Not sure if anyone saw Ace’s IG post… Looking like they are about to introduce a hollow kingpin version AF1?

So hollow kingpin only?

instatizio_ltp
@acetrucks but are we talking about kingpin hollows or "everything" hollows? 🤔 55 af1 hollows would be the ultimate truck

acetrucks
@instatizio_ltp We talkin bout everything.

Guess I will wait to get aces til they are out. Hopefully soon.

Are there any problems with putting classic hangers into af1 baseplates or the other way around?

if some of you guys actually think that back/hip pain is attributed to Ace Trucks, you should probably buy some different trucks.

I don't think trucks actually have anything to do with back pain.

Ace classics and AF1's are not compatable swapping hangers and baseplates in either order.

Finally got my classics and it seems like they're interchangeable with af1. The classic hanger fits pretty tight into the af1 baseplate, the af1 hanger fits nicely into the classic baseplate. Might wiggle a bit once the pivot cup gets broken in.

The classic hanger's pivot point is thicker than AF1's, you will eventually get baseplate warp in the pivot cavity. Same result with an AF1 hanger in a classic baseplate, the extra wiggle room will warp and break the pivot cavity since it's more brittle than the "molecular strength" of the AF1 baseplate. Their geometries are also not the same even though Ace claims it to be, and you'll notice the kingpin clearance is worse when you mix.

That sucks, thanks for the information though.

Btw what's up with ace sizes. My af1 44s that should be 143mm are only 139 and the 55 classics that should be 162 mm are only 159. They're consistently smaller than advertised.

I guess the 55s are the 8.75 trucks everyone is asking for

are you measuring the cones on the hanger also? that adds a few mms in width.

Yes, they also differ in size and are not even straight. 1mm wider on one side of the truck

Hard to tell if the pivot cups you see online are for Classic or AF1. Haven’t found either in any shops around

A bunch of sites just show them out of the bag and it isn't helpful, but the AF1 pivots are branded as such and have different packaging. The classics aren't as thick and taper to a smaller point.

AF1:

Yep, this is Ace's notorious quality control and regular measurements. The only thing going for them now is the AF1's seem to have no issues after they solved the pivot cup/cavity thing people were experiencing that caused the cups to rip. No bent or slipped axles reported yet, no loose kingpins, unless I missed it.

Did anybody see the ace video on youtube? Something about hard bushings. Seems like they deleted it again. Some top secret hollow axle/low footage or something?

Four wheels and a deck, 8 nuts and bolts but 6 will do. Engage Nylock and get grinding.

Intriguing.
I spent a very limited amount of time on my af1 44s: I just liked the classics more, decided that I liked a smaller setup/trucks (should have gotten 33s), and decided to just stick with Ventures. All of that aside, a firmer bushing/pivot cup would definitely work better for me.

"Satin Lime."

Looks like the 60s have hit Aus. Not sure I'd ride coloured trucks again but these do remind me of the anodized Stage Vs I used to love. Either way, the 8.75" axle is what I am after. Probably a few of them sitting on a cargo ship outside of Long Beach until Jah lets them dock.

Do AF1s have axle bending problems? Or are they improved that from classics?

Seems like less people have had issues with axle bending on the Af1s. (I have taken three sets of Classic 44s and two sets of 55s almost to axle and never bent the axle.)

Having held my own bent Classics alongside my warranty replacement AF1s, I’d say that they visibly increased the size of the truss which would lead me to believe that the problem is mostly solved.
This is not my SOTY. I'm telling my kids there was no SOTY for 2021

Seems that way.
I have zero pop with the af1s. It’s a me issue. The classics popped a lot better for me tho.

ACE throws out some random ass colorways.

I can only imagine broken in ACE hard bushings are the jam. Similar to how broken in hard bones end up as forever mediums (until they blow out).

I still haven’t skated my AF1s, but I also loved the pop on my Classics. My hope is that the AF1 increase the strength while keeping the geometry similar enough to what I know.

Anyone remember the older stage Ace's when they beefed up the hanger for the first time? Back before they were "classics", and they had off white/yellowy stock bushings that were pretty hard? I wish they brought that formula back, you could just take off the top washer and they were the perfect bushings that lasted forever. New ones are great and all with the rebound but I imagine even the new "hards" probably are still soft for heavier dudes like me. The ones that come stock on Ace's now are pretty dang soft.

Also yeah, I haven't seen one report on here or in the Ace IG comment section of an AF1 axle bending so it seems like they def solved it with those.

Would steep decks like hockey/fa be a good choice for low ace trucks in your opinion?
