I never tried Ace Classic or T2 but I like my AF1 a lot.
When I first got them, they were the loosest trucks I’ve ever had but got used to it quickly. Then, I got Tensor Maglight ATG and Thunder standard Team and both of those are noticeably looser than my Ace. All of them are flush at the kingpin, basically stock settings.
Only thing I’d say is a disadvantage is AF1 don't seem to pinch as well but you can manage.

Love all those options. But something about the Classic Ace turn is unmatched for curbs and tight transition IMO. AF1s are great also and might be better for you if you like a tad bit more stability and a  more durable truck. (Consider Ace hard bushings).

 I just got some T2s but I am only one session in so can't say but first impressions are the turn is amazing and I have always preferred the harder grind on Thunder. Thunder are also a fair bit lighter unless you start getting fancy with hollow and IKP Ace....

Will do. I will say the bushings have already firmed up nicely. Skated curbs and flat not them yesterday. Thinking I'll try them on transition and maybe a jersey barrier today.

Between classics and af1 - Af1, unless you reallyyyyyy need that ace classic turn

Between ace and t2, t2 imo. If you skate ledges and curbs, the better pinch and kp clearance (unless you get inverted aces) are pretty noticeable benefits. Plus they turn great also so I struggle to imagine you'd find the turn limiting vs aces

There's something that feels really good about Ace Classics, they carry a certain mojo. Somehow the grinds are extra buttery.

But I can't ollie for shit with them. Not that that's not a me problem, of course.

True. Everytime I put classics back on my setups, it felt just right. I never really got used to Af1s and if I want Ace I'm sticking to classics . T2s feel intriguing and if they ever put out a 9" truck Im getting those.

Thanks for the insights. I picked up some AF1 55s. I just went with the non-hollow variant. Felt a little heavy at first ( coming from T1 ), but I just dropped a couple millimeters in wheel size to compensate. I may go back up once I shave a few grams off the hangers on my local curb.

No clicks on mine. I just swapped the hangers out for wider hollow ones and still no click. My Tensor Maglights click but I don’t really care. From what it looks like, it’s the top washer hitting the hanger on sharp turns. I could be wrong on which washer is hitting though.

It could be different things for different people, but the click almost always came from the top washer binding on the kingpin nut, usually when people tightened it down a bit when they first put the trucks on.

Some said the click went away if they loosened the nut off and wore in the bushings a bit better, others said it went away in a session or two anyway, but the easiest way to prevent the click is to put something between the top washer and the nut / wax the bottom of the kingpin nut, or even wax the washer, the top side or the under side, as any of those options would stop it from getting stuck from the pressure of the bushing, the washer and the kingpin nut on top.


There could be other things happening with the setup / trucks though, so that is most definitely NOT the only answer, as per others on here before with various things, but I think that is the most common source of the click - between the top washer and the kingpin nut, when pressure is applied and it is forcing it to one side or the other on the kingpin.

Washers without the extra bit of gap around the center hole for the kingpin tend not to do this, as per some brands, but this can happen in any brand truck with any brand bushings or washers, just depending on the situation.

I’m looking for an IKP truck and the Ace AF1 hollows look pretty sweet. I’ve skated the classic 8.38s before and liked them, I remember my grinds holding really nicely and I was able to get away with some sloppy landings from the squirreliness. How do AF1 hollows wheelbases compare to Indy and Thunder? Same as Ace Classics? I remember running those on the Deluxe 8.25 and 14.38 wheelbase shape. Also are the IKPs pretty solid? Mostly a ledge, curbs and flat skater here

Ace QC strikes again. Two sessions on these. Kingpin hole is ovaled out causing the kingpin to sit off center.
Warranty should cover this but damn.

yeah they'll get you sorted out, but that is annoying and shouldn't be happening. def loosened plenty of ace classics kingpins and busted the pivot cavity multiple times. even had loose kingpins on the AF1 lows. but they were quick to respond and try and make it right.

I don’t use the rethreader  I think I read on slap (I think) if you get AF1s just put normal nylock nuts on. So I put the ones from old trucks on and never looked back

Just bought a pair of 33 AF1 hollow lows, pretty excited to set them up on 8/7.75 decks that have 6.5 tails or less. I used to set up my v- hollow low 5.2s on them, but the pop and manuals just weren't feeling right. 🤞🏽

I wouldn't use any of the nuts that come with the AF1 even with the nylock those nuts are rethreaders and carve grooves into the axle anytime to twist them. Axles are finger tight up til the nylock and hopefully you got enough meat on the axle to grab on. Ace runs their shit pretty tight on the axles. can't do 3 rings on the inside and tighten down. Not enough room.

I can semi-produly say I have bombed a hill atleast 5 time since posting this, twice in the rain. Not ideal but I haven’t time to fix. The rethreader just feels more secure for now.

Tomorrow I might just buy some new trucks, mine still got life but even before this I been worried about my back truck it’s all sharp from getting hung up and pushing up curbs. It just make me thing it’s gonna pop my bushing or something

This reminds me, if flipping the lock nut around failed I used to melt a pieces of plastic bag onto the axel the put the nut on over it to make my own lock nuts.  Probably didn’t work that well but it kept me skating that day. Also used to bomb hills like that

Just picked up some Ace classics 44s from the local shop warlier this week and i am so glad I did. Ive rode Classics a few years ago, ive rode AF1s more recently. I think its safe to say i enjoy the classics more than the AF1s. Forgot how good they feel. On the first sesh last night with the classics everything felt perfect. The turn felt amazing instantly....and there is something about the grind feeling that feels good with them. Deff recommend giving classics a try if you like Ace and have only rode AF1s.

I think its safe to say i enjoy the classics more than the AF1s. Forgot how good they feel. On the first sesh last night with the classics everything felt perfect. The turn felt amazing instantly....and there is something about the grind feeling that feels good with them. Deff recommend giving classics a try if you like Ace and have only rode AF1s.

Hard to beat. Shame there is no classic 8.75" though.

Back to report that beyond rain sessions I have also survived a snow session on the rethreader.

Had to change bearings and l was hoping it would have retreaded but no luck so im back to a new rethreader that feels a little tighter

Monday I will attempt to procure some new trucks, I know my shop [sister] doesn’t have them, it’s a punk rock store [smash] that I think/hope might have some, if not may have to shop with zumiez or wait till I can get to Baltimore [vu] or Fairfax.

I skate the af1 low hollow with doh doh medium bushings. I’m probably the only person to do this but I feel like it made the trucks tighter without squishing the bushing maybe I’m making this up

Close to my old setup with the hards since both 94a. But I couldn’t find a comfortable spot. I felt like I cranked them ( not sure if I actually did. This is my first set of inverted trucks.) and I would be like this feels close and then I’d skate around and it would start feeling kinda lose or not stable.

Do I just need to run them til the top bushing stiffens up? Also  since I can’t see how cranked they are should I loosen them to let them form up like normal bushings I leave stock for a bit then tighten after a few sessions. But idk where stock is on these. Should I just tighten to comfortable and stable and let them firm up? Also debating on cutting my old 94a stock tops down to 9mm and using them?  Thoughts on best route to take? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks pals

The clicks you hear when tightening them indicate how far down you’re cranking them. Three clicks is one full rotation.
I put af1 low hard bottom bushings in mine and it didn’t feel nearly as noticeable as regular Ace hard bushings on a standard KP AF1.

Also my top bushings blew out within like a month of skating them. I replaced the top washer with a standard one and that sorted that out for the replacements since it’s slightly larger, in case you run into that.
