If you don't get wheelbite you're not riding loose enough.
52s with 1/8 inch risers you could ride hella loose with no wheel bite.  I ride 52s with no risers loose and get wheelbite pretty rarely.

I think he meant that you don't get insta-wheelbite when you turn because it's not linearly loose from center to max turn. It's like the trucks are loose for 90% of the turn, you start to get a significant resistance only in the last 10%, if that make sense.

Pretty much. If you cannot get wheelbite the trucks are fucked up. Ace does not bite as easily as others, even though it’s not as high as many. Never skated the lows, imagine they bite easily. Headed back to 33s. Also possibly looking for 1st gen. I don’t need my shit to last forever

Has the kingpin clearance improved significantly at all since V1? That's what I'm on right now and I love the turning, but I'm getting to that point where the kingping is getting hung up on shit repeatedly from grinding the hanger down. From what I've seen with the revisions are strictly to the hanger (which looks beefier so maybe there's a few added mils of extra space?), but the baseplate and kingpin seem unchanged from what I've read.

Yes, the kingpin is shorter. I knocked them out to replace with Thunder hollow kingpins (which are significantly lower than Ace stage 1 kingpins) only to find out that the difference in length is negligible.

Still better than brand new Thunders  :D.

Thanks man, appreciate the info, about how significant is the difference? Don't need like exact measurements or anything just curious since I'm considering upgrading to the newer revisions at some point.

Putting the new kingpin side-by-side with the old one, it's a night and day difference. Although when the truck is put together, it doesn't look like there's a whole bunch of kingpin clearance. I've not experienced any serious hangups, though.

I skate 44 and 55 for cruiser and they feels great. I just had to superglue all of the kingpin nuts cos they kept loosening and falling off. That's more like when loose trucks end up lives I guess.

My Ace 66's came with a very poor quality locking nut. There was a tiny amount of nylon on the very top of the nut. Replaced it after the first time the hanger fell off.

Maybe you had the same issue.

^Yup, seems pretty common 'cos each of those 4 nuts had the same problem. 44 came also with those stupid small axel nuts with same problem, replacing helped. Pretty ridiculous quality problems but still can't see myself going back to Indy/Thunders.

Trucks were sounding a bit odd today and I checked the pivot cups as everything else seemed to be ok and they were looking like this (old one on the right):

Torn to shreds. Thankfully I had an extra set of Ace pivot cups on me to replace them with before I made my mag plates gape for all eternity.

Anyway. Are the Ace replacement cups gonna get torn the same way? I was looking at the Riptide pivot cups but they cost 14 dollars plus 15 dollars to send them to Finland. Paying almost 30 dollars for pivot cups seems a bit excessive. If anyone knows a place with cheaper shipping to Europe, I might be willing to give them a shot if they're really worth it. 🤔

I’ve ripped the newer Ace cups and riptides from slappies. No pivot cup is immune to destruction. Therefore, go for the replacement Ace cups and save your money.

Cool. Thanks. Ace pivot cups are less than 5€ from my local so I can get like 5 sets of those for the price of Riptides and I can support the local instead of some longboarding company.  :)

Thinking about getting a pair of aces, coming from indy 159’s,  should i go with 55s or 66s? I ride 8.75”-9” popsicles and wider wheels(F4 conical full, OJ mini combo etc.)

I will say, Riptides do offer a better feel when dialed in with your favorite bushings. And they never squeak throughout their life span.

I am very happy with stock Aces. These pivot cups got thrashed somewhat quick but I’m alright with that. I’ve had truck madness before and am still in recovery so I’ll try to avoid any unnecessary tweaks. With that said, I really want to give Krux kingpins a shot. 🤔

New 55s. Debating taking some parts off, like the washers, or shaving down the bushings. Suggestions?

Shave down top bushings, or get ACE low bushings and use the tops.

How are 44’s on an 8”? Am I right in saying you can run no inside washer because of the hangar shape?

From what I've seen and used, the minimum for 44's is/should be 8.25

Tried a 8.125 and wasn't feeling it at all

could probably get away with them on a 8.18 but yeah, 8.25 and up for the most part

Measured a bunch of 54 mm Spitfires on Ace 44s with one washer on the inside. Wheels are exactly flush at 8". How it skates on an 8" I wouldn't know as I haven't skated anything that small in ages.

Did this recently, and while it didn’t work, I think it was more about me and the board not getting along

Impulse bought the an 8", they fit fine! Used to run 56mm Conical Fulls which i think would have been problematic but I've just switched up to 53 classics and the wheels are perfectly flush, how I like it. One washer on the inside, may take it out if I feel the need to.
