Best quality skate clothing?
« on: October 12, 2023, 09:27:32 AM »
I want some thick t shirts, I want some warm hoodies, I want some durable pants. What skate brands actually justify their markup?

I bought a bronze hat about a year ago. It’s the best fitting hat I’ve ever owned in my life. Talk a lot of shit on them but i’m gonna have to cop another

Tbh the best quality and best fitting Jean has to be the carhartt b17 and the Levi’s 550.

dime for hoodies
carhartt for pants

I have a long sleeve from Polar that is thick and warm.
For pants, nothing beats Carhartt

5.11 Tactical makes tough pants too. They even have a spot to stash your 9mm.

Independent trading co makes the thickest hoodies, best bang for the buck, I think it’s the indp4000 or 5000. Pants I wait for the Levi’s workwear pant to go on sale for twenty bucks. The tactical brand I wear at work not too great.

I really like everything I’ve gotten from Dime, which is a lot. The hoodies, sweaters, long sleeves/tees, beanies, hats are all quite nice. I would buy something from them every drop if I could.

I got a few nice things from Bronze too. A hoodie, hat, and some socks all nice thick material and well made.

Also very satisfied with my Volcom cords and CCS pants

According to SLAP...

Pants: Volcom, Carhartt, Dickies

T-Shirts: Polar, Pass~Port, Bronze, WKND

Hoodies: Thrasher ain't bad but not cheap, Spitfire, Pass~Port, maybe Huf

Some brands will be gold in multiple categories ^

Beyond that, I'm not as confident since I live in band tees, Volcom pants, nom-skate button ups, and non skate Levi's mostly. The skate shirts I do own are all over the place in quality so no real stand outs from my closet

thrasher hoodies are garbage most of the time, bronze t-shirts aren't bad but they're not top of the line too.

polar has great quality stuff, but it's getting more and more expensive every drop. 93s are the best skate pants imo. pass-port, dime and butter are good too.

Imo nothin beats the dickies loose fit double knee pants. Those with a plain old dickies t shirt and I’m guaranteed to have a good session. Also a big fan of the carhartt b11

Stay away from Sour stuff. Love the brand but clothing quality is quite subpar.

I’ve had good luck with Carhartt sweatshirts and Polar pants (93 denims and surf pants).

Picked up some Huf Cromer pants from the last drop and they seem to be on-par with Polar 93’s in quality.

I also really like the Carhartt loose fit washed duck utility work pant (thicker, nice amount of baggy) but I guess cause I sweat so much when I skate they always end up getting super discolored and faded after like five or six months.

echoing what's already been said about Polar, Volcom, and Buttergoods for pants- all have lasted me years of skating/chilling with no issues.

for outerwear if you like nice thick, comfy fleeces (and don't mind paying a bit more) I'd go with brands that use Polartec. I've gotten lucky on some resell sites where people listed Supreme and Palace Polartec fleeces for under retail and that material is so nice to have in the blistering cold months.

Other than that I really just buy a bunch of skateshop branded clothes for pants, tees, hoodies, and light jackets too and if they use champion, rothco, or comfort colors to print it on that's pretty quality to me

+1

Been wearing Volcom since their start...only recently started on Dickies (good sales and great ripstop cargo shorts).

When it comes to sweatshirts, American Giant. Thick and heavy as fuck...I hate skate branded sweatshirts...flimsy and thin.

T-shirts? If you don't care about doing brands free advertising, go with Next Level shirts off Amazon. Soft, a few different styles (good cut too) and you can get them CHEAP, less than $10 bucks at times/bundle deals too.

Dancer CPH has really great quality t-shirts if you can find them on sale! Polar is good too! For pants i just stick with Levi’s or carhartt.

Dickies heavy weight t-Shirts and longsleeves are the truth. Nice loose cuts, good colors and very durable.

Other than that my experience with skate clothes has been OK at best. A Santa Cruz shirt has been holding up well.

Probably too late since everyone’s already put their two cents in but I meant which skate brands make their shit on decent blanks, not what clothes are good for skating, obviously I’m aware Carharrt makes good pants etc

Thrasher sweatshirts were running through my head when i wrote 'flimsy and thin'

....but for my wide metatarsals Fastbreaks worked fine, the Louie's too.

Dickies pants and tees are legit tough and can take a beating. Also, some of the Vans chinos I've used have lasted me just as long as Dickies. Sometimes longer.

I mentioned Thrasher because a majority of my experiences outside of Slap have been positive with Thrasher hoodies: long lasting, didn't fade super fast, and didn't feel cheap according to the handful of homies that had them. Maybe Thrasher hoodies nowadays are "trash" but 6-7+ years ago that wasn't what I was seeing from people. Tempted me to get one but never did.

It better be considering it’s $300.

Magenta > Polar > Passport > Theories

I’ve heard good shit about Carhartt WIP and Dancer, but those price tags are unappealing.

All the shirts/sweats I’ve gotten from Ace have been made in the USA. Fit is a little weird and I wouldn’t say the materials are anything to write home about, but I hit the sale stuff and I’m happy.

For something of better quality, higher price point, and, for me (5’9” & 145 lbs.) a really nice fit, I like Imperfects a lot.

This. After buying a few a year ago and seeing how well they’ve held up compared with others, I think they’re a worthy investment. Have a thick crewneck that’s super warm and comfy, and fading nicely with each wash too. Top quality.
