Haven't been able to find anyone on SF3 Turbo online and I'm on PS4. Sucks cause it's my favorite one but I have no problem with arcade mode
[close]

Nobody plays the classic games on console. You might find some people playing Ultra sf4 or Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3…that’s probably the oldest games you will find matches on.

But there’s a vibrant classic 2d fighting game community on PC. Google Fightcade, and go from there. I play Third Strike on there all the time.

I've been playing Alpha 3 and bit of 3s on there lately. the port is also superior on fightcade compared to the official version lol. feels way more true to arcade.

Everyone happy with their characters updates for season 2 of SF6? I am pretty happy with Honda, and also Luke didn't get killed too hard so my characters still feel like they are in a good place.

been playing consistently since release, grinded chun li from iron all the way up to diamond, and i gotta say im pretty bummed about this season 2. was really hoping sakura, ibuki, fei long, or makoto.

season 2 characters just seems real gimmicky, like the kinda lineup you see in season 4-5 like "omg bison is back and now so is terry!"

im in the slap sf server (pile) been ghost on there but would be down to get some games in with some pals

There’s a Slap SF server?

Bison’s character design looks solid. Till now, every other character had terrible design.

I’m loving the Elena return and the SNK additions.

Hoping this means we will get Capcom vs SNK 3 soon.

more general slap one I am not the admin for https://discord.gg/GnThsJmJ

I am not too stoked on S2 tbh, Bison seems like he should always be in SF to me though and Elena is someone a lot of people are usually bummed on fighting against so not sure about that one. Fatal Fury characters are just gonna be like anime injected into street fighter, not a huge fan tbh but that is just the reality of it you gotta enjoy the game while its out before it becomes a bloated mess haha. I think they put too many characters into these games these days whne they know which ones are good and solid to the series. It makes it too hard to learn all the matchups and too much to keep up with.

I would love Fei to be added was really hoping hed come back, and I think damn near everyone wants Sakura to return

Amen, this is why I only really play Third Strike and SF2. Bit more manageable. Hate the staggered release thing in newer games too. Although handled better, one or two DLCs like SF4 is far preferable to 2 characters every few months for years.

he seems good to me. i want to spend more time using him just have been so damn busy lately. i beat his trials really quick and have a good sense of what i would want to do in the game with him. he can stay in really well. I think you will find as the game releases more and more characters they realize the mistakes maybe or shortcomings of the original characters, so the newer characters always seem a little more well rounded / well thought out.

They have made this game really balanced though.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GQ2gq-7WQAAO2Y3?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

you can see at the very high ranks, the win / loss rates are really close to 50%. so evne with a "shitty" character like honda, i can still do pretty well. i am glad the system is very balanced for once and it doenst feel like some characters just get all these other tools that mine doesnt. it makes learning new characters feel really easy too.

I never really played any SF beyond SF2 Turbo Champions Edition, but it's one of my favorite games of all time.

Overly longwinded story incoming, I mostly just want to type it out for a nice walk down memory lane.
TLDR at the end.

One of my most beloved core memories was on an SF2 Championship Edition.
1992. My big brother brought me (10 years old) to the arcade with him one night.
Huge crowd of teenagers around the SF2CE machine.
This one dude was using Chun Li and just murking everyone. Basically the whole arcade is taking turns getting stomped by this dude.
I finally squeeze my little 10 year old self to the front of the line and drop my quarters in.
I distinctly remember hearing someone in the crowd say "this'll be quick" and laughter from a few others.
Pick my go to, Sagat.

This is a huge, nerve wracking moment for a 10 year old. Being out at night surrounded by teenagers.
I get crushed in round 1, I hit him at least once because it wasn't a Perfect, but probably only once.

Round 2 starts and I immediately throw a tiger uppercut that he jumps right into, then pin him in the corner with high and low mixed fireballs for a minute. I take round 2. Not a total beatdown but I still had about half health at the end.

Round 3 starts, I stupidly throw the tiger uppercut again but he does the spinning kick instead of a jump kick and knocks me down, pins me in the corner with lightning kicks. I'm getting an occasional hit in but he's just picking me apart in the corner.
I'm down to a barely visible sliver of health, out of desperation I stop blocking long enough to throw a tiger knee out, it lands and knocks him back, I immediately start spamming tiger uppercuts, land 2 in a row and it's over.
I swear to god the whole arcade went insane. The roar of the crowd was fuckin' deafening. I didn't realize until I turned around that the crowd size had doubled from the beginning of the match.
All these kids aged like 15-20 and it took the 10 year old to knock this guy off the machine. I felt like a superhero celebrity. I was so overwhelmed by the whole situation I'm pretty sure I completely bunted the next fight and got knocked off the machine.

TLDR - 1992. Saturday night. Teenage dude beating the brakes off every challenger in packed arcade.
10 year old me steps up and knocks him off the machine with a psychotic come from behind victory.
Crowd goes wild. Core memory unlocked.

