fell so hard skating on campus today that my sunglasses broke and I tore my pants, in addition to skinning my knee and elbow badly. took all my composure to not start foaming and the mouth and cursing the sky. what's worse is this all happened after I did a presentation I was stressing about. so what I thought would be a victorious exit from campus turned into shit. I'm gonna go skate after my knee stops killing me

A friend of mine died in an avalanche while ski touring yesterday. I was supposed to go with that group but decided not to go since I haven’t skiied gnarly alpine terrain in about 4-5 years, I just wasn’t feeling it. No cell reception and a 20km skin hike from anywhere there’s life, I just wasn’t up to the task.

He was stuck in about 8 feet of snow + avy debris. All very experienced skiiers who know the terrain very well, all equipped with backcountry gear and they all knew how to use it. They dug snow pits before and took all pre-cautions possible... It didn’t matter, no one conquers Mother Nature.

Shit’s fucked up, follow your gut feeling, folks.

I’m a janitor for a school and it’s the most soul sucking mindless shit. I get treated like I don’t exist by most of the faculty and there isn’t any room for growth. I’ve been working there for about 5 years and have zero skills. No college degree no skills in any specialized work. I make a little less than 40k and I have no idea how to find a new job. I’m so depressed over this shit and my future I don’t know what to do. I barely get by paying my bills now and I don’t even know where to begin to start new.

I'm really sorry to hear that dude. I work for a company that works alongside the Northwest Avalanche Center and that shit in the backcountry is no joke. People often have the mindset that they're prepared to die when exploring the backcountry and unfortunately sometimes that happens. I heard of 2 people that passed away this weekend on Mt. Hood, and am sorry if one of them was your friend.

Been manic for a while now, but I can feel the depression creeping back to my brain. Find myself getting frustrated with things that generally would not bother me, and I feel myself getting mad/annoyed by little things like just doing my job.
I'm not sure what's triggered this, but I do not enjoy feeling this way, Pals.

I've skiied Mt Hood, the backcountry there is no joke. But no, this happened in the Chic-Choc Mountains in Quebec. Although not as big and vast as the west coast, this terrain is very steep, tight and technical. I've skiied the exact spot where this happened a couple years back and was quite nervous. There's a weird micro-climate there and it snows really hard all winter, the avy's  have been particularly bad this year.

thanks man. We are stressing, bc #1 was completely natural no meds.
The midwives and OBGYN we have been seeing are pushing for this ECV procedure where they try manually rotate the baby. But the DR’s don’t want to do it without some drugs/shit that relaxes the uterus.

I saw Starship Troopers, which is a guilty pleasure of mine, was coming onto Netflix on February 15th and I was all excited to watch it tonight and for some reason it's not streaming. Never seen a movie they teased to be on there not actually show up. I'm bummed!

Obviously your call man, but when it comes to a complication like that, I personally trust a Dr.

Hit my head today for the second time in the last two weeks. I've had many concussions throughout life and it has me wondering when they'll start to take a toll.

40 weeks / 9 months! So we close but now we can kind of prepare for a “normal” labor and delivery. Shits Wild

I knew 9 months but couldn't think about it in weeks lol. I've never been around babies as an adult until this past year and I'm 30, none of my sisters have had a kid, me neither. My girlfriends sister's kid is gonna be a year next month and it's really crazy to think about, shes like 35 and the first in their family to have a kid. I still have the visitors sticker on my fridge from when we went to the hospital and it feels like it was just a couple months ago. Glad to hear everything's going good, the whole process from pregnancy to seeing him get big is wild for sure! For once I think I might actually want a kid, need a couple more years of fun first.

Learned I'm gonna need another surgery, made me feel really anxious. I'm not worried about my health since I'm in good hands, but I am worried about how much I can skate. I'm only in my mid twenties now but I'm worried that I'm losing the finite time I've got to be physically active to my health issues. Has anyone got any nice stories about progressing after an injury or during that time frame in their life? I just wanna keep learning stuff but I'm worried I won't be able to sooner than I'd like.
[close]

Seeing as you're in your mid twenties, you should be just fine. Just take your physical therapy seriously and get all that you can out of it. Exercise will be crucial to you getting back to where you want to be, mentally and physically. To answer your question I fucked my ankle terribly when I was around 26/27 an was out for around 6 months. When I could push around I bought a vx and filmed to get out, see my friends, and stay active. Really helpful and got me to approach skating in different ways when I could get back on the board.

Also, when you are able to skate and pop and shit, skate alone for a few sessions. That helped me a lot to just get out, sweat, and skate without having to talk to anyone and get distracted. Plus no peripheral pressure to perform, which was huge in getting me to stay calm and patient throughout the recovery process.

Thanks man, really appreciate it

How long have you been together?
Granted I got my permanent visa years ago but I came over here with no idea and ended up claiming "de facto partnership".
So as long as I could prove we'd been together for a year (basic pics, phone records, I moved my bank acc to her place and a few references) we were sweet.

I'm not saying it'll definitely work bit it's worth a look.

I got that same line from this street dude I was helping as part of my job. The first time I worked with him I could tell he was in withdrawals, and now he seems like he's doing better. But we always have super hectic days and when he told me that I was like goddamn, today really was that bad, this dude is telling me I look tired? I went and looked in the mirror in the bathroom when I finished up his stuff and I looked fucked, my eyes had huge black rings from so much going on that day.

I also got a similar line earlier this week. It was, you look a lot better than last week! Lol.
