I'm in NZ and we are now getting the DLX China decks. Anything that isn't a classic eagle is now made in China. I picked up a Raney Bere's 9" pop and I thought I was getting a regular BBS deck but this wasn't the case. The China decks so seem to be considerably cheaper however. The concave and shapes are a pretty good replication but they are a bit steeper and they are stiff and a touch heavier. I guess it is good to have a cheaper option but I still prefer a BBS Mex deck to these new ones.

Here in AU and looking at the same situation.

Curious to see and try one of these, but I don't feel the need to grab one as soon as they get here.

* Also glad I stocked up on regular BBS boards too.

Doesn’t it seem weird that DLX's pro boards could be considered to be of a lesser quality than their team boards - the eagles? If you were GT or Mason or whoever wouldn't you be kind of bummed about that?

Maybe they can make more of them, which is cool if you're getting paid royalties..

If we are talking BBS wood vs China wood, they are still both considered "pro boards" regardless of what graphic is on them, especially when compared to the price point or budget wood that has been done in the past by BBS or other woodshops, which holds up well enough for some people, but was definitely a lower quality deck.

Also the fact that they are making boards in China to the same specs, concave and shapes (for the most part) at a lower price and then can ship them direct to whatever country round the world, it makes things way more cost effective and those boards can make it to shops everywhere at the same time as the catalogs are released, so I don't have to wait three months to get the DLX order from Mexico to SF / USA and then shipped down here to AU, but any which way, I guess there will always be those who can be objective, vs those who cannot about any give topic.  Sure I am a grumpy old man about some things, but I see this as a good thing in general, even if I do prefer BBS wood myself, as I have said in the past.

I can't say I have come round fully to the China made boards, but I do have some in rotation and I have become a bit more used to them now - little things like how stiff they are tends to throw me off, but that is one of the best selling points for some other people, who skate them and think they are great, keeping pop a lot longer than BBS made boards, just as one example.

Any which way, I am not a DLX rep, not even an indirect rep for any brand other than what I prefer and like to ride myself, so I have no interest in self promotion or get kickbacks from anyone, but I do like to have level headed rational discussions about anything to do with skateboard products, hence maybe the "too long" reply here.

To note, it seemed like a couple of pro riders did only want their product to be on BBS for a bit, maybe they still do, but I think now they have kept a short list of boards that will still ONLY be BBS, just to keep anyone happy who might have very negative things to say about product from China or elsewhere.

As I said in another thread / post the other day, it seems like for now, all AH eagles, Real ovals and twins, Krooked original eyes and Easy Riders are all still BBS only, then a few other specials here and there, but for the most part, almost everything else is now straight from the DLX woodshop in China, which keeps costs down and provides more product in a timely manner, without cutting corners on quality of the product.

* Maybe I should have been in sales...

Pro boards as in has the name of a pro on it.. like GT. Vs team boards that have the name of the company on them only, like ethe eagles.. Not related to quality. Except some might say inversely related in this specific case.

Ha yeah, all relative in the grand scheme of things.

I have no idea how many boards they sell or what royalties are given though, but I sure do see a lot of eagles round, maybe more because they are so easily recognised more so than individual graphics for specific pro riders.

Also wonder how many more Cardiel or Grosso boards sell compared to the newer pro team members in the current catalogs.  Seem to recall someone saying way back that a few guys sold ten times what some of the other guys sold on the AH roster, but I guess that could be said for almost any brand, where someone is a pro / legend status and someone else is maybe barely hanging on to any royalty cheque / selling much of anything with their name on it.

Finally saw on in a shop yesterday. I asked how they were and they guy kind of laughed and said they haven't sold any so he didn't know. His take was that yeah, it'll have more pop for longer but will still chip and get razor tail so they've really only solved one problem and for $115, that's a big sell for a lot of skaters who are still going to need to replace it in a month or whatever.

I fell on the sword and got an 8.5 antihero black eagle. It’s the same shape as the 8.5 Krooked Eyes/AH Eagle.

After 3 weeks it’s still crisp. The tail has a bit more wear, as expected. It’s lighter than a 7 ply, and it’s stiff but still has some flex to it.

For the price difference the standard BBS wood is still the better option imo. I’m not a big board breaker and swap boards about once every 4 weeks- so can’t speak on the long term wear or breakability of it.

My basalt deck is holding up really well. I break boards quick.
I have the 8.25 eagle. Originally i had venture 5.8s standards with 58mm wheels.
I landed a couple of times the same way i break other boards and it is still going strong. It developed a weird creak (so i thought) ended up being my bushings and cups on my trucks.
Switched to venture lows with 53mm wheels and its pretty good still. The pop is still crispier than a steep deathwish and mellow baker.
Would i buy it again? Maybe if they had other graphics on it. A krooked or more subtle graphic.

So far these review vids are not super inspiring... I suppose we need to see how they hold up after a month or so of solid skateboarding... Anyway, I am not rushing out to get a DBX just yet....

The DBX announcement on DLXSF was released on March 26th. The REAL Spring Drop 2 was released on the same day. Since then Krooked and Antihero released their Spring Drop 2 catalogs on April 3rd and 4th respectively. Neither of them include any mention of the basalt decks, only the Real catalog. I don't see this as a good sign.

There is a direct link on the main page, DBX CONSTRUCTION after HOME and FEATURES.

https://www.dlxsf.com/dbx/

Some other products just didn't seem to end up in catalogs too, Venture Koston trucks for example, which were released, had social media promo and everything, but didn't show up on the specific Venture site for a while.

The DBX boards were all over their social media for a while in the lead up to them coming out, or at least it seemed like I couldn't open a page without having something about DBX pop up for a minute.

There are more DBX boards on the way too, pro model variation as someone else said, etc but it is a fairly limited line - two of each shape from AH, Real and Krooked to start with, also very limited sizes / shapes.  I have no idea what shapes they cut for the team guys to test, but I am guessing they made each of their own shapes for them to ride, in much the same way that the tester wheels for the softer formulas came out in shapes that are not available in the retail market.

I don't really see it as something to worry about, or think anything otherwise, because there are still more drops of them coming and places like here will still be waiting for months for the product to arrive.

Just my thoughts anyway.

:)

I had one of these decks and fucking loved it. Lasted a noticeably long time, never broke either, and it was at a time that I was breaking almost a board a week.

I don’t remember this at all.
