Burning through Black Rabbit right now, super good watch, not a huge Jude Law fan but he’s good in this so far.
Bateman kills it of course, also directed the first episode.
With long hair and beard he resembles Alex Olson.

The Lowdown with Ethan Hawke on FX is pretty great so far.   Written by the guy who did Reservatoon Dogs.   In the vein of those “private eye amusingly gets the shit kicked out of him along the way”.   It’s got Killer Mike, Dinklage, Macon Blair, Kyle MacLachlan, Tracy letts

Just finished it... pretty damn good. The music "video" of them two was a bit much, but still solid lol

Coworker turned me on to Chit; it’s also on tiktok or instagram. Comes from the Groundlings improv theater company. Amazing how much plot and character development they created in one to five minute episodes:

This guy gives me a lot of Forte vibes. I couldnt watch. Just seems like hes biting one of his characters or maybe a voice?

I see the similarities now that you mention it, but it doesn’t prevent me from enjoying the show. I think Chit is a lighter character than some of what I see Forte playing. I remember cringing through Last Man On Earth before I chose to quit watching, and I haven’t kept up with Forte since.

Will Forte's best contribution to comedy was Fortin' with Will on Tim & Eric's Awesome Show. Great Job!

Law and Bateman really nailed that Brooklyn accent. It was really good though. The pacing and visuals was like Uncut Gems. Fun watch all the way through.

Play Dirty on Prime is a fun heist movie.  Shane Black of Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang wrote and directed.

28 Years Later is on Netflix..  I have fond memories of going to a test screening at a cinema my buddy managed.  Got to watch it alone in the theater the night before it was released, so I felt a little dodgy about expecting much, but was encouraged that it was back in Boyle and Garlin's hands.

Really compelling story...  I just lost my dad, so the father son narrative was especially touching to me.  It also meditated on some other things that I thought were super prescient..  And it was all shot on an iPhone, which was super impressive.

House of Dynamite is really good.

I think people might take issue because it’s telling a very limited in scope story, but they’ll want it to keep going.  Kinda like Leave the World Behind

Fully back Black Rabbit.  I know some people didn’t like it, but yes it did have the energy of Uncut Gems.

Task had been great as well.  Just wish it wasn’t weekly.  I liked the new season of Monster.  Felt like it was better than the one about the Menendez brothers.  But had to give it a minute though to get fully into it.

My 75 year old mother is loving it, she just kept asking me is Richard Speck in it?  My father too.  I don’t know why those two geriatrics are obsessed with him.  They read a lot of true crime when I was a kid, so I did too.  Probably why my minds jacked today!

Task is pretty good…it is a slow burn and it takes a minute for things to get interesting first two episodes didn’t really do it but the latest episodes is some of the most gorgeous shot and directed pieces of TV

Robbie is the star …mark ruffalo is okay, kinda unlikable in some episodes

The Chair Company with Tim Robinson is pretty good so far it’s only the first episode but I’m digging it, then again I’m a fan of his work but I could see how people that aren’t feeling him wouldn’t be into this show but good story and premise.

Also watched The Substance finally, holy shit was an insane wild ride that was.
Reminded me of if Spike Jonez did a Requiem For Dream remake while tripping on acid and threw in a couple episodes of Black Mirror and Twilight Zone in the mix.

Disturbing is an understatement to describe the film in one word but on the bright side that Margaret Qualley is smoooooking hot, can’t believe she’s Andie McDowell’s daughter that’s wild.

Is it?  I like anything that pisses the Pentagon off but I thought the show was aimed for teenagers

Smoke on Apple+ is pretty solid so far.   Was waiting to bank up a bunch of eps.   Written by Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone and Shutter Island Books, wrote on the Wire) about arson investigations

I just finished listening to all the Kenzie and Gennaro books. I think they need to make this into a series. One season for each book. Especially because you'd get to go back to the Gone Baby Gone storyline in the final season.

Sorry for the double post, this thought just came back to me after looking at the books thread.

Been thinking that for awhile - it’s why I haven’t dipped into the books.   Makes sense GBG is the finale, wasn’t sure that was the book’s ending or created for the movie

GBG isn't the finale. Moonlight Mile is, it's set about 12 years after GBG, then there's another in between the two. If nothing else, I think Bubba deserves better treatment than what he got in GBG.

Dept Q got great reviews but so far the writing seems terrible, characters don't feel authentic, and it just has been boring. Does it pick up?

Welp got an email saying that MAX is going to jack up the price...will likely be cancelling

I think I'm just going to pay for (1) streaming service each month and will rotate among Netflix, Hulu, Max, and Plex

Only pet peeve about Black Rabbit is the soundtrack - for some reason sooooo many shows are using  Fontaines DC - Starburster, strokes - You Only Live Once, and Interpol lately that it bugged me it used all three.    Don’t know if it’s just one lazy music supervisor in New York programming this shit or what
