Is GT on ace now?

He pretty consistently has a signature truck with Indy, meaning he's actually collecting a paycheck from a truck company instead of accepting polyester beanies as scrip. Would be fairly interesting in a "state of the industry" way if he leaves Indy, but I doubt it.

I think that was someone else's board he was just borrowing, i doubt ace even pays their riders unless they have a collab truck. NHS has the money to pay someone like GT who is the greatest ever and has been on Indy since he was a grom. he could do anything on any set-up but at the end of the day, he's used to riding his stock indy's at however tight he keeps the nut. and he needs to stay paid.

I hear ya, but he also get's Nike blazer gt checks and I'm sure that affords him to give up a truck check to do a favor for Joey Tershay or whatever. Thank you for reading my GT fan fiction.

Rest of the components on that setup seem like what he usually rides.

So either someone was there with the exact same setup has his aside from Indys right when he needed to borrow a board.

OR

He's riding aces now.

There are clips of him riding other events over the weekend on the edit, but I didn't notice his trucks in those. If he's on Indys in those I might buy the board borrowing theory, but that doesn't seem as likely to me. Idk.

Him not riding Indys didn't seem likely at all to me either until today, also I really don't know.

True, 14:50ish he bails and you can kinda see the hanger.

Gonz to ACE is a pretty wild take. Gonz back to Venture or even Thunder is much, much more likely.

Not really, history has prove over and over than inverted kingpins just don't work.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

Gonz skates 10” trucks but DLX maxes out at 8.75” for Venture and 9.125” for Thunder.

Both takes are equally wild and unlikely.

Nah, you ain’t trippin’. At least not in MY estimation.
I eventually came to enjoy their grind, but always felt like the aluminum the Ace Classics use(d?) made it seem like any curb or ledge was coated in peanut butter or some other thick & sticky substance.
I don’t fuck w/ them balustrades anymore, but I imagine it’s prolly the same on all concrete grinding surfaces.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

Let's also not forget ACE's inability to ship a truck to market without any issues out of the gate...bending axles, fucked up pivot's shredding cups, those cuked up nuts without nylock. ACE accessories are top notch but I'd never by a 'new' truck design from them until after people have skated them and reported back.

My slappy ikp/GKs work great. Never have they come loose...only my indy-mids did. Seems that anything with the 'shaft-nut' setup has loosening issues (do the new thunders have this issue?).

Looks like they guy who posted them jumped the gun and had to take it down

But one thing he said about the kingpins is that they have 3 vertical grooves or channels in them, and a spring lock in the base that fits into the groove to keep the kingpins from shifting. So you can tighten the trick in 120 degree (1/3 turn) increments

The top cap and washer combo looked super clean too. You need a special but to tighten it, but it fits into a skate tool.

It's probably the heat causing the comparatively soft alloy in classics to feel even more soft than usual.

I assume you're in the US right?

I've been feeling this way about my 99a f4s recently, and am about to throw on some 101s for the rest of the summer.

Temperature dependent setup is some total psycho shit, and I don't care lol.

We haven't had any Ace issues the last year or two other than the axle nuts. When kids buy Ace from us I replace the axle nuts immediately. The re-threading nuts always come loose fairly quick. Our shop is near a skatepark and it became pretty predictable how many kids would come in with a missing nut.

Otherwise the one issue we have is people refusing to ride harder bushings and cranking the stock so much they blow out. That's their own fault and the replacement bushings are cheap enough that it's pure stubbornness and not the trucks. I personally love both Ace grinds and appreciate them for what they are. AF1 seem to have a slightly smoother grind.

I agree. First thing I swap out the default re-threading nuts, and replace stock bushings with Ace hard set. Not too much hassle in my opinion, but I wonder if the re-threading nuts stay tight for anyone, including team riders.

I’ve actually no issues with the AF1 rethreading nuts, but a bunch with Ace Classic normal axle nuts. The small nuts they had in Ace Classics at some point I threw out immediately as they seemed too crazy. Still would prefer just normal nuts that work fine.

Really waiting for the inverted kingpins as I like to do slap pies a lot and the kingpins start wearing down very fast even with just 50-50s. I’m seeing them being available late June or early July. Anyone have anything more specific? I asked the local and they said that they’ll likely get them when they come but no idea when that is.

Would love to have a Ti axle and hollow kingpin Ace AF1 model. Yes, the 30g between Indy 159 Ti and Ace AF1 Hollow 60 matter to me.

Re swapping over the Ace nuts - yes that seems fairly common too.  I think one set even from new were so close to being able to just put on with fingers, I didn't even need a tool, then thought better of it and swapped in regular nuts right away.

As a different story, I had one guy who must have skated the same wheels for the life of the trucks and never even touched the axle nuts after putting them on, as the back truck was down to axle and his 60 mm wheels were maybe still at 59 mm or so - the Kanfoush Conical Full 60 mm wheels.  I only noticed because of the red nyloc and then checked and sure enough, it might be the only set I have ever seen last, but maybe for everyone else with normal use and always swapping over wheels, the red nyloc just wears out a lot faster than on the regular nuts.

* I am still yet to even see or try a set of the Ace Hard bushings, but I also think most people I know who ask for Ace usually ride fairly loose anyway, or have since swapped back to other trucks.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I automatically swap the stock bushings for the hard ones any time I set up AF1s. It's an easy fix, but he probably doesn't care. Tom Penny has IG posts where you can see the bushings mashed down and multiple threads showing. They definitely don't have truck madness.
