I just found out that almost every episode of the 1980s Granada series The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes has been uploaded to YouTube in high quality.
RIP Jeremy Brett.

There was an 80s movie about young Sherlock that used to freak me out as a kid

This one? If so, I'm a big fan. It's an Amblin production and is kind of the end of a cycle they started on with Temple of Doom where their movies turned darker. Though I saw it the theater and still think it's pretty scary, it was a bomb.

Hellyeah. The cupcake bad trip scene was a personal favorite when I was a kid.

I remember a gargoyle scene maybe?   Would come on at night on channel 13 and freak me out

No idea why they'd even try to make that. Aus tv is absolutely stinkin lately. New show on Netflix called territory also stinking.

Not new but if anyone wanted an office based comedy from Aus that's actually decent maybe try "utopia"

I watched Terror.. I’ve been inspired to draw slightly different after seeing something in the s .

I’m ightve written about it but whatever. I love nautical shit. One of the captains in the flick is also a captain and one of my other favorite movies about a cursed voyage from England to I believe Australia.

I forget the name of that movie

It’s def worth checking out the next thing he did: Severance on Apple+.  S2 coming in January (but let’s not forget he directed Reality Bites, Zoolander, Tropic Thunder, The Cable Guy so he’s def been killing it for a bit)

I think he was also supposed to play Matthew Broderick's character...

And looking up the IMDb trivia:

The late Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Paul Giamatti, the late Phil Hartman and the late Robin Williams were considered for the role of the Cable Guy before Jim Carrey was cast.

While filming of the scene in which The Cable Guy plays basketball, it became obvious that Jim Carrey could barely dribble a basketball, nevermind make a basket. Ben Stiller had Carrey mime the action without a ball, and VFX added the basketball in post-production.

Ah i love the IMDb trivia section

Not Netflix but I've been absolutely loving this 1973 WW2 series The World at War. Nothing but war footage, narrative and interviews with those who were there. 1 hr episodes, 26 total. All on the tube

I can't recall which of the three movie threads had a little Cronenberg bump in the recent past but this seemed like the right thread. Criterion is running a early Cronenberg marathon at 6p EST today that repeats once. First up is Rabid, followed by Scanners, The Brood with the 1970 Crimes of the Future closing it out. Of course, all of this stuff is up for the month and can be streamed another time. But if you want some body horror from the guy who kinda invented it, there's a 10 hour loop of it going today. Criterion has a 7 day trial if you're on a budget.

I finished Escape At Dannemora last night. It’s one of the of the most consistently engaging tv series I’ve seen in a long time.

Last night I also learned that Patricia Arquette briefly dated Gator (according to Wikipedia).

Yeah I actually watched a bunch of documentaries about it afterward because I actually never heard about it...they nailed everything from the get go...the episode where they show everyone past was really dope!

I started watching that Doc on Max about Yoga it looks promising

Not on Netflix, but The Penguin on Max has had me in a chokehold since the first episode. The series comes to an end this Sunday and I cannot wait to see what's going to happen. Sucks that we'll have to wait until 2026 for the next Batman, but at least this is satiating my desire for more gritty Batman stuff for the time being.

Same, Penguin is dope. HBO knows how to make good TV

on I a side note I actually like the Joker sequel....even with the musical context.

Yup, totally defied my expectations. Loved the little hints at connections to The Batman II towards the end. They turned Oz into a pretty terrifying person in this and to top it off with him having an Oedipus Complex just adds to how disgusting his character is. Excited to see how they incorporate this ending into the beginning of Batman II.

Gat dang I must be a hater because I thought the penguin was pretty average.
If it wasn't linked to batman and Oz was just some guy everyone would be like yeah whatever it's fine I guess. Then when they did do batman stuff it felt cheap like one of those green arrow, the flash shows.
I don't want to see anymore of the penguin if they do the batman 2. Give me a (somewhat) realistic killer croc or egghead or something new.

I thought this was a movie not a series and I was so confused when the first episode ended.
It was working for me as a movie

To continue FX fucking everyone’s shit up:

Say Nothing - a woman tells her story being recruited by Gerry Adams into the IRA.   Only one ep in, but you can tell it’s going to keep being good

Other things that are out (but haven’t seen)

Day of the Jackal (peacock) with Eddie Redmayne

Cross (prime) based off those Alex Cross books.  Amazon seems to be doing well with airport paperback type books and they renewed it for s2 months before this came out

Oh man, Delours Price is an entity unto herself. Patrick Radden Keefe wrote a really good book based around her and some of the people that she helped to "disappear". Same name as the series, so I imagine that a good portion of the story is based around his book and research.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.
