think it was the shape I've enjoyed skating the most this year.

Love Toy Machine but REALLY hope they find some consistency soon and iron out their specs.

Another woodshop, this one in Brazil.

Definitely press their own boards, compared to some other places of interest recently who just buy in boards to print.

Has anyone skated the Polar P2 or P2 Jr. shape? I've got a P2 Jr in transit right now and I'm debating which trucks I should slap on it. I have equally broken in pairs of Indys and Ace AF1s that I could slap on it, but I'm debating whether to go full madness and get a new set of trucks for it or not. Of course, I could make the decision when the board actually arrives, but I figured I'd ask. Anyone know what kind of trucks would pair well with the 14.25 wheelbase of the P2 Jr? I mostly skate curbs, manny pads, and small ledges

P2 Jr.
8.25” (Widest Point) X 32”
Nose: 6.9”
Wheel Base: 14.25”
Tail: 6.55”

Seems like any 8.25 trucks would be good, either Indy 144s, Ace AF1 44, etc but people do run smaller trucks on that sort of board easily enough too.

Shortish wheelbase, normal kicks, so either trucks would work well, I would think.

Anyone know of any companies (hopefully smaller) that produce mostly or only wood veneer stain bottoms?

I’m tired of graphic boards and paint and wanted a nice wooden bottom. It can have a small graphic or paint like the Scumco logo deck Or whatever but mostly a nice stained bottom.

From seeing a number of other boards, all with "Made in China" or that the supplier doesn't want to say where they are from, I would say that is easily included in that lot.

Nothing wrong with boards made in China, increasingly better quality and decent shapes too, but as everything else is getting more expensive and more woodshops are supplying cheaper blanks / shop boards and even pro boards to the global market, I would think this would be one of them.

I guess it depends on where you are, USA I would imagine, so something like skatesamples.com might be a better option, to get blanks, although they don't let you pick colours, they do have good quality boards - BBS / Generator wood - all the specs on their site with info, etc.  There are lots of people with them in the setup thread too, but if like me you are not USA based, then it is not really an option there - costs more to send them than the board costs in that regard.

As to smaller companies, that would be more so down to the area, or where they ship from / to as well, but any number of companies like Carpet seem smaller and often run a lot more wood stains with minimal graphics, although I haven't looked to see what their current offerings are like.  Also BBS wood too.

A lot of woodshops are doing blanks as I would say the market is hurting as there are too many boards and not enough buyers, but they will often not sell singles, compared to a shop that you can walk into and buy one board, or at least talk to someone, see what is in the shop, compare products, etc.

I would often use online stores to browse boards in the desired size, look for minimal graphics or nicer stains, as even some of the better / bigger board brands do a number of boards with a lot more of the wood stain showing through now.  Getting sick of full graphics and removing them is a pain, but getting something with only half a graphic is a lot easier to take off and I do like a nice bottom stain on my boards, more than ever now.

If Scumco is more local to you, hit them up for minimal graphic options, as they might have something you could go with.

I also have some Magenta boards with very minimal graphics too.

That was just from looking at your history anyway.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned yet, but for those wondering about Jacuzzi Unlimited, I confirmed with Louie that they’re still gonna use Dwindle wood
[close]
That makes me really happy. The R7 boards are awesome. Kicks are a little steeper than I prefer for the pop is fanatic and they last forever before getting soggy.

Sorry for stupid question.

Is this board an "R7?"
https://www.tactics.com/jacuzzi-unlimited/flavor-85-skateboard-deck

I don't know how to figure these things out.  So at first I thought I wasn't going to skate it but wound up giving it a go and I actually really like the shape and the steep nose.  Helps me with my lame ollies (at least in my head it does). Wondering if that means I can find other DSM brands with the same shape in 8.5. Board is fine now, just planning ahead....

Never any stupid questions in the woodshop thread, so this is my take anyway:

Resin-7 Epoxid (R7):

This deck structure is an extension of the classic seven-ply construction. However, in the Resin-7 Epoxy (R7) construction, the individual layers of wood are not bonded with water-based glue, rather with epoxy resin.

Basically it is the go to for all DSM boards, as they use epoxy and not water based glue like the US / Mexico and other board manufacturers, for a number of reasons, but the boards are stiffer and hold their form longer too, maybe more likely to break than bend, as is the case with some boards, but they hold up until that point, vs some other boards that go soggy and feel limp, or progressively go from crispy on day one to a dead weight by the time you are ready to get a new one.

Some price point boards from China use Birch and other wood, but they usually have something like that in the info, or are considerably cheaper than the normal boards, eg the generic logo boards from Dwindle were more often than not Birch and sold more so in department store / mall store situations.

As to the shape, yes those dimensions look like the most common 8.5 sized boards, as I used to see from Dwindle brands, so I would imagine that there would still be more of those boards from other brands that use DSM in the future, or old Dwindle stock on clearance, depending on your area, access, etc.

WIDTH (IN):   8.5
LENGTH (IN):   32.2
WHEELBASE (IN):   14.25
NOSE LENGTH (IN):   7.125
TAIL LENGTH (IN):   6.68

Hope that helps!

Don't hate on me! Just throwing this out there!

The Nine Muses The Origin of the Strange deck

https://robbrink.com/products/the-nine-muses-welder-wings-the-origin-of-the-strange-deck

BBS Manufacturing
7 ply maple construction.
Size: 8.38"
14.18” Wheelbase
Mold 8. Same as Primitive, slightly less steep nose and tail kicks than DLX.

Next graphic will come in this 8.38 and 8.25. Same mold.

I thought people would buy these to hang but turns out they are skating them too. So cool.

Man I used to love nerding out on decks and stuff. Especially after all I learned working in a skate shop then the industry. Super fun to be working directly on my own and making ones exactly how I want them.

I still long for accurate old World/Blind/101/Plan B molds though. Sigh. Thank you for tolerating this post and my new brand plug.

I also saw some new Blind reissues too, so although yes the wood is from DSM, I don't know who distributes them - New Deal or any of the others in that same lot.

At least there are significant brands all still using DSM wood, with their own contacts through DSM, so it might not be too hard to go directly through them, or through Globe, who owns DSM woodshop.

Maybe all through Globe now?

Yes, that is what I had heard or seen someone post or some news info or whatever it was.

Thanks for confirming too - guessing they are making boards and trying to get them out there to move units and get their name out there, even though they don't have it at all on the SW site, but that is a really good place to start, as well as having all sizes (widths) and all with the 14.2 wb, which is increasingly popular now too.

I will have to add this to the Woodshop list too.

I often find looking for the wood, more so than a specific brand can work well in my favour, more so when I know what brands use, so deals like that are pretty good, when you find them.

Seems like the sales come and go, so sometimes specific shapes are harder to come by, the Heated Wheel boards, maybe more so in bigger sizes 8.75 plus, had shorter wheelbases too, which works for some people more than others.

General question, who is making the flattest blank?

Interested in seeing what thats all about. I regret not snapping up a FAF when you could still get them.

They're not fully blank but Mini Logo decks are really flat. I know Steve from DOA rode them for a while after DOA closed and made a couple of youtube videos about them.

The SW blanks are from the new HLC factory in Texas, or at least that is what others had been saying.

Given they all have around the 14.2 wheelbase, from regular right up to big wide boards and shapes, this is a plus for people who like the wider but shorter boards too.

I still hadn't added anything to the main list on page 1, so thanks for the reminder too.
