Very cool thing to fire someone that, for all intents and purposes, was wearing about half of the brand’s hats and seemingly doing what was asked of him, during the holiday season. Every poster on here would do things differently but there was nothin that I could point at and say “yep, that’s a fuck up.”
For someone w.no signature ur awfully hostile, & that is why I do this

Sucks because Emerica used to be my favourite brand ever. Then their quality dropped significant, became totally irrelevant and uninspired with only generic vulc shoes following the "C1rca way" and now Tim getting the boot.
I thought I couldn't care less about the brand, this proved me wrong.
Last nail on the coffin.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

To be serious, it sucks to see an advocate for the brand who was willing to put themselves out there to an often critical audience and be as open and honest as possible get laid off right now. Hope things turn around quickly!

Yeah Tim was pretty about it from all angles and out there with guys daily, I’ve seen a lot of filming credits for him this year too. Pretty stupid to can the one guy actually doing something right at sole tech. He built hype for the g6 sole and gave us the cup sole slip on everyone wanted. Thanks for everything Tim!
[close]

Ive been wearing Emerica shoes for 21 years basically (of course, sometimes I went somewhere different). But Emerica has been my first, and I thought it will be my last skate shoe.

I follow Tim on social and for about the last month something wasnt feeling right ( I think he used his vacation days or something, all at once) but I kinda thought this may happen. Since he confirmed the leave here, I have this bittersweet feeling (this may seem a little too much of a post about wearing shoes, but whatever). Emerica is my favourite company of all time, and I just hope that even after they have let Tim go, they can survive that. If they survived Reynolds leaving, everything is possible, it just doesnt look good.

I just happened to go to Austin on my way to see my family on the east coast for Thanksgiving. I’ll admit I’m pretty curious to see how things end up. Aside from Global Brand Manager, I was also Marketing Manager, Team Manager, Social Media Manager, and even handling most of the video side of things as well from filming/editing all of our campaign videos to even producing all of our short length videos. Hard to say how it’s going to go with all no one running the ship handling all those roles and responsibilities but regardless I wish the best for everyone especially the team riders because I know they are the heart and soul of the brand.

Damn, that’s too bad. Not a great look for Emerica.

I would feel completely free to talk shit about Emerica now that Tim is gone, but since there’s still riders on the team that get paid, I won’t. (*hopefully* paid)
Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.

Hopefully they broke you off with a severance. From my work industry, it's 3 weeks severance for every year you have worked for a company and then you can file for unemployment. If you get a job asap, you can pretty much get paid with two paychecks for little while or you can take a much needed break and chill out.

Best of luck anyways.

That's actually fucked they got you doing that much work for the brand and then just fucked you off anyway. Real low.

Seriously, best of luck in the future.

That's where blindly supporting skater owned gets you. Jerry recently had this

time stamp 20:20. Skater owned is just a marketing term when you hire outside consultants to makes choices anyways.

Funny how obsessed people are with making people who used to skate rich while denouncing big corps that are obviously not rooted in this but are actually letting relevant current skaters have a liveable wage.

Why do people always make core vs. corp an ethical or moral argument? It's a cultural debate. Skateboarders should be in control of skateboarding because skateboarders should have power over their scene. It's actually an amoral issue of control. If you like outsiders dictating the scene, that's odd. Most scenes understand this dynamic and do everything they can to maintain control over their destiny.

To play devil’s advocate, Jerry’s point is that a brand like Emerica has an outside accountant/auditor or consultant come in and give recommendations on what to do.

Hey dude, never supported Soletech on the basis of them being skater owned (eS, Etnies fit me better than most other brands. Much as I like Penny and Barney Page, it sucks because that means I'm also giving Don Brown money.). None of these companies are, and as Chuck said it's a culture war thing.

The skater-owned shit pisses me off, because it's meant to invoke some sort of loyalty when really they could be fucking everyone about, the team riders, the team managers, the manufactuerers, etc. It's a face they wear to get your money, every brand has that shit.

It pisses me off when Skater-Owned gets conflated as if it's a co-op owned by skaters, or unionized etc.
No clue if that's ever even been done before in skating but it's gotta happen eventually. Or if woodshops or shoe/aparrel manufacturers have ever been unionized.

Did you watch the jerry clip at time stamp? The point of posting that was to argue that the control "skater owned" shoe companies have is an illusion. Tim's goodbye post had Don Brown thanking him for his work over the years. Did he have control over that decision?

You guys are just describing capitalism. All skate companies and shops, whether mom-and-pop or major corporation, have to work within this framework in capitalist countries. Doesn't diminish the core argument.

Last we heard, they're phasing out the G6 cupsole so I'd assume the releases are going to start to slow down. So you might want to grab what you can.

I like how this thread was diving into a conversation about culture and unionizing skate brands, capitalism in skateboarding etc. then it died off until someone’s like “check out these MJ’s” lol

idk maybe we wanted to leave it on that note. Nobody fuck with Emerica anymore since they got rid of SlapTM. Those brown MJs look boss tho.

We should unionize skate brands though. Designers need paying, factory workers are getting peanuts for actually making the product on production lines and the talent are getting like 60 bucks and a pair of shoes for killing themselves day after day.

I wasn’t criticizing I just thought it was a funny transition. There’s only so much you can say before it’s like “well hope something changes” because you’re absolutely right, skateboarding should have a union that not only ensures pro skaters have access to healthcare and a decent wage, but some kind of exit plan or retirement strategy in place. That goes for filmers, photographers etc.

Not really a fan of hi tops, but unfortunately I think it’s using the same sole as the gamma. So no g6 foam but a generic foam midsole…

If you spend enough time digging, you can still find a number of sizes for some colors online. I still see them here and there, most not in my size, though

Zappos, Amazon, and select skate shops I've been to/seen online still have them: All White This is Skateboarding & Black/Tan/Orange

Maybe your size is sold everywhere tho if you've checked already?