Great story! Champion - Turbo was like right when I started playing so it has a lot of really good memories for me. I also kinda feel like thats when the games got really good too. WW was kinda clunky and had some problems. Honda cant even do buttslam!

my friend who is like 10 years older than me told me about when Champion first came out he was in high school and he skipped school to see what it was all about and there were mad kids there. the first two guys got on the game and people didnt know you could both pick the same character and the whole arcade was going wild when the first fight loaded up.

I remember making a lot of teenagers / grown men salty at my local arcades as a child. I had an older brother 5 years older and we played at home all the time so we were super solid at the arcade. We are from a small town so we never had any big lineups or anything awesome like that though. There was one time I was on holiday and i was bodying this kid over and over again with Honda and he was begging his mom for just 1 more quarter. like 20 years later he came up to me in a street fighter 4 tournamnt and asked me if i remembered it!!!  ;D

I'm really stoked to have been born early enough to see arcades in their heyday. I wouldn't be surprised if kids hear these stories of huge crowds mobbed around an arcade cabinet, everyone screaming and cheering, and think it's just old people making shit up, or at best inaccurately reflecting on their childhood with rose-tinted glasses.
It's a shame it'll never happen again, it just can't. I mean, there's arcades everywhere now (barcades), but it's not the same. It's just a nostalgic novelty and 80% of the clientele is people like me reliving their childhood, still fun, but doesn't capture the fuckin' hype of every 10 to 20 year old in the country being obsessed with one new game that you can only play at the arcade. Good times.

I finally got to Master with my main Ryu last month and now hovering in upper 1200 to mid-1300s MR. What helped a lot was throwing fewer fireballs because I'd get jumped in on so much, increasing my use of dashes back and forth, and learning better when it's my turn and not pressing buttons as much when the other player is attacking.

I still need to work on optimal combos and teching throws, which has been one of my major weaknesses since I started playing SF6. But that might be less of an issue if they're getting rid of throw loops in season 3 as rumored.

still havent gotten my chun to master, just stuck in diamond. shit is such a miserable grind. started at iron with her. this past season of characters sucked, and they are taking way too long releasing characters. hopefully next season is more than 4 characters, and they arent guest characters.

not sure how i feel about the new build they are releasing with elena, they are changing the parry system slightly, which i guess nerfs it a bit in neutral, forcing you to go forward or backward then parry. im on board with the forward parry because its sorta like 3rd strike, but the back perfect parry seems kinda lame idk, well see how it plays out at a top level (which im obviously not at, so this change might not fuck with me too much)

i havent been playing much lately to be honest. have hardly logged on. just have been doing other stuff...
sorry i havent checked your replays out yet dude. I am gonna log on tonight and try to remember!

One thing I will say, the way I play, i hardly ever take any risks at all. This is kind of how I have always played, but I think like the more i played the more i reinforced this style. a lot of really good players told me its really good style to have and really annoying to play against which is kind of what you want.

because i play e honda, he is a bit more one dimensional id say, but he will dominate the mid ranks a lot more easily. vs if you are using Ryu, you have to be really fucking godlike to stand out. you have to just play so insanely solid and never make any mistake, and on top of that, super optimal on every conversion. insanely hard character to play beyond low master. but then honda as you get further in, since his style is kinda more about taking big risks for big damage, it can lead to lower win rate id say. characters that can maintain pressure really well get more chances to download the opponent and then convert the information into damage.

the high level shit is really hard in these games. you guys are doing insanely well. theres a lot of people that play who are playing like few hours every day since the game released consistnetly... they understand the options so thoroughly its wild. i just dont have that kind of time in the game yet! that was more like when i was playing usf4... i am really enjoying it still though. i did a 2nd pass in world tour because my bro gave me a PS5 and it was such a better experieence than on ps4 lmao

No worries. Definitely not in a rush. I'll probably be stuck in this low Master rank for a while, if I ever get out of it. Haha.

I'm pretty relieved to have made it though, and it feels kinda like a monkey off my back.

Maybe we can play some matches some time, if we're online at the same time. I know I'll get rekt since you're like 1500, but it'll be fun. We could do an FT5 or FT10.

try to not use ex fireball so much unless you have confirmed the combo and its going to lead into more damage and extend the combo. It does not do a lot of damage raw and it costs 2 bars which is quite a lot when you consider spending on a drive rush is just 1 more bar but does stupid damage and then land in good setup.

i think i saw you do tatsu in neutral as well, i would probably not use that unless you confirmed it first because its a really easy move to avoid + punish due to the long startup and kinda crappy hitboxes. it is a very strong move to end a combo in though.

i think if you practiced your light confirms can go a long way, there was alot of times you could have converted those to at least some sort of damage and position. seems like your confirms starting from the other buttons were really good though

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I have a bad habit of throwing EX fireballs that I developed in lower ranks that I never got rid of. I will try to be more conscious of that. I don't do too many raw tatsus except when I'm feeling desperate or impatient but I shouldn't let those situations get to me. Also, I practice doing light attacks into DPs and tatsus in training but in Ranked Matches I forgot to do them or mess up the buttons sometimes. Another thing I need to work on.

I usually work till 8 PM PT, so I wouldn't have been available when you were on. Sorry I missed you but I'll message you on Discord sometime or send a Custom Room request if I see you online.
