As a newer Ace convert from Thunder I was just getting settled in with classics after trying and not liking AF1s… I guess I’ll have my sights set on Thunder T2s next if Ace really cans the classics

I skate classics and my friend had some brand new AF1s on his board so I had a feel. The turn on the AF1s felt completely different to my classics. Deeper, looser and more twitchy. Am I tripping or has anyone else noticed anything like this? I'm due new trucks soon and I'm not sure what to get

i don’t agree with your opinions that the af1s have a deeper/twitchy turn, compared to the classics.
it’s been too long since i tried them back to back, so i’m probably full of it. here’s what i remember: classics turned more sharply/deeper, for certain more turn.
i’ve had 33s/44s/55s in the classics. 55s felt slightly different, and i couldn’t always get the skate tool wrench on the kingpin nut, easily. the 55s felt more stable than the others. loved em
only af1s i had/have are the 44s. the pivot cup loosey goosey stuff kinda pissed me off with those, i prefer a firmer pivot cup, like an indy, that kinda springs things back.
i didn’t give af1s enough time. i struggled with popping. i got wheelbite all of the time. i’m a baby.
ace classics worked best for me with big ass wheels.

Probably felt more twitchy because they were brand new and not broken in yet. AF1s are more stable than classics due to the wheelbase being pushed out slightly more

I tried the ace hard bushings but couldn’t get those to work either. Does a bushing or bushing combo exist that’s hard enough to make the trucks feel stable without having to crank the kingpin nut down an absurd amount?
Also to note I tried bones hard bushings and they were too short, the af1 kingpin is long as fuck.

Arbor Whiskey completes come with Ace Classics.  44s on the 8.25 and 55s on the 8.5.   You can sometimes find the completes cheap.  This one with Ace Classic 44s is under $60 with code SENDIT

I don’t think I gave the bushings a proper amount of time to fully break in. I think I tried 2 or 3 sessions at like an hour a piece. I still have the hard bushings in the trucks that have sat in a box since the last time I rode. It’s nice weather today so I might as well give it another go.

Give them a little more time.  I’m a little bigger than you at 6’ but floating around 210. I run the hard bushing flush and maybe one thread on my back truck. Last session I was debating on putting stocks back on.(I think I’d regret it soon after) but they do firm up some.

After @Gene_Harrogate uploaded their IKP retro video, @Francis Xavier and I got excited and swapped essentially ALL of our trucks to IKP. The Slappy IKP is a little shorter than the Ace kp though so my trucks were feeling a little tight. Luckily I remembered I had stashed my Ace Low soft bushings so I replaced the conical bushing and now they're literally perfect. Shaving the bushing surely works just as well but with the low bushing it gave me the extra room I needed.

hell yeah dude love that. that's been my trick for years, always run the ace low top to maximize the clearance. if you wanna take it even lower grab the 2hex kingpin since it's the same as the OG krux:

i know that indy bushings fit just fine in ace trucks, i've swapped them out before with no problems when some ace bushings cracked on me.  i believe the ace hard bushings are 94 duro, and indy makes a 96 duro bushings (the yellow ones) maybe try those?

i had the same problem until i read in this thread a couple pages back that with aces, you have to pop with your back foot closer to the bolts and it solved the issue
