Tactics is doing 20% off select skate hardgoods, really not a bad line up despite a few things I want missing.

Thanks good find.

Some Formula 4, some Powell G Slides (I've heard they're fun), some bones STF, some OJ Elite. Definitely worthwhile stuff.

If there's one thing I've learned from following this thread, it's that there's always another 20% off sale coming up somewhere.

With that sale, you can get a Tactics BBS deck gripped for $32. Insane deal if you are looking to stack some decks for later.

How do we know they're BBS and does it differ between graphics?

I still don't trust anything related to website decks. When I was young, I got a CCS deck to save some money and it was AWFUL. Then I got a Girl deck from them next time around only to realize it was a "CCS Exclusive" which meant it was just a CCS deck with a Girl logo on it.

Haven't gone for a shop/blank deck since. Still mad about that.

I have no evidence, but it's consensus on the Woodshop thread that Tactics uses BBS. It certainly could have changed, or different boards could be coming from different makers.

I skated one of their decks a few years ago and it skated as well or better than most of the standard high end decks I've owned in the past.

The 8.0 - 8.25 were steep with tapered kicks, the 8.38 is popsicle.

I had an 8.25" I bought from the physical Tactics shop a few years ago and I would say it was a fairly "standard" popsicle with a big nose. This was back in 2019, so more that enough time has passed for me to forget or for things to have changed.

Looks like I'm going to be pulling the trigger on this guy https://www.tactics.com/tactics/tko-9125-skateboard-deck/teal along with a chems skate tool to get that wb from 14.375 to 14.

Sale gear thread strikes again!

EDIT:Looks like for some reason they didn't include the 9" in their sale :(

Tactics are BBS boards.

The Tactics buyer is often on here as well, but he said Tactics definitely use BBS for their shop boards.

Usually once you are on a deal like that, you don't want to change any time soon, so unless someone says otherwise, it is BBS all the way for their boards.

Some shops are better at providing all relevant info and some others are, shall we say, less than helpful in their products.

It has been noted that CCS got boards or seemed to get boards from anywhere and everywhere, but what did CCS stand for - California Cheap Skates - so that figures right?

https://shop.ccs.com/pages/about-ccs

* Not hating on the CCS shop, as it used to be huge back in the day, then got so big, sold out, imploded and is now a totally different business.  I still have some items of CCS clothing tucked away.  They definitely had a knack for flannel shirts, pants / jeans and so much other stuff.  I never had any of their boards though.

The last CCS board I had was in 1992.  The Wrench model.

CCS and Tactics both moved into Portland and opened stores in direct competition to some very rad locally owned skate shops. Tactics actually moved into a space a few blocks from the oldest skate shop on the planet, Cal Skate.

I'm not saying don't shop at Tactics or CCS but your $s might be better off supporting some cooler, more tasteful and humbler skate shops that do a lot more for local scenes.

On the other hand, I have a friend who worked at a local Portland shop for minimum wage and no benefits. He left for CCS where they doubled his pay and he got health insurance.

That's a good point. Can't fault your friend for that. I'll still try to commit to Cal's Pharmacy, Cal Skate and Shrunken Head as much as possible though.

Speaking of CCS, they have some strangely low prices for some Ventures and Thunders. Check it out.

That looked like a good one!

Reminds me of the Quasi and similar graphics now, but I guess that simple wood grain half cover is always going to be nice.

Theories of Atlantis is doing a mystery box. $80 for a deck, grip, shirt and hat. I might pull the trigger on it because I usually like all their stuff.

Damn... I could get some Bones STF for about $20. Not bad at all. And a Hopps deck for about 40?

I'm really thinking about those two right now...

V5 is the shape!

Bones wheels tend to be super narrow so I either go with V4 or V6 typically. V5 definitely seems nice though if you're into skinny wheels. Basically a Conical Slim.

Do you have any experience with their 99a wheels? I LOVE their 103a for smooth ground because of how slidey they are. Are their 99a worth taking a chance on or no?
