Wasn't this in the 'Olympics' pack that was initially set to release last summer?

Also, no one in the Olympics will be wearing these shoes specifically.

I don’t think so, it was like the “podium pack” but all the shoes were predominantly white uppers.

These ones are labeled as the “hyper beauty” color.

so what’s the deal with these new skate half cabs? i saw a post a little back about trying them on but has anyone skated em yet? are they same sizing as the pros? that harsh wrap on the heel looks kind of wonky. yet I’m still interested in trying a pair.

Same sizing as the pros, slightly stiffer at first, a couple mm shorter insole. Grip is great. Tongue straps are nice.
Skated them twice - still prefer other insoles like G6, Lunarlon, and Footprint.

My take:

+: look great (more like the classics), protect the tops and sides of your feet, snug and supportive, sturdy sole, grippy, extremely durable

-: collar and side panels are possibly too sturdy, foot feels sorta flattened down when wearing them

+/-: require breaking in before skating, becoming ubiquitous at my local.

Solid and totally arbitrary 8.9/10 for me.

Surprisingly, it seems the Reynolds line isn’t coming out until September.   I assumed it’d be before summer, but oh well

I was in crisis this week trying to decide between the 2- Would be my first pair of half-cabs, with the closest thing being Emerica Westgates.
Seeing something like this would have helped make my decision.
I shamefully bought both to compare  :-X

Would be sick if it was permanent or long running model and sets up his kid for a while.

From what I've heard + understood, the Mid will always be in the line (or I guess as much as the Low) and will from now on always have the Grosso branding.

I wonder why the mid isn’t as widely released here as it seems to be in Uk/europe

Really kooky otherwise - You know a black/white skate mid will sell well.

It's not much of a tribute if they're just using his name pro bono while he left a son behind.

Everything I've heard points to the all Skate builds of the Sk8-Mid in the normal seasonal line being re-named as Grosso Mid, and the royalties going to a fund for his son. Which is rad.

This is what I was looking for. I'm usually never on board with using someone's name to sell product if they've passed away unless it's for a good cause.

Anyone else notice it has the Ultracush 3D insole, rather than Popcush or other variant?

That is the one with the hard plastic heel to mid part isn't it?

These were in the TNT Advanced Prototype and the Chima shoes that I saw, but could also be in others.

Had a bit of a look and found this:

is that darker piece of the 3d insole plastic or gel? from the review it seems like it's plastic but is it really that stiff?
[close]
I think the material is likely the same hard plastic used for support (as opposed to cushioning) in the mid-sole of the  passport model, so not gel like at all.
[close]

it is HARD PLASTIC.  there's the light blue which is flexible, the darker blue which is firmer, but can move, and then there is the clear plastic which is extremely stiff.  I couldnt get it to bend with regular effort and I was sorta scared to crack em.

yea, the insole is essentially a removable mid-sole and it supplies ALL of the support for the shoe.  without it, the shoe is a sock.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

It's the Ultracush 3D insole, but my understanding is that it will also have the new sole construction for the Skate line (with a heel counter and the slightly deeper tread), so it shouldn't be sock-like if you switch the insole (I'm pretty sure the Chima 2 used a slightly thinner outsole, which rendered it too floppy even with the 3D insole), and it should be a little stiffer/more supportive than the rest of the line if you keep the insole in there. I think it's cool that the did that - makes it a little more different from the Sk8 hi, and better serves the target audience of a Grosso shoe (old men whose feet hurt).

Ultracush 3D sucks ass. Plastic part felt it didn't do anything and my feet were HURTING.

If they updated the insole to be as good if not better than Popcush, then that's great. But why not just upgrade to Popcush?

Where are you even seeing that the skate Grosso's are ultracush? Im trying to search and only see the sk8 mid pros from before the revamp having ultracush.

EDIT: Zumiez has it as having popcush
