I'm gonna warn you this is a long fucking post because I've been thinking about this ever since that gifted hater hit piece was posted back in the spring.

Yeah I'm under the impression that FA sees her as a person who brings a unique identity that adds to the diversity of the team, as they dont have any other black women (or any other women at all, right?) on the team. I do honestly think that Dill feels it's a positive thing to do for her and for skaters like her to see themselves represented a bit more by getting a spot on a wildly popular company. And this is why I don't think this is the big disaster people always want to turn it into here... I agree with Dill that it's a positive thing.

I also honestly believe that if this isn't for you, if she is too much of a kook, or if her skating just isn't all that impressive to you, it's not that hard to stop beating a dead fucking horse here. My entire fucking Instagram feed is skateboarding essentially and I never see Beatrice... until I log onto SLAP and read a bunch of bad jokes and complaints about seeing too much of her and how undeserving of attention she is. Fuck off and pay attention to something else in skating if it bothers you, she's not for you anyway. I agree that Dill/FA is definitely milking the demographic and following in the footsteps of those that did it before him (Reynolds/Baker), but in this case it doesn't annoy me (for a few reasons).

For one... I also don't find her particularly skilled or outgoing, but at the same time she hasn't comitted the number of completely egregious fuck ups that the amount of negative attention she gets would suggest. To me, she's a real skateboarder who dresses a particular trendy way, says some dumb shit maybe, and makes a career out of doing the same trick over and over. In my opinion, that makes her just like everyone else on FA barring a few, or at least exactly like aiden mackey and sean pablo, both of whom have received hate but arent jokes to the level Beatrice is here. So, why the extra hate for her? Are we really that mad at her skill level?

Another reason I'm not mad at it is that I think it's positive representation for black female skaters, or any skater interested in seeing skateboarding become accessible to all. Just because she isn't the most talented or killing interviews doesn't mean she can't have a place in skating. Skating should be diverse enough to include her. I honestly see her having a platform as a way of making skating more accessible to people who've been historically all but absent from it., marketing decision or not.

in this day and age everything has a hyper political agenda wether it is product marketing or sports
