I mean vans did go through a stage like that and it literally took Rowley kicking and screaming to bring them out of it.
I don’t think eS is completey blowing it, the Swift is a great shoe as was the sesla and I’m really down to try some accel pluses. But yeah, the problem is with their reissues; I was a rabid fan back in the day but it seems like they have major trouble choosing which shoes to rerelease and when they do chose one, everyone is like why the fuck did you chose that model when you have such an epic legacy? 🤔

... and yes, skateshoedreams could do so much for them even with his throwaway colorways!

It’s too bad that they stopped producing new shoes like the Sesla to focus on Accels and re-issues. But then again, those shoes probably weren’t selling while their current models probably were so it sucks but it makes sense.

Es messing up their re-releases is like Vans not having old skools/sk8 highs/half cabs for sale, then when they go to re-release a classic they pick the Willy Santos 3.
We're more amazed at their bad taste at a time where skateboarding could use their skater owned-ness.

Yea I guess that makes sense. I only had accels back in the day so I don't have a ton of nostalgia for anything else.
i would wear all of these. Not super stoked on them but I think they look fine. Accel slims are way too thin for me though and OG accels run too small for me to wear.

So some shoes could be classic/understated and some could not, no?
Skate shoes, athletic shoes, shoes in general could certainly do with more original designs.
I like the theoretical design above, I like the Romero Chelsea a bit more. The mock up looks pretty supra ish in the toe, not a bad thing, I like penny’s shoe. I’d love a skateable chelsea with a thicker than shown sole, and some optional lacing for chilling/ripping.
It’s a dope idea.

Well that Romero High-ish one isn't as bad, but the whole lace saver thing that wraps over the foot seems silly. Airwalk already ran that into the ground over 30 years ago and there's a reason you don't see it anymore - it's ugly, and unnecessary. 

Those es' designs he did though? If you're even remotely feeling those we're too far apart to come to any understanding. I honestly thought he was trolling.

I'm a fan of that mock-up. A classic shoe will always exist. As long as there are no huge ugly logos involved and it's a cupsole with some padding, i'm down for experimentation.

Just gonna go ahead and give Emerica a big shout out since they're getting bashed on this page so much 

They're doing the best image wise of all the Sole Tech brands and they still make great shoes.
When the big companies are eating up their share of the market, you gotta cut costs and do what you can, so that's probably why we're seeing so many vulc options that look similar and really only 2 different cupsole styles.

They gave Dickson a shoe and didn't release any hot garbage reissues.

I haven't tried any vulcs from Emerica since the Francis mid which sole was garbage, but every cupsole I tried from them in the last 4 years were really great (Romeros, Reynolds Mids, and Reynolds G6). I think Emerica is in the middle of a transformation and I trust them into offering interesting things (the current Figgy and Spanky seems to be great shoes) in the nexts seasons.
eS seems to be lost, but Etnies is offering interesting things, and almost doing what eS should be doing: Innovative technology that works (Michelin soles etc.) and a big improvement in designs.
At this point the offering in the shoe market isn't that interesting:
-Adidas is a hit or miss from model to model, and Scott Johnston seems to blow it in most of its designs
-Appart from the Blazers, the janoskis and the unavailable Dunk, nike is not offering anything interesting.
-Cons has been stale for years and quality decreased a lot
-Lakai has improved but nothing from them appeals to me
-Vans quality is often shit, but Vans is Vans and you know what you get.
-State seems to be done? in Europe at least
-New Balance Numeric is interesting, but the sizing is all over the place and the availabilty (in Europe at least) is really low in terms of colorways and sizes
-DC shoes are offering interesting remixes of old models, but the new designs are kinda empty. At least the quality is there.

Today we have the 'Jericho', a low top sitting on the same sole as the 'hampton'

These shoes feature a new technology called 'lifeline', a super-strength, synthetic stitching in high wear areas.

(between you and me, I think its just colored stitching with a clever name, but at the very least it serves as a guide for your super glue application. Maybe it should have been called 'glue-guide' technology
