Arto could have a whole resurgence with curb skating but chooses not to; there was even footage of him skating a parking block pretty easily in some documentary about him that came out recently. Maybe he’s on some “if it’s not me hucking down a rail or gap then I don’t want to do it” type viewpoint?

Arto, like a lot of used-to-be pros dont want to film or do that stuff because to them it isn't up to par to how they used to skate.

The ageism in skating is kinda wack right now. 30+ is now old head status. Everyone 30+ isnt out of shape or unathletic.. that Facebook group is a terrible representation for us "old" skaters.

Im refusing myself to go into curb skate only, like a lot of old pros. High or mid ollies are good for legs health, its similar to doing leg days on workout.

Agreed. Stopped jumping down shit in my twenties but that just meant more going over shit, trashcans out of banks have become my favorite. I’ll dork around on a curb or small ledge at the end of a session, or if I don’t really feel it certain days, but I can’t become that guy.

Just so I don’t misrepresent myself, I am 100% pro slappy session. I’m just saying don’t make that the only thing you skate and start pulling up lawn chairs with a cooler at every session. I hate seeing people who still have years left of solid skating feel like they’re too old to progress at anything besides slappies.

No need to break yourself trying to skate like a 20YO but you can still jump on a ledge or over a cone you know.

Soon 36 and seems that some people are just running for the recliner chair. I like skating slappies as much as anyone but if someone thinks at this age that it's all they can do, they're selling themselves short. And I'm far from athletic, I just skate a lot.

So far this thread is mostly dudes agreeing that old skaters should try harder, which makes it an unpopular opinion that skating is exclusively for fun and everyone should decide themselves what that entails - which is ridiculous in its own right.

Also: the only way to save skateboarding is for Thrasher to go bankrupt and FREE to take first place. Everything about that magazine is better, from photo to video curation to quality of articles and fashion sense.

Been saying this for a while.

There are plenty of skateboarders that I am great friends with, but if you're talking the entire population of skateboarders I would probably only actually get along with a minority of them.

I'm talking like get along with well enough to hang outside of skateboarding, not just coexisting at the skatepark.
