alright, I'm back on af1's. currently on hard bushings but I'm still not as stable as I like. what's a good fit harder bushing for them? should I just get indy ones
Using an Indy bottom bushing will throw off geometry. IIRC Ace bottom bushings (board side) are 14mm and the tops are 12.
It would change - one mm lower for the Indy bushings than Ace bushings - but the black cylinder 94 Indy bushings are often a touch taller anyway, so they might actually work well enough and the fact that they might be lower means they will not turn as much either, which then equates to being more stable. Just a thought, but that is why Ace turn so much, with a taller bottom bushing, so lowering it a little means that it would be a bit more stable, by reducing the amount of turn.
I have put Indy bushings in Ace trucks before, which still worked fine, from the set I tried, but it is up to you. Indy 96 yellow cylinders are pretty stiff, but any of those - the black cylinders or yellow cylinders would firm up everything a bit more.
I’ll give that a shot, even thought about going back to the lows. I want to keep that high truck pop but I’ve been having a real truck crisis and been all over the place with my pop. Doesn’t help it’s summer break so my time on the board to tinker with this stuff is severely short. By far the worst madness I’ve had and it’s right before a trip where I’ll get to skate a significant amount
i relate.
i am no help, ive not had a setup with great pop, and af1s. it’s me.
i’ve had several setups that worked well with ace classics. mostly 14” wb, and big wheels. 55 classics were good with whatever tho, usually 14.25”, and didn’t need the big ass wheels like i did with classic 33s/44s.
i’ve yet to get my af1 44s poppin. i’ve tried a fair amount of decks, tried to do the short wb thing with big wheels, that kinda inexplicably worked for me with the classics.
i cannot figure out how my truck madness is ventures most of the time, and then ace and thunder. like a crazy person.
i recently went on a trip, and i was going to get to skate in a place i had always wanted to get a chance to roll around. hemmed and hawed, and then went with the throwback setup: something that i would have been able to skate, at any point in my skate life, but small by todays standards, 8 deck, 8 ventures, 52s. and it sucked. i sucked (given), but i just couldn’t believe how bad it all was. came home, got an 8.25, matching ventures, big ass wheels, and have been settled for 2 plus months which is a record for me in current times.
so rest assured, you’ll fuck it up. take the pressure off, you are as good as done.
