There was an awesome shop around my area for a long time that would never have any seasonal sales, mainly because they had all the best brands and a loyal customer base, but I remember being in there the week before Christmas when a customer came in asking for a few completes for his kids and if he should wait til the boxing day sale, to which the owner replied that they don't need to have boxing day sales as they have the good stuff always slightly discounted and a dedicated sale / clearance area all year round. The customer didn't seem to get it and was confused, but it is one of those things where they always had options, new full price or discounted clearance stock.
One interesting thing to note this year is most shops / accounts are having big sales on shoes and clothing, but not a whole lot on hardware. Makes sense though, seeing as there is not a huge amount of hardware around, and everyone has a lot more shoes and clothes to get rid of. I know that is just a broad statement and yes I have seen some sales that have % off the whole shop from some places, but I recall seeing a lot more of the half price decks and other things in previous years.
Also interesting to see some bigger places * seem like they have a whole lot of stock on sale just for this event, as in they got a lot of cheap dwindle product in just to fill out the sale hardware category. When I looked through, I thought "What a waste of time" but I am sure someone would have bought up on it (hopefully not regretted it later).
