I highly recommend swapping the axle nuts out right away. I’ve had multiple sets of AF1’s wrecked by their stupid rethreading nuts.

Just set up my first set of Aces a few weeks ago. Seeing all the talk about how shit the axle nuts are made me want to fuck around and find out, as it were - so I left them. Marked the thread and ~10 sessions so far no movement. Excited to see how they hold up.

yeah, i'm running two setups with 77 hollows and one with 60 hollows with the stock re-threader nuts, zero issues. i didn't immediately jump on the AF1 bandwagon but once hollows came out i grabbed all these, swapped wheels numerous times on all of them.

it's not that they unscrew themselves, they fuck up the axle a little bit every time you remove them. they have a built in rethreader which looks good on paper but in reality it just makes the axle thinner as time goes on and eventually it won't hold a nut properly anymore.

All of them double as re-threaders but I've never experienced them wearing down the axle. Either way, best replaced when the nylock is worn out.

Yep, the red/gold die is just a separate stand alone chaser.

I was riding AF-1s out of the skatepark one day when I ate shit rolling over a "self-tapping" AF-1 nut.

Just go to the hardware store and buy $2 worth of 5/16 Nyloc nuts, including some extra to keep in your bag should you encounter a friendly stranger whose hardware has failed them.
